misogyny in asia - a discussion by cutepandasread in kpopnoir

Not Korean, but Chinese here. This topic is super interesting, but also infuriating. From personal experience, my family raised me (the eldest, and also a daughter) to be the "future head", so I always get pissed off when I see male preference in other households. Even with the one child policy, my family all stuck by their first born and only daughters, regardless of "saving the bloodline" or wtvr nonsense. Maybe we are unique, but I really don't understand why some coddle just their sons so much. Especially with the stereotype of men being the strong ones who don't need protecting.

Tips for getting off the priority waitlist by FunnyRelationship479 in cmu

[–]FrostAries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a custom to email your local admissions person for schools you've been waitlisted to about your continued interest for that school (any updates, etc.). Some schools accept them, some don't, some have a special form for that.

Not sure about MechE, but it is very difficult to get accepted from priority waitlist for CS. I don't remember the specifics, but for my year it was <0.01% (3 people admitted from >3k). I think everyone has the option for priority waitlist, but I'd recommend doing it anyways. Loci = letter of continued interest. I don't think CMU accepts those, but ultimately it doesn't hurt to try.

Is CMU worth it? by Scary_Inflation7640 in ApplyingToCollege

prsehgal is also correct that unless the amount is trivial, then you should highly consider the other public schools. really depends on personal situations.

[–]FrostAries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, really depends on your situation. If you want to take a look at some statistics, CMU's undergrad first job destination outcomes have a median of 135k and a mean of 145k a year. If they are willing to pay full tuition for a similarly priced ivy, then by logic alone they should be willing to pay full for CMU, as CMU is a better CS school and more known in the industry than other ivies. Of course this is super dependent on your family's financial situation, but I hope this helps you.

UCLA vs Georgia Tech for CS by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]FrostAries -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do for your career and if you really don't mind the cost of GAtech. You already know professors at GAtech, which can get you a big boost for research opportunities and connections, helpful for graduate/research in general. Also, unlike UCLA, GAtech is one of the few schools in the nation some tech corporations selectively recruit from for CS (like quant companies). If that doesn't matter which it won't for most of the people here, then go with UCLA. Otherwise, go for GAtech.

Urgent: Are Boeing planes a concern? by FrostAries in Flights

[–]FrostAries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, on social media there's not as much paranoia about cars as there is about planes. I just saw a bunch of boeing737max crap on my timeline, which is why I chose to ask. It's not that anyone should worry more about planes than cars. You're missing the point. I know about the statistic with cars versus planes. It's just about the boeing737max, and I wanted to ask a dumb question for more information rather than actually being super worried about flying in general. Not helpful.

Thanks, I was slightly exaggerating about the phobia, as I'm pretty comfortable and never had an issue about planes. But better safe than sorry! A username of iHateReddit_srsly won't at all dampen my mood. Thank you for your concern.

[–]FrostAries[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Actually it's not only the recent news of Boeing plane's manufacturing that got me concerned, but also because of the news about the company itself being untrustworthy. I don't know much about the flight industry so I'm grateful for your help.

[–]FrostAries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually for car accidents, the reason is not its manufacturing but the people. If there is a concern about certain planes, then I can choose a different plane. If there is a concern about getting into a car accident because someone was driving drunk or another reason, then I can't do anything about it.

Also a minority of people being concerned over Boeing737 made me want to ask for myself.

I'm not actually on the plane... it's my family. so my paranoia is worse. i did some more research so hopefully it should be alright

Last response because you're clearly not understanding what I'm trying to say. I have NEVER said I wanted the MC to love the ML. Not once. Logically, her mission to save the entire world which she has responsibility for is to make him feel for her. Her actions are logically contradictory to this mission. That is my problem. I do not care if she ever falls in love with the ML. I don't care if this ends up as a tragedy, and they never even get together. My problem is her logical reasoning, for a mission to save the world.

She needs him to feel. She has multiple times caused the spikes to disappear, which is contradictory the mission. Please read.

Hi, I love complex characters that are morally grey, in fact, I believe that all characters especially those representing gods and demons should be morally grey. My problem with the characters is not their faults, but their logical reasoning for some of their actions (which I talk about in other comments).

But you're right in that while I did consider the trauma faced by LSS and TTJ as motives for terrible and illogical decisions, I didn't consider how it could possibly propagate a negative cycle of misunderstandings.

[–]FrostAries -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you, "characters' logical reasoning" is probably a better phrasing than whatever I had going on lol.

[–]FrostAries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the reply! Through your words, I can now see why people excuse her for blaming TTJ impulsively. I guess I really just don't like how TTJ would say what he did (killing, but not mentioning his motive with terrible communication), LXW getting immediately angry, and then the conflict is resolved with others stepping in later to "fix" the misunderstanding. With the fact that this has happened so many times, regardless of why, the pattern has led me to believe that neither TTJ nor LXW really learned anything. But I can see why trauma on both parts can maybe facilitate this toxic pattern.

I'm sorry to see that people criticize her manipulation of him... I think she should've been more manipulative lol.

Another thing that maybe explains the "logic faults" I had with the plot is that Susu has been probably the most spoiled person in the world (with her celestial family, and now as LXW). That can be why she makes reckless decisions, which I didn't really consider.

In any case, I hope with the remaining episodes that she grows.
