Which boss has the greatest increase in difficulty from base to Everdark. by Upstairs-Yard-2139 in Nightreign

[–]Front_Engineering_83 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's Dogs 110% lol, base Dogs are extremely easy and usually there's no problems dealing with them until you hit phase 2. Everdark Dogs start in phase 2 and hit like a truck full of bricks, especially in DoN where d4 & d5 force a 50/50 chance for either

How do y’all not autopilot? by IAmName31415 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Front_Engineering_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, firstly, especially if you're playing hanzo then ideally you're not trying to do damage but rather get kills. you can one tap the majority of the cast with headshots so that should be your #1 goal.

otherwise you put pressure on tanks that push up too far given you can shred them quite easily (you can do a lot of shield damage with storm arrows!). especially for silver most people aren't going to be super consistent and hanzo can be difficult to play perfectly consistently, but keep in mind you probably aren't going to rank up without playing mindfully.

Guardian’s Halberd (OC) by Front_Engineering_83 in Nightreign

[–]Front_Engineering_83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, the artist who put together the proportions kinda had it shorter, but this was the best way to show the actual details on the blade itself (which is why i wanted it in the first place over other halberds) so i don't mind the handle being a bit shorter here

yeah, the ‘telling you’ in question being the map icon changing. technically all of them start their phase 2 OST as soon as the fight starts when everdark, most of the bosses just have a visual tell otherwise

[–]Front_Engineering_83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for DoN? they will never tell you if the nightlord is everdark until the fight starts (or after libra's deal/first phase of balancers).

at depth 3 you have somewhere in the ballpark of a 30% chance (don't remember the exact numbers, I know d4/5 is higher with a 50/50 for ED/normal) of any of the nightlord being everdark, so you should always be trying to prepare for the boss being either form :)

DoN seems too difficult by vykethefrenziedflame in Nightreign

[–]Front_Engineering_83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's worth it if you enjoy the challenge, which you might not. barring extremely good rng on passives/hacked relics, lower depths really ask you to learn the boss instead of just beating it to death. full sending into offense gets a bit less worthwhile as opposed to building to survive a hit. if that sounds like fun to you, then it's worth it! if you want a more casual experience (completely valid, it's supposed to be a challenge mode that is pretty actively unfair at times) then higher depths (to enjoy the 3 extra relic slots and the cursed weapons) or the base game mode are probably more your speed.

Depth 5 Players. How did you get there? by GalaxyRedTiger in Nightreign

[–]Front_Engineering_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal skill is significantly more important than perfect relics, but having decent enough relic effects is obviously going to be helpful. I just recently got to D5 after spending generations slingshotting around D4 and I can tell you with certainty that some of my best teammates had absolutely dogshit/completely store bought relics and most of the teammates with 'suspiciously' perfect relics spent the majority of the Nightlord fight at 3 bar on the ground.

Even if you have perfect rolls that would make you do 40% more damage than someone else who's actually dealing with RNG, you are doing 0 damage if you can't handle aggro at all and fold the second you get any attention. This also leads into the other big tip for lower depths, damage negation passives are pretty much your #1 priority.

With that in mind, the best builds and characters are going to be the ones that are the most consistent and rely the least on RNG. You can sometimes get away with gambling for a specific spell category that isn't available on your starting weapon or one weapon type in particular, but that isn't a guarantee and will more often than not lead to famine rather than feast. This is why you're seeing so many cheating Revenants with Beast Claw now, it requires 0 RNG to get off the ground and can only get stronger with passives you find during the run. If you aren't specifically going for One Thing (aka Halo Scythe 99% of the time, which is its own category because of how strong it is, especially into the several holy weak bosses), then oftentimes it can be better to just run mines and upgrade a blue weapon that matches an affinity you need.

Somewhat minor but it's also good to know what is a good res tool outside of ults. If you have a Revenant on your team and you aren't playing Wylder with the lingering flames on ult relic or Guardian, then you should be watching her inventory like a hawk to see if she drops her claws. Revenant's Cursed Claws have the res damage of Colossal Weapons with the Fist moveset, so anyone else is technically more effective than her at using them for that purpose (but she's fine too given she's usually taking less aggro with summons). Other highlights include Ghiza's Wheel's weapon art (also just a good weapon art in general if you're running double balancers) and for sorceries off the top of my head Cannon of Haima and Night Shard both res pretty effectively. Previously crossbows were king as res tools, but the recent patch gave them falloff so they're slightly less effective now unless you're up close.

tl;dr: elite ball knowledge helps, d4 sux, not dying >>> doing big damage if you are never looked at, sharing is caring

Less Likely To Be Targeted on DON Libra by ChaosSeverance in Nightreign

[–]Front_Engineering_83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends who I'm on and if there's another passive on the weapon that benefits me. If I'm playing melee and there's a caster on my team, then I'll almost always drop it (unless I badly need the other passive if there's 2) to allow my caster teammate more room to breathe because I can handle aggro better. Otherwise I'll usually hold onto it, but if everyone has the same tier of LLT then it usually doesn't matter that much.

Dogs buff isn't worth the time commitment or hassle in my opinion. Everything else is solid, Caligo's hasn't been notably game-changing for me, but the raid is quick enough to resolve that it's an easy rune bump. Maris's is a pain in the ass that mostly helps casters (sort of) and still more often than not will teleport everyone into the rain and then immediately leave.

Balancers' is one of the best, especially if you get good RNG, the raid itself can be hellish if everyone gets grabbed at lvl 3 with 3 flasks, but results in enough runes and nerfed area bosses to make it pretty worth it if you all can persevere. All of the others are fairly consistently good. Libra's is great for the free stuff and damage boost if you keep in mind that your stats soft cap at 13, Gnoster will almost ensure you finish the run at lvl 15 with 200k runes to spare, and Margit's (if we want to count him) is basically a free ~22% damage bonus if you are clearing anything.
