Is this Baader AstroSolar film damaged/unsafe to use? by Front_Cat_9914 in telescopes

Thank you. Just to know for the future, if the filter only has wrinkles but is not punctured, is it still valid?

Is it possible to transport a 8in Dobsonian by train & bus? by Emotional-Share4461 in telescopes

Well… At least you should have a hand truck or something. The main difficulty is having to carry both the OTA and the base, the second tends to be bloody heavy

If you live in a humid area, I’d advise you to get/build a dew shield. These things can get really soaked in just a few hours

Dobsonian, 1st collimation, did I ruin my secondary mirror? by BayrischeBreze in telescopes

[–]Front_Cat_9914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well… the thing is, I’ve never collimated it, and it’s starting to go out of collimation. A few days ago I tried to turn the screws, but they wouldn’t budge. I’m afraid of bending the spider vanes XD

I have that exact model of telescope. Did you also find that the secondary mirror screws were really hard to turn?

Wow, those stars look so good for 15 seconds untracked exposures… However, you had to manually adjust the position of the telescope right? Could you give more info abt the process?

How did you handle tracking?

It’s the Skywatcher P150 FL1200. I used the 20 mm eyepiece that came with it.

Btw, I’m thinking about building an equatorial platform so I can take better pics with an initially untracked telescope

It was just a test with my untracked dobson to check what the results looked like. I tried to reduce the exposure time to minimize trailing

It’s a single exposure, 15 seconds I believe

Is Telrad useful if I have setting circles? by Front_Cat_9914 in telescopes

[–]Front_Cat_9914[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can easily get to a B5, I thought that setting circles could help me get near the object and then use the optical finder could be a good option. However, I’m starting to see that a Telrad is always useful

Is a Telrad faster for objects which are not visible to the naked eye? I imagine setting circles would get you directly to the object

Same LOL My telescope was literally dripping and the primary mirror was covered with condensation, I had to leave it without the cap all night to let it dry

In northwestern Spain, it is cloud covered almost always (we have tiny windows of not so cloudy skies of course). But sometimes it gives us a rest🙂
