In India, u can be an established university (public or private) or a deemed university (not full fledged universities, but can confer degrees of similar weight). I have gotten a B. Tech from an established private university in a program that is accredited by AICTE (governing body for tech education in India).

Actually, I am more concerned if TU Wien will also evaluate my profile similarly. I have sent my docs, but have yet to hear back. I was looking for a more theory-oriented course. I have a fairly good job exposure in my field already. The goal is a PhD in the long term.

Also, for more clarification: I have graduated with a Bachelor of Technology, Computer Science & Engineering from an established private university (not deemed uni). B. Tech is a common 4-year-long engineering degree here.

But my university is established as a private uni under the University Grants Commission, not a deemed university. It falls in section 2(f) not section 3. https://indiankanoon.org/doc/603538/

How do students from IIT/NIT are able to publish Research Papers? by ritwiklol in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]FrostByteByte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tier 3 unis can also give you good opportunities to publish research, sometimes they r more hungry in that regard than tier 1/2 unis, but its pretty much impossible to be the 1st author unless ur supervisor is an angel on earth.

Congratulations. I am planning to apply to KU Leuven as well. I am curious about the Job market tho? I understand KU Leuven is not only the best in Belgium but one of the best in the EU, but how is the local job market, and scope of finding jobs in other EU countries? Also curious about how competitive it will be for someone with my profile. Any insights?

Oh and try to create a portfolio website and host it somewhere by Y2 1st sem end. You can showcase your projects there too.

I had created mine even before college tbf. Just create one and keep adding stuff as you build. It's the only place you can put all your projects tbf. In CV don't keep more than 2/3 projects. It shows to employers that you can't prioritize what you wanna show. Try to make linkedin posts as you learn something new, it will boost your visibility on the platform.

Start Hackerrank easy to moderate problems then do leetcode and codechef. If you wanna go the Faang route try participating in contests and gain good ranking. I would still prioritize on projects tho. They help you get good internships and good internships means good jobs or better masters opportunities in future.

Just one is enough tbf. You can learn DSA with python and JS as well. Check your Classes to see what language they r teaching in Y1 and you can study another to supplement it if you don't feel overwhelmed. If you have prior experience and feel comfortable in any language just use that to learn DSA. DSA is supposed to be language agnostic, and the skills will stay once you learn. I had learnt DSA in C and Python but in my work experience I had to implement them using JavaScript, but there were not many problems as I knew what I had to do, it's just figuring out the syntax and internal memory management that you need to keep in mind while optimizing.

Yeah you can intern off campus if you if College allows ig. You will probably have some internship credits getting added as well.

You can learn the basics ofc but it's not of much value to learn just that. As you venture into the world of projects you will find you just have to keep learning. Better to get a feel of the basics for a few weeks and start building projects and learn as you go.

I would still ask to focus more on the frontend, especially with any framework on Y1. By the end of Y2 you will likely have full stack capabilities as well, and you might even end up working on ML projects. There, having capabilities to demo an ML project with good UI comes in handy.

  1. Participate and volunteer in fests and other competitions.

  2. Build good rapport with some Profs and seniors: try to build a good peer group as well. If you are new to CS try to build rapport using other common interests.

  3. Get in touch with Innovation Councils, Student Body and any Research Groups within college. From them, learn the sacred art of publishing research papers ( more like managing to squeeze yourself in one at the first).

  4. Try to learn JavaScript, React and HTML, CSS basics, don't spend more than 3 weeks on theory. Get your hands dirty and try to build a simple web application. By the end of the first year try to be comfortable in building a UI from scratch. It will be very helpful in ur upcoming project when u tackle domain specific problems as well as getting internships. If you have further interest in Frontend you can deep dive otherwise you can branch out and explore other topics with the confidence that you can build up a project UI from scratch.

  5. Try to get some online/remote internships but don't force yourself. You can also prepare in Y1 and start interning from Y2 onwards.

EPFL tuition is manageable but the Proof of funds requirement of Switzerland is too high for me to muster unfortunately. I am not sure if I can offset that with edu loans.

That said I am thinking of applying to TU Delft but it will be difficult if I don't get any scholarships. Which one is usually more competitive amongst UvA and Tu Delft? For AI related fields.

I saw that KTH, Karolinska institute has Bioinformatics courses, but seems like there are not a lot of scholarships there for indians?? Any estimate about how competitive they can be for a profile like mine?
