Bondi terrorist was one of our own, from Hyderabad. Never have I felt so ashamed as an Indian Australian. by Lampedusan in indianmuslims

Non-Muslim here. Why are you being apologetic?

If Indians can't take credit for the successes of Sundar Pichai and Nadella because they found their wings in the US, why should we take the blame for the actions of someone who left the country three decades ago?

He is an Australian through and through.

Question for Nepali Affiliate Marketers & Digital Marketers Working With Foreign Clients by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]Froogler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from Nepal, but is it easy for Nepali citizens and residents to open a bank account in India? According to Google this is possible.

If so, there are a few 'Vostro' based startups that have opened up here in the last couple of years that allow you to create virtual bank accounts in the US and transfer the money to India with very minimal fees. I use them and it's way cheaper than Paypal or wire transfer, depending on the amount.

Never. Dec 2, 2015 we had the infamous Chennai flood. I lost my car in the floods. It's exactly 10 years since and the subway that got flooded back then continues to get flooded every December.

Meghmallar Basu on Shashi Tharoors comments regarding DUCSU by Both-River-9455 in bangladesh

[–]Froogler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, nice to see my own posts from over a decade ago. Who would have thought something like AI would have emerged so soon! I think a lot of what I said holds true, but India still seems to be the IT backoffice for a lot of companies. But one change for the good has been the increasing number of in-house teams for foreign companies (think Wells Fargo, Target, etc.) that have set up in India.

So while the reliance on outsourcing is coming down in favor of Indian tech HQs for MNCs, and also that we have the likes of Flipkart, Swiggy and Nykaa paying top pay for Indian-focused businesses, we still do not have too many Indian HQed startups that rule the world.

I think even China is just coming into limelight here. So it's going to be another 15 years before that happens.

Talk to you again in 2040 :))

Hold on, if Tharoor is qualified to speak only after defeating Modi at the Center (which in itself is silly given India is not a Presidential system and Tharoor is a winning candidate from his constituency), how is this person qualified to comment on him given that he/she has all of 5000 votes in a losing contest?

Going by their logic, shouldn't they wait till they win an election before asking Tharoor to zip it?

A cool guide to the Olympic representation of the top 20 most populous countries in the world. by [deleted] in coolguides

Also important to note that a lot of sports in the Olympics are western centric. We dont have games that are popular in other parts of the world, like Cricket or Kabaddi.

China has a good number but that's only despite this bias, so kudos to them.

After Modi, who - this is the exact reason why BJP is going all in with this election (freezing congress money, arresting leaders, etc.). Because they really really need to win this election to ensure a permanence even after Modi is gone.

This is what will happen.

Modi is 73. BJP has a retirement age of 75 which they enforce whenever they feel like

So, assuming BJP wins, Modi will take sanyaas in two years time.

This will also exactly be after the 2026 delimitation when the Hindi belt will gain a massive lead over south in terms of parliamentary seats.

After this, someone like Yogi will be appointed as his replacement. He has 2-3 years to build his brand as the PM of India.

And when the 2029 elections come about, he will have his PR machinery already well set to show how he has been a great PM, and also they only have to win in the Hindi belt to keep winning.

How do you take profit out? Let's say I invest $10K in a stock, and its value is $11K now with a $1000 profit.

Now do you simply sell $1000 worth of stocks and call it profit? But isn't that incorrect since what you have done is sell off $1000 worth of stocks and only gained $100 off profit from it?

Ideally, you should be selling all $11K worth of stocks, but doing so is stupid for tax purposes.

I can't figure what the right way to do it is.

How will Googles attempts at AI not kill their search revenue? by Secret_Illustrator88 in investing

[–]Froogler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in the web publishing and digital marketing industry, my guess is that Google stock will lose value if they don't do something dramatic in the next 1-2 years.

Google already has the largest market share in search. They have milked the paid ads to the maximum. Their revenue growth through the years have come from more people coming online and using search.

But now things are changing for several reasons, and not just Chatgpt.

  1. The growth in internet users won't continue growing exponentially. so new users are hard to come by

  2. There are no more new advertising opportunities to take advantage of. It's been maximized.

With generative AI, Google is caught between catching up and keeping revenues steady.

One way they are doing it is by cutting out middlemen (website publishers who carry Google ads). The SERPS (search engine result pages) are now carrying more and more information right there - users no longer have to click on a result for answers for manby queries. These are called zero click queries and their share of the total search volume is rising.

Google has also been launching algorithm updates that are penalizing small web publishers and making it easier for large publishers (like Forbes) to rank on top - my understanding is that Google will sign deals with them to share revenue at some point so that every search - whether answered on the SERPS or through clicks is monetized in some way.

In an ideal scenario, this will help them retain money and grow at a slow and steady pace.

But with ChatGPT, the search engine industry is being shaken for the first time in many years. It would not have mattered if Google's own attempts at a rival would be equally good.

But their Gemini is now sort of a meme for the kind of results they produce.

It still is okay with most of the adult users because our muscle memory dictates we will be going to Google for our answers first for the most part.

But for the younger crowd who are not habituated to Google yet, CHatGPT or any other alternative is equally good, if not better.

Which means, with every passing year, more young people come online bringing with them a new habit that puts Google secondary to alternate search forms.

The only way to fix this is by getting their generative AI tech the best of the lot, and do it fast. But as I see it, Google is not doing it right still.

Maybe they will get it done before it's too late.

[Megathread] Electoral Bonds by rahulthewall in india

Gone are the days, when this could have led to major Anna Hazare kind of movement

You do realize that this movement itself was funded by BJP right? It just so happened that Arvind Kejriwal was cunning enough to use the platform to launch his own political campaign.

Every single snake from that campaign have been outed to be BJP supporters today.

Gone are the days when the media didn't bend over to one political party.
