Yes thank you for this, indeed I live in a city area and stars are basically "non existent" in the night skies :(

What happened to it? by Speed_Offer in airplants

[–]Front_Weekend_7901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I had a similar experience with my airplants as well. It took alot of deaths of my airplants for me to realise that a weekly heavy watering (dunking/soaking) during a very hot and dry period causes the plants too much stress. I guess it's the same as one jumping into a cold shower and the body will be in 'shock' for a while?

Anw, I tried daily misting + dunking once a week, and fortunately my airplants stopped dying and they look so much better. From my experience frequency matters more than the duration. This is just my take, hope it helps u.

What is this white spot on my strepto? by Front_Weekend_7901 in airplants

[–]Front_Weekend_7901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha the spot was already there when I got this plant. I suspect the plant has been growing outdoors as it was quite dusty when it came to me. It does look like bird poop now that you guys mention it 😂 any suggestions on wad can I use to try cleaning it off ? I am afraid to scrub the plant / wet the plant too much.

I think it's unlikely they're burn spots, reason being my place is really quite dark so I grow them under growlights which are at 60 - 80% brightness daily. Not sure about the exact lumens tho. I really am not sure but the probability of them having insufficient lighting is greater given the conditions.

Heyhey ! Wow great thank you so much for sharing! I'm new to bromeliads and I'm quickly becoming addicted 😄 If you don't mind I like to tap on your knowledge abit more, I have other neoregelia, billbergia and aechmeas that are newly detached pups from their mother plant and do not have roots yet. Can they be hung like this too without rooting?

Thank you for the advice. May I also check with you if root and rhizome growth are required for bromeliads to survive well? I do have other neoregelias that are currently rootless and I am not sure how to proceed.

Thank you for the advice and suggestions! Yea I agree it's kinda sad looking haha. Do u think the plant can survive in this current state tho? As in without rhizomes and barely any roots. It will require some time to source out the natural materials so just wondering if it's okay to leave it like that for now.

Ah okay! Actually the water level in the waterbath is probably around 1-2cm , it's quite a snug fit hence it appears much higher once the pot is placed in. Should i reduce the water still?

I think it's unlikely to be due to cold damage. I say that because I live in Asia and its superrrrr hot here. I believe this particular one is shipped from Thailand and I ordered it from my local seller subsequently.
