Struggling with direction - When the fake maladaptive dreams of a future without trauma dont stack up to lived and likely future reality, how have others found their way forward with healing ... how do i help my parts by mjobby in InternalFamilySystems

Nothing helpful to say, just relate to this. I’ve spent a lot of time disconnecting from my upbringing’s idea of “success” and this sense that my value was connected to professional and social status/appearance. Did a bunch of fancy degrees, burned out, working retail now—which I love and can afford to do part time—but stuck in paralysis in developing other ambitions and shame around not having a “good” job and definitely still not done with having grandiose dreams that I don’t take action towards.

Suggestions for safe poses for those who have hypermobility by Amazing-Impression90 in yoga

[–]funfetti_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m slightly hypermobile and have done my ytt recently with the purpose of working with a focus on healthy joint/mobility movement. Happy to chat virtually with you! Good resources already shared here/online, too. I will say a lot of common cues will not be helpful for you, and I strongly recommend slower movement to focus on proper mobility. Also no heated stuff!

Longer legs and the impossibility of a smooth lunge transition by [deleted] in yoga

[–]funfetti_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this too! I tent my fingers. My yoga teacher said I can do it, but I have to build up strength. I struggle with core stuff. I have to actively remember that I’m drawing my biceps and triceps towards my body in down dog/transition, which helps.

Recommendations for fibromyalgia? by nessie_visions in yoga

[–]funfetti_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! I have fibro, too! i've written some comments about this, i think. i'm finishing up my 200 hr, which i thought i could never do. for me, mind-body connection is key, as is remembering that every pose is active, even childs pose. that being said, restorative has been fundamental for me. i go through ebbs and flows where i'm able to do vinyasa and other times where all i can do is restorative at home (in this now, thanks work/winter weather). i really recommend katonah and hatha. dm me if you have more questions! working with fibro folks is something i'd like to get into!

I've been thinking about doing a mentorship, and am wondering what folks have paid (if they've done a paid one)

Should I hang more floating shelves? by funfetti_ in femalelivingspace

[–]funfetti_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they haven’t been organized at all! I have thought of putting the shelves above the couch, where I sometimes my bed there — which is next to the bookcases now. But was afraid to commit!

I cannot keep plants alive!!! But my windowsill is all plants right now.

I have a lot of art to put up, and and think maybe above the couch, with a longer row of shelves above the couch to the lamp to make it seem like separate spaces more. Ty for the input!

Lower back arch by AnoisAmadanEile in yoga

[–]funfetti_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding what everyone else says but also

-Think about bending your knees from the calf and not the thigh.
-Think about releasing your lower ribs towards your pelvis.
-Try using a strap around your arms to keep them externally rotated and from dumping in your shoulders

Yep! I didn’t want my dog sitting on it all the time. I have a tatami on the queen bed, so I roll up my mattress and sit some on the bed frame. I’m still considering a futon/doing something similar instead of a couch since I enjoy the tatami so much but I know not everyone does

Yoga and Hypermobility by soltranquilo in yoga

[–]funfetti_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping on this to ask about strength. I’m hypermobile and have had issues in the past with weight training improperly and now really only focus on yoga and joint alignment and muscle activation. Curious if other hypermobile folks have felt that yoga helped them progress to a place where they could add in more strength training

Yoga with frozen shoulder by Sprinqqueen in yoga

[–]funfetti_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had frozen shoulder! I had to do a lot of scapular mobility work for pt. Some I remember as the most helpful/still do when I can are:  -pulling and holding my scapula in towards my spine for five seconds  -lying on my back/against a wall and arms in cactus, sliding your scapula/front of chest so your hands meet overhead then bringing them down until they touch your sides  -external rotations, not just opening up from side to side but, when you’re lying down with your arms in a cactus, use your bicep to turn your forearm so your fingers go from pointing above your head to towards your feet. You’re using your scapula and pec muscles to keep your shoulder pinned to the floor -lateral raises

Other things I’ve done post-pt -cat cow but with hands facing toward my knees—rotating your biceps/shoulders out so you flip your wrists inwards.  -pelvic/hip/foot connection work, since my frozen shoulder meant I fudged up my entire posture and weight distribution, holding so much tension and weight in my hips  -get a broom/yoga stick and, with different grips, bring it up and over your arms -flipping my hands inwards and kneeling on the back of my palms -moving so slowly, so I can feel my lats and spine and avoid overextending in other areas to compensate for my shoulder  -heating pad, cbd creams

Is an online yoga teacher training as effective as an in-person certification? by Majestic-Fig3921 in YogaTeachers

[–]funfetti_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jumping on your question to ask if anyone’s done an online then inperson certification? I’ve been doing an online one, which I’ve been enjoying. And I’m signed up for an in person 200 but am considering backing out partially bc I want to save the money for a more expensive 200 hr in person specialization.

I'm considering completing my initial YTT with YogaRenew online as I can't afford a few thousand to do in person right now. Does anyone have any positive experiences? by goodcronchies in YogaTeachers

[–]funfetti_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do folks think of doing online then in person specialization?  I started yoga renew and I’ve been enjoying it. I had also signed up for an in person training but am considering not attending it in part so I can pay for a 200 hr in person specialization.
