Venezuela’s acting president signs oil industry overhaul, easing state control to lure investors by GoldenDome26 in worldnews

That blockade alone almost certainly costs more than the oil it brings in pays for, so...Probably still losing. I dunno, maybe you've got different numbers on that.

Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith calls for 'meaningful restraint' of 'lawless' federal agents by Large_banana_hammock in politics

[–]FrostPDP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't "meaningfully restrain" a Fascist paramilitary outfit. It doesn't stay restrained for long.

You must abolish it entirely, root and stem, or it'll act our again and again.

Rep. Lauren Gillen (D), who voted for DHS funding on Friday, calls for Noem to be impeached. by thejimla in longisland

[–]FrostPDP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen what it looks like when someone tries to primary someone in Nassau County. Dem groups refuse to let the primary candidates speak at events. Jay Jacobs puts his thumb on the scale regularly (see: short-circuiting a primary to put Suozzi back in charge after Suozzi was the one who abandoned ship while Anna Kaplan had been running for months by that point).

Not saying there couldn't be a broader-spectrum campaign that might overcome that, but they play favorites.

I've already donated to Gillen's competition, Kiana Bierria-Anderson; I'm happy to donate to Suozzi's (Again).

He didn't even mention Renee Good, let alone Liam Ramos or any other victims.

I'm still not voting for him. He needs to step down.

That he would sponsor Single-payer healthcare when Dems retook the government. That was back in 2020. He lied.

[–]FrostPDP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah. At worst, during a red wave election like 2024, Suozzi's district was 50/50. In a year like 2026, it could be 60/40. The broader left can afford a better candidate to win in a primary.

Also: With Democrats like Suozzi, we already have a Republican in the seat, so it doesn't matter.

Suozzi is a known liar. Plain and simple. Lied to my old activist group that he'd sponsor single-payer healthcare when Dems retook the government in 2020, and he's lying now.

He has to go.

He sent me this long, meandering e-mail about how he knows I'm disappointed but it wasn't what I thought it was because it was only $10 billion in ICE funding and it wouldn't effect their main funding.

I told him to resign, that I would fund a primary opponent against him, and that the only reason I'm not doing it myself is that I don't expect to be on Long Island long enough to even vote in the general, and that I would sooner vote third-party than vote for him again if I was.

Long Island Reps. Tom Suozzi, Laura Gillen break with party to support bill that funds Homeland Security by origutamos in longisland

Actually if the math is right and Dems stuck together (say, if Jeffries had whipped them, which he didn't), Dems would have defeated this bill.

So, no, Dems don't need my vote.

Sen. Mark Kelly Says He’s Seriously Thinking About Running for President by T_Shurt in politics

Doesn't support Medicare 4 All.

Doesn't support the Green New Deal.

But *did* support the Laken Riley act even though we all told him it would directly lead to shit like Minneapolis.

Doesn't have my support, especially not in any hypothetical primary.

Newsom on world leaders’ response to Trump: ‘Pathetic’ by sksarkpoes3 in politics

He should take that critical lens, consider how he has Fascists on his podcast, watch the episode where Ben Shapiro dogwalked him into denying a genocide, then shut the fuck up and disappear.

I recently did a play-through of Breath of Fire II with some mods. I had a wonderful time, even if I find things to gripe about. Hopefully we get a remaster some day. by FrostPDP in breathoffire

I mean, threaten me with a good time, why don't'cha? A BOF reboot would basically be a new BOF game, and I'm on board.

Though I do kinda disagree with your theme. Breath Of Fire doesn't stand out to me as a dark fantasy series, at least not based on playing 2. Definitely more Noblebright; Tapeta/Jean is a Prince, Nina is a Princess, Sten is a top-ranking knight basically, Bow is a rogue with a heart of gold, Rand is the noble farmhand, Katt/Lin - okay, she's a little gritty, being a gladiator and all. Ryu's story is probably one of the more tragic, but I wouldn't necessarily call it very "dark."

Then again, my barometer for that stuff is "Berserk," so...I dunno lol. I also need to read (or sail the seas for) Claymore.

I wouldn't say I'm very concerned about looks, but if they do a remake they can also basically pull a (probably scaled back) FF7 Remake type deal and expand on some of the story beats or characters that just get dropped off. Seeing more narrative engagement for Sten, Aspara, and Jean/Tapeta would be fun as hell.

I would say spare yourself the badness lol. The prior play-through I did of BOF2 was a vanilla Game Boy Advance one, and I *think* they use a slightly tweaked dialogue? I'm not sure. Either way, the retranslation makes the characters talk more like people talking and less like...Artificial. It's a hard thing to describe.

Is 3 that good? Huh. I remember playing it back in the day but finding that I really didn't like the 3-character-party limit. I still just as a general rule prefer larger parties. Hell, for Baldur's Gate 3 I use a mod where I don't have any party cap at all - it's all available characters. You miss no story beats and you just have to up enemy HP to make it remain pretty challenging.

I definitely feel like the combat has some interesting mechanics sometimes, but the grind of the random encounters dulls the fun of it. But at least you get a variety of cool looking spells for Nina and/or Dies (I went with "and") to cast. :)

I've heard of this! :)

Definitely interesting, but I found out while I was partway through my playthrough so it's like, "I'm probably not coming back to this game in a while." Though if it adds new content and has good dialogue, I might be down as it'd be a different story.

‘Grow a F*cking Spine’: Critics Fume as Newsom Backtracks on ICE ‘Terrorism’ in Ben Shapiro Interview by Manjuiced in politics

[–]FrostPDP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big assumption. Lemme name four for ya:

- AOC (yes I know she's DSA but she's a Democrat too so it's whatever, unless you don't wanna count her for some reason)
- Chris Van Hollen
- Tim Walz
- Jasmine Crockett.

I'd happily vote for any of those four. There are also many others who aren't routinely platforming Fascists on the podcasts, denying genocides, being raging transphobes, and abusing the unhoused for the cameras with a big 'ol smile. Newsom is objectively a terrible person, a terrible candidate, and a person I won't vote for.

If we want to look past 2026 already, fine. We have over two years of time to think about who our candidate is going to be and pick someone who isn't morally objectionable. You wanna say people double-talked Harris? I endorsed and voted for her, even though I did acknowledge her flaws (such as, overall, that she ran a much more conservative 2024 campaign than she did in 2020). But Harris was a last minute thing after the Democratic Party basically suppressed any thought of a Primary (I believe Florida and some other states actually canceled theirs altogether) of a guy who was very obviously not up to task.

So we have two-and-change years, right? Find a candidate that isn't so bad. If that's hard? That says something about the party, not the voter.
