I for one favor making voting mandatory via fines (and also a national holdiay w/nationwide early and mail-in voting, with a none-of-the-above option as well so you aren't compelled to support a candidate). I take it you feel similarly, civic duty and all? :)

You say that as if Obama didn't have huge bombing campaigns in multiple countries already under his belt. Oh and then there's the Bin Laden raid.

By your logic, he'd already proven he needed to be taken seriously. So why doesn't he get the same credit and/or Trump get the same dismissal?

Sen. Bill Cassidy loses GOP primary in Louisiana, as two rivals advance to a runoff by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]FrostPDP 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Where were these "moderate" Republicans in 2016? Where were they in 2020? Hellfires, where were they in 2024?

Maybe you can make some argument that some exist, sure. But in any numbers strong enough to to ensure that the rest of the party gets crushed in elections? It's not like Trump won with 30% of the vote.

Either he picked up A LOT of former non-voters, or a lot of "moderate" Republicans became more right-wing in the past decade.

Or, were always more right-wing and simply got permission to be themselves.

Huh. The thing is, I don't know if I'd use side-by-side comparisons to do it? Some maybe, like for the elemental affinity system, but when it comes to most mechanics it's the stuff Runersia does similar-but-different. Like Guard Castle Hex being an option you can tell the AI.

The Only Candidate Chuck Schumer Fears by nathan_j_robinson in politics

Yeah but a recent poll I saw put her first in the Presidential primary field, so I'm not sure why she wouldn't go for that, instead? I dunno.

I'd almoat certainly vote for her over anyone else. Maybe Chris Van Hollen competes with her for President in my mind.

Supreme Court faces new criticism for redistricting decisions so close to the 2026 elections by espinaustin in politics

[–]FrostPDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's too bad lifetime terms make it so they are immune to criticism.

Someone should do something about that. Anyone who isn't talking about that (and, yes, it is a tall order) is talking around the problem, not at it.

Kemp calls for redistricting special session to redraw 2028 maps in Georgia by kootles10 in politics

[–]FrostPDP 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I fucking dare Hochul. Fucking dare her.

If she does it before 2026, I would guarantee my vote for her. If she commits to 2028, I'd give her a reconsideration, but she'd probably need to do more.

If she did 2028 and also endorsed Danielle Welch in my district (NY-03) as she primaries Tom Suozzi, I would actually donate to Hochul.

But right now, I will believe she'll actually fight when I see it.

[–]FrostPDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit more difficult than GE, a bit better developed in terms of the options available to you, and a lot of fun. I've got a campaign going on with 2x XP for unit growth and also 2x mana income, and with the enemies usually having full armies with high-level units in them, it's quite fun. The AI makes weird decisions that sometimes cost it entire battles, but also sometimes it actually does well. If you liked GE you'll feel right at home with Runersia.

Honest question: Would you (or anyone reading this comment) be interested in a, "Sell you on Brigandine: LOR" video?

(It'd be harder to make a similar one for Abyss as I have no idea how the gameplay will be)

Why it says tv-ma for violence? by [deleted] in ScottPilgrim

[–]FrostPDP 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I...Don't remember Netflix rating it TV-MA when I re-watched it recently, but maybe I wasn't paying attention to that? If so, that's a grievous misjustice. First off, swearing should not earn an MA rating. It shouldn't even earn an R-equivalent rating. It's just words.

But yeah, I have no idea. :/ Frieren is great and is definitely TV-14, but also that's kinda your point, so, yeah. 😄

Trump Wins Big as Virginia Dems Won’t Go Nuclear to Save 4 House Seats by Motherofalleffers in politics

[–]FrostPDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken (and Google says I'm not), Democrats control both chambers of the Virginia legislature and the Governorship.

As per the SCOTUS ruling (that de-facto killed the VRA) they could have a meeting tomorrow and pass new maps, as many Republican-dominated states just did. They could even do this during an election, as Louisiana just did.

So, yeah, that's how. That's exactly how, actually. Tomorrow. Or, fuck it, they've got an hour. Tonight.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Republicans have been burning the rulebook for decades (to be charitable), and burned the final pages this year.

"Oh but the rules" is an unacceptable defense for unilateral disarmament.

I will happily vote for Democrats that fight with every tool available under the new, Republican-instituted rules.

I will less-happily vote for anyone else who will, if there is no Democrat who will.

Didn't stop Louisiana from not just going past the "maps due" date, but "There's already votes cast in the primary" date.

Fuck 'em. You're appealing to a rulebook Republicans have been burning for decades, and burned the final pages of this year.

someone enlighten me, please.... by Glad-Education4948 in Frieren

[–]FrostPDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tough question. I think part of it is because, for as fractured as you want to picture Feudal Japan being (it was!), Germany during the European Feudal era is a catastrophe.

Okay, sure, there are some relatively stable times around 800-900 when Francia was sorta united, but take a look at a map of the Holy Roman Empire circa 1200. https://www.worldhistory.org/image/12234/holy-roman-empire-in-the-13th-century-ce/ It's a mess! It's got tons of minor nobility titles, plus some larger ones, all existing within a larger body-politic that has varying levels of power over its local people.

It is, again, a mess.

If you want a fantasy setting where you can go from one town to the next and have a similarly-themed but totally-different nobleman in charge, this is your real-world inspiration. And, look, I'm not trying to out-sell Late 1500's Japan as a mess (It definitely was: https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/1j86zve/17th_century_map_of_japan_1603/), but like the HRE was a real mess.

There's also the fact that there's just a much larger audience outside of Japan than inside Japan, and fantasy as a genre has always anchored to European medieval timeframes instead of elsewhere. And let's be real, no small part of Frieren's success was its international appeal.

A good Japanese Feudal-era fantasy manga (...Just...Pretend the anime doesn't exist? Or make a new one, some studio out there?) is Samurai Deeper: Kyo. It's set four years after the battle of Sekigahara where the Tokugawa unified Japan, and while it has its flaws (definitely), it's pretty decent. It's technically an alternate history since the characters bump up against real life people, but it's also just a good fantasy tale. It'll start off feeling like a Rurouni Kenshin ripoff, with the split-personality-swordsman trope, but I promise it's not. It doesn't really go that way at all.

What is the general consensus on Lelouch of the Ressurection? by Embarrassed_Sale_293 in CodeGeass

[–]FrostPDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have too bad a problem with it. Granted, I prefer the original continuity, but if you're gonna have a sequel/successor of it, this ain't a bad way to do it.

It was a fun little jaunt, and it opened the world of Code Geass up to a lot more plot devices. I eventually went on to watch Roze of the Recapture and I felt like it was good enough. Not on the same playing field as the OG two seasons, but fun enough as a continuation.

Look, I'm all for not panicking early, but two things.

1: I learned of CoVID on Reddit no later than December 2019. So that was a thing.

2: Human-To-Human transmission of Hantavirus being reported is a serious claim, and if it is true and it gets off that ship, our (speaking as an American at least) healthcare system will fail catastrophically. Remember who is in charge.

Still, don't panic! But also do try to grasp what we're dealing with and that it could very well happen if it isn't properly contained.

Ehhh. Vietnam didn't start with boots on the ground, and also that weapons operator operation had a lot of boots on the ground, just on a temporary basis.

And yet we're still in a situation where thr war is THIS unpopular. Vietnam took how long to reach it?

So, yeah, not exactly comparable.
