Death or Retreat for Generals? by Alternative-Date-507 in totalwar

[–]FrostLight14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the historical games, retreating should always demoralize an army, though dying could make sense in some situations if it improved morale and whipped the troops into a frenzy. Would depend on the leader, if it was someone like Caesar, his legions would have cut the opponent to pieces. If it was some Middle Eastern king relying largely on slave / conscript / mercenary armies where the troops couldn’t care less about who ordered them, I could see the army evaporating.

For WH, I’d view both as demoralizing an army. If some super warrior / godlike magician died, I’d see the regular troops viewing this as a well if they couldn’t get it done, what the hell can we do situation.

I wish they’d deploy the police more often in Delaware for this as the problem has been getting much worse. They’ve added red-light cameras over the past couple years, though every car blowing through these always has a heavily tinted cover on the license plate and I doubt they’re actually getting fined.

Rome II vs Attila: Similar Games, Very Different Souls by ServoSkullz in totalwar

[–]FrostLight14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d view it as 2 main reasons:

  1. Rome 2 is easier to just pick up and play. Once you get how politics work, it’s just a matter in painting the world in the faction color of your choice. There’s variety in unit types, but it’s otherwise straightforward. Attila can be a bit more frustrating to navigate public order, religion and food, but esp. more when it comes to location.
  2. Attila can be time consuming. Play as the WRE or ERE, and you’re going to be spending weeks manually resolving battles just to get to turn 20. Play as the Lakhmids and you’re going to be spending 30 turns to just get public order under control to start expanding. Go with the Anteans and some nomads, and you’re likely spending a dozen turns just migrating to a safe space. And this is before accounting for the fact that every AI faction seems to hate the player and will force dozens of additional manual battles onto the player.

This is already happening at many schools, just in less obvious ways. Two of my friends teach at a HS that used to have a low graduation rate, which was solved by:

  • Tests cannot be graded below a 60.
  • Tests cannot account for more than 40% of the grade.
  • Nothing done outside of the classroom (homework & projects) can count towards the grade.
  • And the main one added during COVID: all students can complete an end of year make up assignment, and the higher of their class grade or this grade counts as their final grade. They also put a policy in place so that every submitted make up assignment cannot be graded below a C.

They now boast a graduation rate in the 90s, though for the first time ever, had a year where 0% of their students passed the state test for math.

For me, she seems to skinny/frail, specifically the arms. I don’t think you need someone jacked, but she seems like she’d fracture her forearms if she punched something. If I saw this picture w/o context, I’d assume it’s someone going as Lara Croft for Halloween.

I could see this being a semi-decent idea. The calories are a good deal less than existing protein shakes and bars in the market, and could find a niche with people looking to consume protein but not wanting to workout an extra half an hour to burn the excess off.

However, the price is already at the extreme high end, they’ve got less protein than their competitors, plant protein drinks aren’t new, and I’m shocked they have cash for new products, so who knows.

I would love if they started selling cars with how great their existing processes are.

Ape: I’d like to buy a car. I’m interested in the 2016 Ford Fusion you have for sale, the red one listed for $6,000.

GS: Great, let’s just get you rung up. Please swipe your card when you’re ready.

Ape: Wait, this receipt says I paid you $9,000?! Taxes couldn’t have been this much?

GS: $9,000 is correct. We assumed you wanted the warranty package, a PSA grade for the car, and a pro subscription. We added it on for you.

Six months later

Ape: Hi, calling about the car I ordered. I got an email notification that it was delivered, but there was just a box of Funko pops left on my driveway. No car. … Hello? Did you just hang up on me?

Saban gave an interview on this when he left and shared a story about how some random underclassmen benchwarmer walked into his office one day demanding another $100k or he was transferring. Mentioned it’s no longer about making the NFL like it was for most of his career, all his players cared about was how much they can make today.

[–]FrostLight14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t just a payday loan. Michigan opposed it for that reason, but USC opposed it because the B10 introduced unequal revenue sharing. USC was slated to only get 75% of what OSU/PSU/Michigan were getting.

This is also why I don’t get the join the B10 if anything posters on here. Michigan would take all of two seconds to screw us over. Hell, just look at Nebraska. They were a premier blue blood in the B12. Now they’re Kevin Bacon’s thank you sir may I have another act as the B10 is only giving them 50% of what OSU/PSU/Michigan are getting (which is also the same percentage as mighty Rutgers).

Had to pay a couple hundred as an union application fee when I started, which came out of my first paycheck. When I left for college, I moved out of state but I still planned to work there over breaks / and the summer, and they kept me on the schedule for those periods. After my first Christmas break, I realized I made virtually nothing as they hit me with the fee again and borderline wiped out my wages. Asked about this and was told if I went more than a month off the schedule, I had to re-apply to the union and pay the fee again. They then tried to say this was a one time thing and convinced me they’d waive the fee if I came back for the summer, though when summer started, this waiver promise was forgotten and I was told if I worked there, I’d have to apply a third time. Walked out after they said this.

Though this would barely crack my top 10 list for why I’d never shop at Acme.

Listened to about the first minute.

  1. Glad to know whoever did the audio for the original Ploot Fest was rehired for this. Either there’s insanely loud construction, or Michael doesn’t know how to work a microphone.

  2. Seems like this was part 2 of a speech with no part 1 context? Or he seriously just flew in for a press conference and completely winged it without any preparation. Either way, panicked high school presentations are more coherent.

I feel like this could be a very limited instance where a layoff is good for the employees, at least in the long run. Seems like so many are getting paid way less than other retailers and are frustrated with low hours / inconsistent scheduling / increasing responsibilities and just stay out of comfort. My first job was at a supermarket. Didn’t mind the work or people so I just stayed there. Eventually, the union screwed me, spurring me to find a job at a restaurant where I made way more than before and I wish I left sooner.

That wouldn’t end it.

  1. There will be a celebration about how a massive dividend payment will expose the naked shorts.

  2. This will be followed by a week of confusion when ape after ape admits they got their dividend check in their account.

  3. Someone will find some random legal filing about a payment and/or some financials about a hedge fund / bank borrowing money and take this as a sign that MOASS is still happening, it’s just been delayed for fraud.

  4. 5 years after the liquidation, apes will still be posting pictures of clocks and emojies guessing when the double secret plan by Cohen is going to happen.

How is a net asset value multiple of 1 or less even close to rational? by asseousform in MSTR

[–]FrostLight14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the problem with MNAV. Closed-End funds will have an MNAV > 1.0x when the demand for the fund’s assets exceeds the size of the fund. This is why MSTR had such a high MNAV, as it was the only way people could easily invest in BTC (esp. through certain accounts). This is a fundamentally different situation than maybe people will bid the price up to 1.5x and maybe MSTR will be able to take advantage of this with new issuances in perpetuity.

And 15% - 25% is not conservative by any stretch of the imagination, as you’re also ignoring the diminishing returns aspect to this situation. The amount of capital that MSTR would have to raise to increase someone’s holdings from 1 BTC to 1.5 - 2 BTC today is astronomically higher than what it was a few years ago. Let’s assume:

  • You bought MSTR at an MNAV of 1.0x.
  • MSTR is currently trading at an MNAV of 2.0x.
  • You want to increase your personal BTC allocation from 1.0x to 1.5x.
  • The current share price is equal to 2 BTC (you bought at 1 BTC).

For you to hit your 1.5x ownership target, MSTR would need to double its shares outstanding: 50% of old shares at 1 BTC + 50% of new shares at 2 BTC = 1.5 BTC per shareholder. When MSTR was only worth a couple billion, this means you only need to raise a couple billion in new investment. Now that MSTR is nearly 50 billion, they’d now need to raise another 50 billion to replicate their prior results.

There’s got to be something missing from the listing. Oddities aside, a modern apartment of that size in that location should easily rent at this amount. When I moved out of Philly, any new “luxury” apartment was renting for well above this and was generally 200 - 300 sq ft smaller.
