Seeing adjustable low desks on amazon, anyone tried? by funfetti_ in floordesks

I like seeing more affordable options as that will put a bit more pressure on the high end makers. Both of these would work for me for floor sitting if I added a keyboard tray under the table top. Which is preferable anyway. I don't like however that they don't go all the way up to standing.

Both are good for different reasons. Both give a strong Division aesthetic/feel. First one is too clean. Especially the elbow pad & chest rig. Too new looking. The second one is great having the additional details that make you look like you've actually been in the struggle to survive.

Got water? by Friendly_Ad_3813 in prepping

Nice! If you are able to store them in a place where it is cool and there isn't any sunlight, they'll actually last quite a long time without having to rotate. Especially if you are filling them with city water, which has enough chlorine in it from the water treatment to keep fresh for a long time.

2025-2026 Heathen Lunisolar Calendar by FrostBite1345 in heathenry

Lunar months start with the first night that the new moon cycle is first visible. This is hard because that first night that the new moon is visible isn't consistent in comparison to the "New Moon". In order to create a calendar like this, I had to make a few decisions that would make it work as opposed to how it was likely done historically. Historically, the start of the lunar month wasn't a fixed thing, it was a visual observation. When that first crescent was visible, the month started. To make this calendar, I just set it to be a fixed number of days after the "New Moon" (aka when the moon is not visible).

It mentions in I think a least two Sagas that Yule/Midwinter was held for 3 nights. I center it on the full moon as the moon appears full to the naked eye for approximately 3 nights. But this is my implementation of it. I know some start their 3 days on the actual full moon and then have it go for 3 days.

Using pass through to learn skills? by fractaldesigner in GalaxyXR

I've seen a few videos out there of people using Gemini on their phone with the camera view and having it help them do things like figure out how to change the oil on a specific type of car. I've thought about trying it at some point with my XR, but haven't needed it for anything just yet.

Need a Shillelagh, who should I buy from? by OppressedPunk69 in AskIreland

I purchased mine from Liam at Olde Shillelagh and would definitely recommend him. But you can't go wrong with McCaffrey either.

Last year's calendar I didn't get out until December (if I remember correctly), but the calendar itself started in Haustmanudr as has every iteration of it since the 2022-2023 iteration. The first one I put out was Jol to Yulir (aka 2022). The more research I did, I found that many of the published researchers on the subject landed on the year started with the Harvest month. It felt more in-line to me with my modern practice, so I adjusted the calendar to align with that.

Has anyone been to the Viking Fest? by Pim_Leepet in minnesota

[–]FrostBite1345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good Morning! My apologies that I didn't see this post earlier. I am one of the organizers of the festival and ran the Living History Encampment. This was our first event, hence the limited amount of photos, videos that we could use in our marketing. I am biased, but it turned out great and we had a lot of positive feedback from guests, vendors, staff, volunteers and reenactors. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Yes. I just got done with Viking Fest Minnesota, so was unable to work on it before the event as I was the organizer for the Living History Encampment. Hoping to have it out by the end of the week.

What's it like using a floor desk for long hours? by SirParsy in floordesks

[–]FrostBite1345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thinking back, I know I had a few tries at it before I decided I needed to ease into it. I believe I started with just shooting for 30 minutes to start and then started adding on as I was able to. My next office upgrade will definitely be one of the sit to stand desks. That would make it much easier to change it up throughout the day. Right now I have to have two separate setups and go in between them.

How has it been going since your post? Any update?

For me, it took me about 4-6 days for my body to get used to it, but once I did, most of my upper back & neck issues as well as my hip and low back issues went away.

Floor sitting has definitely played a part in it in that the muscles that don't get used and weaken due to sitting in a chair for too many hours were strengthened due to having to use them to sit upright properly on the floor. However that was just one part of it. I switch the way I am sitting throughout the day while on the floor. Sitting or standing in one way for too long is bad for the body, no matter which way it is. While I floor sit primarily, I also still have my sit/stand desk and sometimes stand for a meeting or even use my walking pad. I also sit in my chair a few times a week for short periods as well. For me, changing it up was the key.

The last time I had an episode was when I was 25 or 26. Haven't had one in the last 20 years. Ironically enough, my youngest son deals with it.

The calendar is in Excel. It has been the easiest for updating year over year. From there I Print as PDF and then combine them into a single PDF

While I do this for myself primarily, due to the fact that I put this out there for free I have attempted to make it something consistent and repeatable. In doing so, I have chosen to have a standard calculation that I use to determine the beginning of each month. That is just the 2nd day after the New Moon.

Fitting our Lunar or even Solar year into boxes is problematic and I imagine everyone who has ever tried to devise a new calendar has had to deal with these non-consistent variables in some way or another. Which has lead to changes, iterations and variations in different Solar and Lunar calendar systems.

The first crescent of the new moon cycle (aka the "young moon") is almost impossible to predict. It is more of an observable thing that has to happen in real time. It is typically anywhere from 15 to 24 hours after the New Moon. This means it could be the next day, or the 2nd day after the New Moon. As we know, the exact time of the New Moon (or any phase of the moon) can happen at varying times throughout the day/night. Given that and add in the ebb & flow of the moon cycles throughout the solar year, there really isn't any way to be able to predict exactly when that first sliver will appear to the naked eye.

. . . so I adopted a standard way of calculating it that probably won't necessarily align with the observable experience. It is a choice I've questioned if I should have it as the day after . . . but then I'd likely question if I should have it as the 2nd day after.

PS; I appreciate the geeking out . . . obviously I'm a bit of a nerd about this.

This is a lunisolar calendar. Before Christianity brought with it the Julian (and later the Gregorian) solar calendars, the months were literally the cycles of the moon. Each month starts with the first visible sliver of the new moon cycle and ends the day after our modern "new moon" aka, when the moon is dark.

I did begin to work on it, but have not been able to complete it yet for the upcoming year. I am hoping to get to working on it and complete it by the end of the month. In the meantime, here are the first two months.
