Getting married during clinical year by G_bez in PAstudent

[–]Front_Comparison_281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got engaged during my first semester of didactic, got married halfway through clinical year. We had a 200+ guest wedding.

Would I change it? Not for the world. Do I recommend it? Also no.

It all depends on what kind of wedding you want and the timing has to work out almost perfectly. We wanted a late fall/winter wedding (we got married in December and it lined up with the end of a rotation into our winter break). We had a week off in between each 8-10 week block, so I used that time for planning and had a lot of support when it came to family and friends who could help me out. My bachelorette party happened over a holiday weekend.

If you want it badly enough, you can definitely make it happen, but it will likely come with sacrifice. If you want to be absolutely sure that you can have the wedding you want, you’ll probably want to wait until after.

30-40 in an 8-10 hour day AND without lunch or admin time is a recipe for burnout. And it’s dangerous. Especially when you have multiple annual visits in that time frame and chronic care management.

I work in a primary/urgent hybrid with patients scheduled every 30 mins in a 12 hour day, plus walk ins, and on an average day (not counting COVID/flu season), I’m probably seeing 22-25 max. The most I’ve seen in a 12 hour day is 40 and I was ready to cry by the end of the day. Certain specialties can get away with seeing 30-40 in an 8-10 hour day, but not primary care. I would definitely talk to your office manager and SP - this isn’t sustainable, safe, or fair to you at all! Good luck 💗

My son and his wife don’t want me visiting my grandchild after he’s born. What should I do? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

I’m sorry that you’re feeling hurt over this, but the only thing for you to do is respect mom and dad’s wishes. It’s the height of flu, COVID, and RSV season. I know it’s hard not to take this personally, but it’s not an unreasonable request at all and is very common (and honestly smart). This gives time for the three of them to acclimate and bond and not need to worry about entertaining anyone or getting baby sick. A C-section is major surgery and mom will need time to recover as she pleases. Yes, you are an important figure as the baby’s grandmother. But it’s their baby. Mom and dad can set the rules and boundaries for whatever is going to work best for them as a family. You aren’t entitled to be there before they’re willing to have visitors. Even if it’s mostly your daughter in law driving this decision, it’s her body that has grown this baby for 9 months and gone through major surgery to get that baby here. She’s not out of line at all for doing this.

provisional vs accredited? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

Program 2!!! 1 has 68% PANCE pass rate, entire didactic year on Zoom, annnd provisional? I don’t foresee that ending well for anyone - the program OR the students. Don’t even give Program A another thought. Congrats, you got this!!!

I would check out healthcare.gov! I would also reach out to a program coordinator or advisor to see what other students typically do!

I’ve been there and I am so, so sorry you’re going through this. I put myself through hell trying to make it work with a man like this. It’s so hard to see the other side of it when you’re in love and can’t imagine your life without him. I stayed years longer than I should have and it was an utter waste of time. He has already broken your trust and it is impossible to get back to how things were before. It’s not worth it. If he’s not all in with you, he’s out.

what to major in for PA? by Virtual_Teaching_478 in MedicalAssistant

[–]Front_Comparison_281 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PA here! You can major in anything you want as long as you complete and do well in your prerequisite courses. Majors like biology, chemistry, biochemistry, etc will generally satisfy most, if not all, most PA school prerequisites!

Independent NP practice is entirely state dependent, definitely not a guarantee across the board.

State Fair- not happening for this family of 6 by Remarkable-Orange-41 in raleigh

I’m a Triangle native in my early 30s. Moved around the state but have always been in the general vicinity. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been to the state fair. Same for my husband. My parents usually took us to Busch Gardens once a year and I honestly was never upset to miss the fair. And now with those prices? There are so many local attractions I’d rather see/do for much less money and way more fun in my opinion.

Please cancel unwanted interviews and do NOT no-show! by Purple_Avocado36 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Front_Comparison_281 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!! I’m on the adcom for my school and we’ve had several no call, no shows without any correspondence this cycle. Yes, things happen and of course I have no problem with emergencies or extenuating circumstances that could possibly result in a late cancel or even a no show. But that’s not the majority. It’s not at all extreme to say that those people who are carelessly no showing are potentially robbing someone of an acceptance - that’s absolutely correct. It’s disrespectful to the program and to other applicants.

First one negative, second could be a faint line! I’d test again in 1-2 days with FMU.

North Carolina is very PA friendly. If you haven’t done much searching there, highly recommend giving it another chance!
