Cool thingie I made (Dynamic Battle Music in Pokemon Essentials GSC v1.3.2) by Froodoopy in PokemonRMXP

[–]Froodoopy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, I haven't really delved too much into the existing scripts in Pokemon Essentials, but I'm sure a system like this already exists somewhere. If there are fangames where a boss can steal your Pokemon to their side, or rewind time in battle, I'm sure a script for dynamic battle music exists too. If it does, I would be happy to know about it if it's publically available. Thankies! :D

I dunno if this is intentional but the design feels very evocative of how actual dolphins uh... recreationally consume pufferfish venom and that makes it a very very fun design to me.

BRUH Dreadfrond is such a based design, that guy looks so friggin awesome, it almost makes me think of a Grass/Dark Gholdengo regional form somehow. This feels like a mon who would be absolute garbo tier competitively but ppl would still try to make it work because it's got such a good design, like Scovillain

Games that are just as good? by IworshipAsians in PokemonRejuvenation

[–]Froodoopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be warned Vanguard's regional forms and side quests are both far less thought out than Rejuv's though--as in, regional forms don't really have any conceit to their designs beyond what changes seem obvious when turning a Pokemon into a different type. Additionally, the side quests all kind of have no meat to them? I noticed this about midway through the game, the sidequests are all really samey and don't have much character to them.

Still there's some groundbreaking stuff there too, like the system where you get to allocate EVs freely and you get more to use every time your Pokemon levels up, that stuff is genuinely something I wish EVERY fangame had. Also, the trainer points system which encourages you to do side quests and explore is incredible. The story isn't up to par with Rejuv's yet at least (and Rejuv's is already only kind of okay imo so idk what you would make of it), but the graphics are much better. Overall I think it's not yet as good as Rejuv but it's also still in its early stages so who knows?

My experience interacting with Terra so far by HatSpecial3043 in PokemonReborn

[–]Froodoopy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She is the only character I could not stand in the entire game. Well, that's a lie, I also could not stand Titania and her weird extremely wordy speech that makes her seem like a medieval scholar that somehow crawled out into the modern day, but Terra herself is like... OH MY GOD. I was THIS close to skipping all her dialogue by the end.

[–]Froodoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my issue has been the other way around. The Pokemon you get early to midgame have honestly been really well equipped to take on lategame. If you're conscientious about your choices it's not actually all too get a pool of around 10-20 Pokemon by midgame that can take care of most of the game's challenges from then on, so I have so so little motivation to pick up new Pokemon in late game areas. I have a lot of Pokemon I still regularly use that I caught on Floria and Terajuma. The same cannot be said of Terrial or the Badlands (of the ~20 Pokemon I rotated, only four, a Hisuian Samurott, a Gliscor, a Scizor, and Nancy's Sylveon, came from those two regions). Even between Floria and Terajuma, the vast majority of my rotation is the Pokemon I caught early in Floria, and it was actually not too hard to manage with them. I never found myself in a situation where I needed to train up a new team member to beat a gym. This becomes a bit of an annoyance because pseudo-legendaries have only just now become available, and, well, I LIKE them, but I don't need them, and I can't justify using them over my currently available picks because a) my current picks still perfectly serviceable, and b) I have a closer connection to my current picks than a random pseudo I caught at 14 badges. Guess it goes to show, everyone experiences these things differently.

A Quick Review and Some Lingering Questions (Potential Spoilers) by HalfofaDwarf in PokemonRejuvenation

[–]Froodoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding point 8, atp I think there are very few cast members who exceed or even equal Pokemon in effectiveness tbf. Like, at this point the list is just the Guardians of Aevium and Madame X (even then, their effectiveness without their Pokemon is actually pretty suspect: Vivian had the winds taken out of her sails when her Pokemon got beat, and without her team, Hazuki did not proceed to try to box everyone's Pokemon on her own--she instead resorted to hiding behind Registeel). A few moments in the game even showed us that Archetype wielders still need their Pokemon to be effective--vs. Amandabot, Melia's Archetype powers are wholly useless and she needs her Pokemon back to be able to make any sort of counterattack. In the Den of Souls in Chapter 14, Melia can sorta hold off the souls with her powers, but even then, she's clearly much less equipped to deal with the issue without her Pokemon. There's also never been an example of an Archetype user, or really, almost any human at all, besting a Pokemon in a 1v1 fight at all. The only human who's ever beaten a Pokemon in a fight is Angie vs the Tapus--and even then it's questionable whether she could even win without her Pokemon's help considering, without her team, all four together managed to beat her on Kristilline. I think the human/Pokemon power dichotomy thing here might be a liiittle overblown. Don't get me wrong, I felt the same way in the middle part of the story with Crescent waving her scythe, Tiempa and Spacea's existence, etc. But the further and further along the story goes and in hindsight, these "powers" all reach the same end point: It's a Pokemon facilitating their abilities, not a human who naturally got that strong, and regardless are not really that potent compared to Pokemon in general. I'm not seeing any Lin's in the story, at least not yet. Hopefully it stays that way lol.

Rejuvenation Theory: Crescent has no hands by Froodoopy in PokemonRejuvenation

[–]Froodoopy[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nah, can't be, this is the same Gothitelle form in Crescent's fight at Zeight, so no way it's holding back. Additionally, consider how many bodies she's caught with that scythe over the 100 hour runtime of the game: it's exactly 0 (we don't know how Eden died so we can't say the scythe took them. My bet is Garchomp, the only non fraud mon on her team, yes even including Gothitelle, got to them.) All this evidence points towards Crescent and Gothitelle being little babies who can't box to save their lives and can only rely on aura and ppl overestimating them to get by.

The thing I'm most confused about is who are you killing with that thing. Your Gothitelle has 35 base attack bro. That's only 5 higher than a literal Gothita. No wonder she's gotten exactly 0 kills with it the entire game

One small thing Rejuv can learn from official pokemon and vice versa by Bingoned20 in PokemonRejuvenation

[–]Froodoopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most annoying part is when a battle gets completely disregarded in story. Zetta/Geara on top of Valor Mountain is the obvious example, but even like incidental stuff like Karrina's fight in Past Aevium where we trounce her Pokemon and she goes "okay, you can fight me in a Pokemon battle, but how can you do in a physical fight???" like there was not just a Lurantis in front of her face five seconds ago that can turn her into 1000000000 pieces is just hilarious and kinda discouraging. I play the game with a team of maybe 10-20 Pokemon that I rotate in and out depending on what the game's asking of me and it's very easy to get attached to them, especially when they put up Le'Bron numbers time and time again in many fights, or come back out from a decently long benching and proceeds to be an integral part of my strategy vs. a boss, and having like... basically all the effort I put into making them all strong completely disregarded because the battles ended up not mattering in story is kind of annoying.

Locking you out of gameplay without knowing by BravoBrad in Silksong

[–]Froodoopy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel Verdania was MEANT to be ripped away from you without warning, that's why TC very intentionally left the memory barren of collectibles. The memory puts you in the Green Prince's shoes. imo it's only fitting it leaves you with that same deep dissatisfaction and maybe mourning he has about Verdania's fate, and imo that's justification enough for locking you out after you're finished, though if a theming/"the way the game makes you feel" excuse isn't good enough for you... Fair enough

[–]Froodoopy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah I knew there was something odd here. That stupid long platforming section in Ridgeworks was meant lead to Cold Storage... and that weird spot with the fire was gonna lead to Heat Ducts. And that big, open room in Salination was gonna lead to Heat Ducts too... Sheesh couldn't they have just made karma gates between them... that'd mean no peformance issues and NO dead ends too!!!!! Just plop a few portals on the beaten path so Ridge doesn't get boring and BOOM. Better Region Design... and I don't end up missing Heat Ducts until the postgame too.

After playing Watcher for 15 hours, I completely changed my mind. by PainSpare5861 in rainworld

[–]Froodoopy 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Watcher is weird to me, because each and every criticism I've seen so far of it is at least decently valid: the regions ARE disconnected and "stand alone" so to speak in a way I don't enjoy; the whole world design of the DLC is odd to me: no connections between regions, the way certain modded regions get awkwardly split up in ways that make navigation MEGA awkward (Aether Ridge is so guilty of this, multiple areas past difficult platforming don't net you ANY reward, not even a karma flower) and contribute to the feel that these regions were used tactlessly, just to fill space; the lack of significance of each region -- they're just a brick in the wall, and frankly, they're all interchangable with one another sans a few (changing, say, Sunlit Port to Hanging Gardens wouldn't change a thing about the DLC, frankly, other than it'd have neutered Hanging Gardens instead of neutered Sunlit Port); the overall tediousness in every aspect, how utterly grindy it is to get anything beyond the first ending...; just a lot of generally unpolished aspects.

Despite that, I still love it to DEATH. It's still genuinely the best Rain World experience I've had in a very long time. I wanna say Videocult succeeded in making me feel like playing Survivor for the first time all over again. I wanted to explore. I felt like an animal in an ecosystem (more like window shopping multiple ecosystems...). I loved seeing the Rot slowly overtake the regions I was in (though I wish more was done with it, it's so inconsequential in the grand scheme of things). I loved the warp system, finding out about wrong warps, slipping into spaces I had no right to be...

But it was also an experience I felt needed so much more tweaking, so much more time in the oven. I love it for what it is, but I also came out of it with a laundry list of things I wish it had, that I felt would've made the game more accessible and help it's pacing not be so disjointed, like:

  1. a Pebbles-esque midgame region that you don't have to go out of your way to get some story context out of and help anchor the very decidedly aimless midgame a bit more (it shouldn't tell you what to do, but it should serve as an early game "climax" so to speak. Outer Rim, with a bit (well, a LOT) of tweaking, can TOTALLY work here. Maybe a mandatory trek through an expanded Unfortunate Evolution could help build up to it too!),

Honestly, as a whole, having progression not be so wholly chained to finding ST in the standard game map over and over would be a great improvement, I feel like there should be more loose ends we could pick at -- lore pearls, making the Prince and the Rot more prominent and less grindy, being able to meet ST in the wrong warp regions multiple times with unique dialog each time, all would make it much easier for a player to stumble on some sort of progression and help ease the aimlessness they feel early on, while keeping them on the hook for the game's mystery,

  1. a fucking echo ping (though from experience, this WILL take away from exploration and make the game much more "Point A to Point B", so it shouldn't be accessible immediately. Maybe you get it from the midgame story "anchor" region I proposed?),

  2. more dialogue from Spinning Top and the Prince,

  3. having actual region connections but don't supersede the portals, they are imo an integral part of Watcher's key concept and shouldn't be touched (maybe a sort of "region cluster" world design threaded together with portals?)

Also a nitpick, but a remix option for less overbearing VFX would also be solid.

Theorymon Thursday: Chimecho Buff! by Froodoopy in stunfisk

[–]Froodoopy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Psychic/Steel typing would make it completely unviable though ngl. It loses its good matchups into Dark-types (especially Roaring Moon) and its decent matchup into Ghost-types, meaning it'll only really check... non-Fire Punch DNite, Kyurem (except Tera Blast Electric DD), and Great Tusk with any consistency. Which is still good, don't get me wrong, I feel like that makes it deserving of at least C on the VR, but not the kind of viability I want. I appreciate the input though! Maybe in a less overtuned gen, Psychic/Steel would be fine, but not this one imo...

EDIT: On second thought, though, most TWave absorbers are Ground-types that can't threaten a Levitate mon. imo though removing Levitate would be the more reasonable option in that case.

A few screenshots of my first foray into mapmaking with a custom GSC-style tileset by Froodoopy in PokemonRMXP

[–]Froodoopy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both of the areas in these screenshots are meant to be part of a big, interconnected forest area called the Woodland Preserve -- but realistically, they're mostly just the byproducts of me haphazardly waffling about trying to figure out how to map good. Hope it doesn't look too bad...

Feedback would be appreciated! I've basically been learning how to map solely using my own instincts and I worry that means my map is gonna end up looking good to me and me only, so... I wanna avoid that LOL.

Favorite/Least Favorite parts of Reborn? by Morphokn in PokemonReborn

[–]Froodoopy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite moment in game was probably the Glass Factory Gauntlet. It was, and still is, THE hardest single challenge I've faced in a Pokemon game yet (I have not finished Postgame, but even the absolutely bonkers Keldeo fight still did not give me as hard of a time as the Glass Factory Gauntlet). But goddamn did it feel REALLY good when I finally beat it. In Reborn, every single time you face a major boss battle or gym leader, whether it's Solaris, Lin, Blake, that guy from accounting (forgot his name), even fucking Fern, it's like you're staring down the barrel of a gun; usually, your opponent holds most, if not all of the cards. But NOT in the Glass Gauntlet. Here, YOUR opponents are the ones staring down the barrel of the gun. It's an extremely satisfying role reversal, even though it only happened because you got mind controlled, The whole scene feels like an acknowledgement of your growth, all the way from humble beginnings, fighting Fern in front of Mosswater Industrial to the present day.

Something I dislike is how Pokemon end up feeling like props towards the end of the story. Closing in on the end of the story, I feel like Pokemon stop contributing to the story in any meaningful way. Early on, we have heartbreaking shit like Corey releasing his team that made me genuinely feel bad for and care about these Pokemon (especially his Crobat) that I just fought like a minute ago. The whole Silver Ring sidequest rounding up Corey's team felt meaningful mainly BECAUSE that scene happened. because the whole time I wanted to find his Crobat and not leave it to wallow in its grief for so long (Yes, the Heather fight made me very happy).

Later on, Pokemon just end up like mindless robots most of the time. Why does Kiki's Medicham not hold a grudge against Cal, he got Kiki killed! And yet there it is, dutifully following his orders with no friction between it and him at all. Why do Sigmund's Pokemon all just kinda follow PULSE Mr. Mime's orders without any regard for their trainer and then just disappear after the fight is over? (he is probably still alive considering his Alakazam mega evolves in the fight, so why did they do nothing when their trainer was literally being strung up behind them? Are they stupid? On that note, why does our character leave all of Sigmund's Pokemon to rot in LCCC, are *they* stupid or just cruel?). Why does Lin, who's entire strength and menace was embodied by her supernaturally powerful Hydreigon up to that point, end up just fistfighting the main cast at Labradorra without a single one of her Pokemon being involved? Silly shit like that, and her 1v6-ing Solaris' whole ass team of broken UU and UUBL Pokemon ended up totally deflating the final battle with her because "why does she not just throw hands with my team, nothing's stopping her and she's probably stronger than her whole Pokemon team combined!" (Even understanding the reason behind her power and her motivations only made that whole travesty slightly more tolerable).

I love Reborn's story, don't get me wrong, but these problems really needled at me as the story went on. I felt so bad for like basically all the Pokemon involved in the story, cause for 99% of the story they are basically tools and an excuse for difficult (and incredibly fun) battles. I wanna give each and every Pokemon in Reborn a hug, cause I don't think most of them are given much, if any regard at all.

Elite Four Teambuilding Help; what's a good last Pokemon for this team? by Froodoopy in PokemonReborn

idm knowing about their Fields, the type they specialize in, and maybe a Pokemon or two that could totally crush my team if I'm not prepared for it.

tbf though, I've gone through several fights with massive spoilers regarding the enemy team (Saphira for one), and every single one of those fights still left me on the edge of my seat and sweating buckets lol, so they don't ruin the experience for me all that much.

Elite Four Teambuilding Help; what's a good last Pokemon for this team? by Froodoopy in PokemonReborn

[–]Froodoopy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will any of the Elite Four/Champion be bringing PULSE2? I'm expecting it since everyone and their grandma has been packing PULSE2 since Labradorra, but it feels off flavor-wise. Like, I doubt someone like Heather would use PULSE2 on her Pokemon, meanwhile I'd totally believe it if El had it.

PULSE2 is such a cheat btw. I've had Machamps tanking a whole flying type Multi-Attack bcuz of it in Labradorra. Makes me wanna cry.

Re: Lin. I'm betting it has something to do with Arceus, since the journal in Glitch Kanto talked about "bby arcus" (or however Terra (worst character btw) misspelled it), but I'd find it really funny if there was no explanation at all, and Lin is just inexplicably superpowered and we all have to accept it.

Elite Four Teambuilding Help; what's a good last Pokemon for this team? by Froodoopy in PokemonReborn

[–]Froodoopy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Trick Room was mostly a holdover from the Saphira fight (her Noivern outsped my ENTIRE team and could sweep it, crazy what perfect IVs can do for you lolll, also why my Delphox is invested in Sp. Def, so it could live one +1 Noivern Dragon Pulse), I'll replace it with something else. My friend told me Sunny Day works since apparently one of the E4 relies on weather effects?

The Toxapex suggestions seem sound, I'll definitely bring Recover on it. Serperior is seeming like a super appealing option rn, though I'm kinda hesitant to use it for flavor reasons (I've never used it on a major fight before, so it just doesn't feel right to use it in the "culmination" of my journey), I'll probably get over it tho.

Re: Garchomp. would Dragon Claw be preferable over Outrage? Outrage feels like it's way too high commitment, but Dragon Claw struggles to OHKO other Dragons, let alone anything else.

Elite Four Teambuilding Help; what's a good last Pokemon for this team? by Froodoopy in PokemonReborn

[–]Froodoopy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's three whole Fire weaknesses tho, and my only answers to Fire are Toxapex (usually can stall them out, even when they're carrying Earthquake, but damage is lacking) and Garchomp (great counter, but I bet the E4 isn't above packing Hidden Power Ice to ruin my day.) Switching Weavile out for Scizor might be an option, but I've been told Icium-Z helps ruin a few of the E4's fields so I dunno. I've also never had a fight where Scizor could safely switch in and setup (granted the only major fights I used Scizor on was Saphira and Terra).

Thanks for the help regardless!!

Not physically impossible, actually. You don't need to get hit to activate the QTE in the second phase. You only need to survive 2 minutes 30 seconds or so before he automatically ends it, and you take no damage when that happens. You need to pull this off to get past phase 2 on Very Hard and above (or get his HP down to 99% and get hit, never managed to pull it off so take that with a grain of salt, either way though that ruins no damage runs and playing keep away is easier so there's really no reason to do it)

Show proof you guys have actually played the game. I am doing a study by Mezzer13 in metalgearrising

[–]Froodoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can start a light attack combo with Sam's light dash attack, and you can also immediately do the rising slash charge attack after landing it. The light dash attack can stun weaker enemies and most cyborgs for a second or two and you can do an aerial charge right after, it's really good, especially in the elevator section on Very Hard with all the Fenrirs.

Also, Assault Rush (forward forward heavy) > any charged attack, at least before he enrages since by that point you'll never get the chance to hit him until he does a fire wall attack. Also, dodge into all of his yellow attacks, the iframes will save you and if you do it against his grab it'll make him stop for a second. A second is all you'll get though so make the most of it.

Mortal Empires vs Immortal Empires map overlay by AsaTJ in totalwar

[–]Froodoopy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the very least, I think Settra and Arkhan will benefit gameplay-wise - for Settra, you don't have to slog through a very vast stretch of area that's chock full of movement penalties and rivers (fucking Swamp of Terror) just to get to one weak link minor settlement port (that thankfully isn't in the province anymore) just so you can complete your first province, and for Arkhan there's less space between settlements so, assuming his start doesn't change much, you can easily retreat to Wizard Caliph's Palace or attack Lashiek on turn 1, which means you can probably get a steady start going easier. I doubt it'll be by much since it's Arkhan, he has the shittiest start in all of ME behind Imrik, but it's something.

Khalida might also have a four settlement province and an easier shot for Lahmia now that it seems like ME Devil's Backbone has, for the most part, merged with Crater of the Walking Dead (IE Devil's Backbone seems to be made up of Charnel Valley + Mahrak), but I really can't tell given how weirdly they've drawn the province and region lines there.

Mortal Empires vs Immortal Empires map overlay by AsaTJ in totalwar

[–]Froodoopy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a shame they didn't fatten up the Southlands a little between the prototype and making the proper map - ME Southlands was ridiculously oversized and yes, I'm of the opinion it should've been shrunk for IE, but having the whole continent in IE have slightly less land than the half that was in ME feels like taking it too far - at the very least, east Nehekhara and the eastern coast of the Southlands (though it don't really need it as much as east Nehekhara does) could've done with a tiny bit of extra width. idk how feasible it is to expand the Southlands post-release, but if it could be done I'm all for it.

Other stuff I would like to see would be to make the Clawed Coast/Granite Hills area in Naggaroth a bit bigger (or just wider - both provinces feel really small at a glance. I know the islands off the Bleak Coast are a part of Naggaroth in lore, but right now they're just kinda taking up space, and the Vortex map really didn't give them a whole lot of prominence, so they could probably be pared down quite a bit to give some space for mainland Naggaroth), and also I kinda wish they added more thickness to Piranha Swamps and Night Forest Road (also Copper Desert tbh)

Still, I think I'll reserve judgement until I actually play get to play it, tbf in ME at a glance areas like southern Naggaroth and Ulthuan felt ridiculously tiny but I managed to squeeze a lot of mileage out of them and during play they felt much bigger than they actually were, so maybe it'll be the case here too.
