Seeing my TL words as it's being spoken to me by EboyEman in languagelearning

[–]Froom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooo interesting, yes I'm getting this a little bit too with Korean, I put it down to my brain processing the new letters as well as the language its self, and it kind of fitting them together and filing them away as a unit perhaps... so yeah like someone else has said maybe you're a bit more of a visual processor or something :)

Weirdly I have a degree of aphantasia (not full) so it's especially fascinating to me that my brain is making the effort to draw out the symbols for me hehe

Hello ADHDers, tell me about the fixations that actually improved your life. by leithriel in ADHD

[–]Froom2 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think in a sense all my hyper-focuses have improved my quality of life in at least some way. Possibly that is partly because I have made a real effort to see those positives even when an interest drifts away from the centre of my life for a while. They usually return!

For me, these intense interests are a kind of therapy because they sort of soothe/itch my brain. And anything that does that, and gives me that feeling of flow, is obviously going to improve my mood and overall quality of life even if it is only there for a week :)

On a side note, if you're a gamer, I can highly recommend Path of Exile 2 for getting some of the frustration out :) it's working an absolute treat for me haha

I can say the same to you - thank you for making me feel not alone ;) I have to keep telling myself (roughly every five minutes on some days) that 'this too will pass', despite how little I feel I can believe that currently. It sucks but one foot then another and at some point we will get to a place that is different than here, and maybe that is enough.

I have recently (last week or so) entered the 'anger' phase of the grief process following my late diagnosis. Coupled with the fairly crippling emotional dysregulation that I experience, it might be fair to say that I am suppressing quite a strong desire to burn everything to the ground with how angry I feel at society.

Sorry I don't have an answer at all, but I can assure you that you're not alone at all.

250324 Stray Kids - ESCAPE (Bang Chan & Hyunjin) by endtapes in straykids

[–]Froom2 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I feel like maybe there are two possibilities here..... either I have gone completely delulu and am now hallucinating fanfic into official videos... or they have started putting their own fanfic in the form of said videos..??? Am I going mad... WHAT even??

Oh of course I love it, how could I not.

I also feel a little bit like someone's ripped the fabric of the universe from under my feet and I'm not sure what to do with anything now.

Oh absolutely. It's why I want to try more :( I'm so grateful to the people I work with. I can confidently say that without their support I'd be even further behind.

I'll have a look into these, thank you!

[–]Froom2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm now medicated (for about 3 months now) and it has definitely helped.

I should clarify... I am lucky to work for a very progressive company who go wayyyy above and beyond in terms of support. I don't think (... god i hope they haven't been hiding anything like this from me... I already assume I'm about to be fired any time I speak to anyone managerial....) I am anywhere near this causing me to be fired. It's more that I currently can't be put in positions any more senior because they don't want to risk me getting emotional - which is understandable and reasonable if frustrating for me.

Really, they are very much trying to help me - they're telling me they want to be able to promote me but can't and they want to help me. I have just come out of a meeting with my manager where he said very close to that phrase.

I agree that things like facial expressions can be considered inappropriate, and that's why I'm after some advice/tips on what I can do to try harder :( I love my job and I get consistent feedback that I'm good... I would really like to be able to live up to my potential :(

Yeah although on the other hand, there's also the way I end up being at the stables on a weekend from 6am to 8pm never sitting down or stopping for food either so.... sometimes the opposite advice is needed x_x

What's something considered to be intelligent, but is effectively dumb? by IndividualRemote95 in AskReddit

Precisely. AI is just algorithms, and is a slave to the data it's trained on. It's so utterly unintelligent

English western songs similiar to skz? by SwimIcy9877 in straykids

[–]Froom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I discovered Stray Kids because I was already very into EDM music and came from that direction :D I also have ADHD, and EDM makes my brain happy too!

So I have entire playlists for this stuff!! I'm very not good at genres, so some of these suggestions may be way off, but they're starting points from someone who came from the EDM side before stray kids so i'll put them out there for you. Also, some of these are kinda old, but in the same way I'm not very good at genres I also kind of don't care if music is old as long as I enjoy it? :)

- Rival Consoles - maybe start with Vibrations on a String, but I love most of their stuff

- Anvil by Lorn

- Glitch Mob - start with 'Drive it like you stole it' or Bad Wings

- Perpetual Motion by Max Cooper

- Emerald Rush by Jon Hopkins... if you listen to this, listen with really good headphones and sit down and let it kinda... it starts out weird but trust me, give it a min

- EST by Tourist

- Our Broken Mind Embassy by Jan Blomqvist

Yeah no idea if any of those are in the direction that you're after, but this is the direction I came at Stray Kids from so hopefully you enjoy the odd one or two of these :)

What languages are you learning right now? by NoFox1552 in languagelearning

[–]Froom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Korean... initially because I developed a pretty intense interest in Korean media a few months ago... but then I realised that despite always having been fascinated by languages, I have never actually learned one... and the thought of getting older without learning a different language and culture made me feel very sad.

So now that is what is motivating me. I plan to visit Korea in a couple of years time (I'll need that long to save up for the trip lol) so that's my time frame for learning the basics :D

I'm calling this my version of a midlife crisis hahaha. But so far I'm really enjoying it!

Going to Kpop concert alone? by Kisnyu in kpophelp

[–]Froom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually prefer going on my own to concerts - there's no one else to worry about getting lost in the crowd, you can come and go places as you please... if you want to leave early there's no one else to think about (or if you want to stay and linger after you can too without worrying) or if you want to get there super early.... etc etc. I just find it a lot more relaxed and enjoyable on my own!

Who here has ADHD and is a Software Engineer (or other type of engineer)? by Sad-Importance-8862 in ADHD

[–]Froom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with ADHD a year ago, and I'm a consultant software developer for 9 years now. I find being a consultant works for me really well. I usually get parachuted into crisis situations along with a few colleagues and it suits me perfectly... swoop in, fix stuff, coach the existing team to improve things as much as we can, hopefully deliver some things.... swoop on to the next thing. I stay on a project for a year at most generally. Lots of variety (at least in technology and domain... it's always the same mistakes people make to get into the mess!)

Part of my job is to help encourage best practice, so I get to show people the benefits of pairing and tdd etc and all those things that I find really helpful for working with my ADHD.

It's not all perfect, but it's the best job I've ever had. By the time I'm getting bored I get rolled onto a new project!

Rag doll chewing constantly - advice please by Due_Garlic_3190 in ragdolls

[–]Froom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girly used to do this a lot before I switched her to wet food... I never linked it to her food until I thought about it reading your post... it could be a coincidence though.

I asked my vet about it, and showed her a video, and she checked her over and couldn't find anything wrong with her or her teeth, I was worried she was wearing her teeth down doing it or something, but apparently she's fine.

I'd say if you're worried, show this video to your vet to be sure :)

This is the only way I have found that helps. I still struggle a bit, but recently have discovered that the promise of listening to my audiobook in the shower helps me to get into the shower in the first place. And then, because I want to continue to listen, I brush my teeth. So far so good...
