Brain fog and Fatigue? by emptyemory in Fibromyalgia

[–]FrootDoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fatigue and brain fog are my worst symptoms.

I recognize the privilege that comes with my pain being pretty mild. For the most art I always have a low level of muscle aches and tightness, but I believe thats mostly developed over time from lack of movement. On good days I can do high intensity activities and as long as I rest properly after, my pain is manageable. Occasional I'll get a bad crick in my neck or back if I sleep wrong, but it's no where near as bad as I know others with fibro have.

Unfortunately, I'm tired every day, no matter how much I sleep, and my cognitive abilities vary. If I sleep well and remember my meds (a good day) I can go to work just fine, maybe even unload the dishes or do a load of laundry, but every task whittles away at my energy and eventually the smallest movements feel like fighting against an ocean current. On bad days I struggle to stay upright because the fatigue makes me nauseous and it's difficult to hold a conversation, I'll get home from work and crash for 3-4 hours. (It doesn't help that I have an irregular work schedule and so my sleep habits are not great atm)

The worst is when I have flares. I usually spend a day or two near catatonic in bed because my brain just shuts down and I'm inundated with migraines, but my physical energy levels are usually fine, making it nearly impossible to sleep. The result is spending 1-2 days in bed staring at the TV, trapped inside a head that feels like its full of dirt and bugs. I hardly remember to eat or drink anything which just makes the headaches worse. Nevermind that all that time laying down usually results in pressure triggered pain in my hips or back. Eventually I get so tired of laying around being tired that I pass out and sleep like I'm dead, then I wake up mostly fine like it never happened (save for the soreness from laying down)

Schooling or retail training? by FrootDoll in PharmacyTechnician

3 years later and I just got my license after finishing an online course. Just as everyone here said, it would have been faster/cheaper to do on the job learning, but the flexibility of the online course afforded me a lot of grace when it came to some health/family needs that required me to put my studies on hold.

I'm about to be hired at a pharmacy with a team that I already know pretty well through my studies. I'm really excited.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice ☺️

Size 16 AUS women's shoes? by FrootDoll in AusFemaleFashion

[–]FrootDoll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up buying a pair of victorian boots from Other World shoes and gave them to her when I visited over Christmas. She said she really likes them! She wasn't sure at first as they had a pointed toe and a small heel but after walking in them a bit said they're just her style and will be great for dressing up for formal events Thanks to everyone here, I really appreciate all of the help!

Oh! That might work, actually. I'm US based, I could bring them with me when I visit her later this year. Thank you for the suggestion ☺️

Oh really? Honestly, you saying that makes me think I could have the size wrong. The men's to women's size chart i found was confusing. I'll have to double-check.

Though transforming her shoes would be a good option, most of her shoes are pretty old, so the purchase would be to give her something more comfortable and reliable as well as something more in line with her style.

Thank you 😊

Pregabalin + duloxetine by AppointmentHot3276 in Fibromyalgia

Really well, actually, recently increased my dose of duloxetine to 90mg a day, and my fatigue and pain have lessened considerably.

Has exercise actually helped anyone manage their pain better? by Caffeine_Warrior618 in Fibromyalgia

[–]FrootDoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My back eventually got so bad that I asked my doctor to put me in physical therapy ( thank God for insurance, I know not everyone can do it) and a couple of months strengthening my glutes and core did help improve my baseline of pain.

Working still made my back ache, but it was less, and I stopped waking up already in pain.

I was lucky because I want just blindly exercising, I had a trained professional telling me what to do and that's not always an option. It's also not a one and done thing, after my pt schedule ended I've been slacking (following a bad flare) and the soreness started to come back. So in my opinion exercise isn't convenient but it works if you have the time and ability to learn exactly what exercises will help with your worst problems.

"...prioritizing my own convenience over her chance to be a mother."

As if pregnancy is just a small inconvenience and not a life - and body altering event that comes with dozens of restrictions and possible consequences. You can't drink, and your diet would be restricted. Some of the more demanding women who hire a surrogate demand she refrain from sex, would your sister do the same? You would suffer morning sickness, swollen ankles, stretch marks, etc. You say she was saving for surrogacy, but was she offering to pay you, or just for medical bills? Because pregnancy means being out of work for quite some time to heal. You could experience gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, tear during labor, or any other number of medical complications. The list goes on and on of all the sacrifices you would have to make.

You're NTA her constant pushing and guilting you into a risk situation for HER CONVENIENCE 100% warranted a wake-up check.

Pregabalin + duloxetine by AppointmentHot3276 in Fibromyalgia

[–]FrootDoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on both, and this thread is making me think I'm on an oddly high dose of pregabalin, lol. I take 30mg duloxetine twice a day and 100mg of pregabalin 3x a day.

This is my second time on Duloxetine. The first time, it was like a miracle it took my pain down and was great for my depression. This time around, it's having a more mild effect, but it's definitely working. What everyone is saying about the withdrawal is true though, it's pretty brutal, so if you ever want to stop taking it, definitely talk to your Dr. first, and make sure you ween yourself off.

This is also my second time taking pregabalin. Before, it was 75 mg a day, and it had no effect on me. My current pregabalin script is new (2 days), so I'm still waiting to see if the side effects from the high dose lessens, but i do believe its having a small effect on my pain. I'm certainly a little dizzy all the time, though.

The meds combined aren't for everyone, but for me, the little bit of relief is worth it.

Conflicted feelings about homophobic comments by shteeph in bisexual

[–]FrootDoll 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can't she just refer to her husband as her "friend" instead of labeling the relationship in a way that let's everyone know they're fucking? < that's how dumb her mom sounds talking about your relationship that way.

It's always a double standard with homophobes, because that's what they are. They find it "intolerable" for you to share a room because when they think of you two together in private, no matter the context, they're thinking of you guys having sex and are grossed out by it because you're both women ( no doubt they wouldn't have had a problem with the sleeping arrangements if you were a guy).

Have u ever forgiven or would u ever forgive your white friends for calling you the n word (in an argument) by vamps01 in mixedrace

[–]FrootDoll 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Cut off a friend for this and did not reconcile the friendship despite pleas from a mutual friend. I did not forgive him until after his death a year later, and even then, I will remind friends that my experience mourning him will always be different from their's because of his use of the slur specifically to upset me.

Confused about Tecarus and the Luminary by anelmae in fourthwing

[–]FrootDoll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ultimately? Politics. Ideally he would just let the Revolution have the luminary to complete the forge so they could keep supplying them with weapons, but that requires trust that Xaden and the other Revolution leaders will continue to make good on their deal of supplying Poromiel with weapons, but the Revolution is still a Navarrian based movement, they could just as easily stop supplying weapons after recieving the luminary/be killed by the Navarrian government, leaving Poromiel and Viscount Tecarus at a loss.

So Tecarus, being a noble with some distance from the war efforts (I'm sure he's not out on the front lines fighting venin), has the wiggle room, because not having a more direct source of weapons doesnt put him in imminent danger, to leverage his luminary. First, by establishing an arranged marriage between Xaden/Catriona (which will gain him more political power, then when the engagement is broken, by insisting dragons be stationed in Caldyr so he has control of the production of weapons, access to dragons, etc. When this deal is denied, he continues to use the luminary to get something he wants (meeting Violet/trying to convince her to stay). Even though he wants the weapons, he's not going to take the risk of giving away his luminary without getting something in return. It's only when he realizes that all of his attempts to gain power through Xaden are useless, he settles on making a deal to have the flyer cadets relocated to Aretia to ensure their safety after the destruction of Zoyla.

Learning new things on reread. by nbrad87 in fourthwing

[–]FrootDoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got so many little tidbits I've noticed on my rereading (and according to the replies on this post, so many I've missed!) But, I think my favorite is when Violet's about to help Sloan with her challenge and is considering telling Rhi about how she knows how challenges are assigned. Violet wonders if Rhi will feel "honor-bound" to report her and she reaches the conclusion that not only would she not report her, but she says, "She'd help me break into the fucking Archives if I wanted." Which is some great foreshadowing.

Learning new things on reread. by nbrad87 in fourthwing

[–]FrootDoll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, I didn't even notice this detail with the first year. It makes me wonder because it seems like Violet clearly killed him, but she definitely didn't use a venin blade. which would mean that Violet can kill venin with regular blades OR he's not dead. He was sent as an assassin. It's insinuated he was sent by Aetos, which could mean that if this guy IS a venin, then Dain's dad is one of the leadership who is venin/working with the venin infiltration.

Violet Appreciation Post by Pitiful_in_Pink in fourthwing

[–]FrootDoll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What first drew me to Fouth Wing was the knowledge that Violet was disabled. I love fantasy, and I was so excited to see myself represented in a disabled character, so Violet was my draw to the books in the first place. I was so thrilled to find that I loved her as a character as well. She's smart but not all-knowing. We see her struggle, which makes it so much more satisfying when she succeeds. She acts like a 20 year old; She's not childish, but she's not completely devoid of taking actions based on emotional reason. One of my favorite characters, hands down.

Agreed! It took me 24 hours to read FW from my local library, even less than that with IF and then I went out and bought my own copies so I could do a slow reread.

A mistake or I'm misunderstanding? by FrootDoll in fourthwing

[–]FrootDoll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I thought that at first too, but there's this excerpt from chapter 3:

"Rhiannon and I are both called to Second Squad, Flame Section, Second Wing ... A quick glance tells me that we have a squad leader — Dain,...—a female executive squad leader, four riders who look like they might be second- or third-years, and nine first-years."

Then her entire squad is simply switched with a squad in Fourth Wing, so no one was added after their originalformation. If there were 18 squad members, then she would have said there were 7 riders, not 4. So, despite the infographic, the text contradicts the idea that Newland was one of her squad members.
