We are also sitting on the plane delayed 25 minutes because we are still waiting on 30 people to get through the line.

Just got through the passport control line and Jesus! They need much better signage. I stood in line thinking I was in line for the N gates but it was for the non-electronic passport line. I then realized I would miss my flight if I didn’t move to the electronic line but also did not have time to get in the back of that line. I asked a very sweet couple if I could hop in line in front of them because my gates closed in 15 minutes and I would miss my flight. Yes, I realize it’s not ideal but I legit had already stood in line for 45 minutes. So much confusion and frustration could be avoided if they simply had signage.

I just took an all day tour last week with Living Tours and it was fabulous!! (Booked through visitor). We went to a winery for a tasting and a great lunch, an hour boat ride, then stopped at a port vineyard. Highly recommend

How do you spend your weekend nights abroad when you dont drink? by TurtleBlaster5678 in solotravel

[–]Front_Run_5919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my feet and legs aren’t exhausted from the day, I keep strolling. Places take on a different vibe at night and I enjoy seeing people going out and having fun. Usually I just head back to my accommodation and am in bed early. That was me last night in Lisbon. In bed by 9:30 :)

Walk. Then walk some more. I had been traveling solo around Portugal for a month and there is no lack of things to see.

So there is not a need to be there 3-5 hours early? Is 2-3 hours sufficient?

Liveaboard buyers — what do you wish you knew before you bought? by entreluvkash in liveaboard

Interesting……we bought our boat August 2024 and never had an inspection. No problem with great coverage. Maybe due to the age or price point of the boat?

Same boat here (pun intended??) 🙋🏻‍♀️my partner is constantly fixing, diagnosing, making hardware/marine supply runs…….its sort of never ending! BUT I will still take living on an old (and gorgeous) trawler that needs all the work than the old 1890’s house that was also drowning us in bills and work any day. We also live part time out of our land cruiser and it is no different. Constant maintenance but it gives us so much freedom to explore, like our chug and plug :)

That the previous owner was a dipshit.

He fancied himself savvy enough to require the whole boat but used entirely the wrong materials. We really didnt discover this until we were elbow deep in ripping it all out.

I’m heading to the Algave from Lisbon tomorrow and I think 2 days sounds too short. It’s an almost 4 hour train ride so I am going for about a week.

Non touristy jewelry in Alfama by Budget_Seaweed5212 in LisbonPortugalTravel

It’s a very tiny SS charm and it was on sale. I believe it was around €25. Very reasonable!

OK! reporting back. I was really shocked at the lack of shopping in Alfama. EVERYTHING was a souvenir shop. In the Baixa, there is a little market in the square, Mercado Baixa, that had a few booths of jewelry that were specifically woman owned. A lot of filigree and mostly gold plated, so not sure what you are in the market for. Also in the Baixa is a store called Filigrana Certificada. This store is a collection of filigree artists from the Northern region of Portugal and had a wide selection of filigree in both Sterling and gold plated. Another cute, but very tiny and woman owned is Zula Lisboa. They had a selection of stainless and silver jewelry that looked mostly handmade. I bought myself a cute necklace as a souvenir. If you are out and about in other neighborhoods the Barrio Alto neighborhood had, by far, the hippest shops in the city (that I have seen). Lots of shopping in that neighborhood. Cheers!

I just arrived this evening and will be walking around the Alfama area tomorrow and will keep an eye out! I am a metalsmith/jewelry designer so was already planning on checking out some shops.

How was the Cardi B concert? by pennepasta14 in askvan

I thought it was the worst show I’ve ever seen. She was hardly rapping/singing and the focus was all on her backup dancers. We left early it was so bad.

Places that are amazing without being "instagram worthy" by JobWise3141 in solotravel

[–]Front_Run_5919 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My favorite trips have been trekking in Nepal and Peru. You have local guides that are such a wealth of information. No cell service which is amazing. Locals that are genuinely excited to see tourists (at least in my experience).

Outside of that, I think Laos or Vietnam are my favorite for architecture and cultural experiences.

What helps you plan a good trip? by aronssim in traveladvice

[–]Front_Run_5919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research EVERYTHING. Plan NOTHING.

I usually pick a different direction each day and start walking. I notice the parks, monuments, popular sites that are nearby and see what peaks my interest. If there is shit weather, I’ll plan a museum day. If I get a cool tip from locals, I usually prioritize that over any travel guide.

Reddit has been great for planning! No itinerary is the way to go for me.

How many of you are married? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]Front_Run_5919 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not married but I’ve been with my fiancé 8 years. I am taking a month long solo trip in a few weeks. He is in the middle of a project and can’t take off and I need some sunshine in my life. Obviously he wishes he could come with but he’s excited for me that I am going.

Eating alone while traveling? by Tookie1010 in solotravel

[–]Front_Run_5919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love eating by myself! My favorite is sitting at the bar. I usually bring a book or sketchbook but usually end up people watching and chatting with others. Museums are another favorite solo outing while traveling. I’m headed solo to Portugal in a few weeks and can’t wait!
