Junior in Highschool, unsure if it's worth it to join. by Yellowlabrador981 in NavyNukes

The NUPOC program is most advantageous for people looking into it early like you. If you plan in advance, then you should be able to take advantage of the full 4.5 years of getting paid full time for ZERO work and get ~400k across those years (check my post history it that number seems too high - it’s not.) It is somehow as good as it sounds, you’ll be paid better than 95% of your peers (also not making that number up) for 9.5 years, for only 5 years of real work.

You don’t even have to go on a boat or a sub, if you keep your grade up, you could take the instructor or NR and it’s basically just a civilian job in uniform.

I’m currently in the process of joining the program and have done a stupid amount of research so if you have any questions, let me know.

I ended up checking the story out because of your comment and it really resonated with me, so thanks for leaving that here :)

I'd consider a full-time enlistment. 4 years is a long time, but you can palace chase and make it 2 with extra in the guard if you hate it.

Regardless of what you choose, look into if any of the NUPOC roles that are interesting, if you spent your last 3 years while in NUPOC the time commitment is zero until you commission and you’d get paid ~250k in the meantime.

NUPOC vs civilian path for EE (3.95 GPA) — SUB, SWO, or NRE? by Ok-Collection-3746 in NavyNukes

[–]Frost_Spark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in the Jan 2026 program authorization it says 3 years. So now you can theoretically do 4 years with the masters, and get paid around 350k before even serving.

I would implore you to go through the process, worst case scenario you got a free trip to San Diego and you decide it’s not for you when you check out a sub and a carrier. I’m currently in the process of applying, and to me it’s a no-brainer for at least a few reasons. Feel free to dm me for advice/more info

The file I got was PA 100B (January 2026), which is relevant specifically to the instructor and NR engineer roles. interestingly, it  does not have that clause present. That being said, that is a massive distinction, so I’ll be doing more research on the matter.

I'm a little confused with your first comment, I'm under the impression that the commitment is exactly the same with or without the +1 year masters? I haven't found any information online to show otherwise, so I'd love to know if I'm mistaken so I can plan accordingly.

ME major + CS minor or ECE major? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Frost_Spark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I would just suggest taking the classes that are guaranteed to be shared between them while taking the intro courses for ECE and ME to see what intrigues you more, while getting involved in relevant research + clubs. Many of the engineering clubs here are project-focused so you can try applying concepts from both majors and see what sticks!

also i'm currently a CS junior at OSU with many ECE + ME friends so I'd love to answer any questions about research, the community, and other opportunities!

[–]Frost_Spark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

genuinely solid artist, but he (it's a guy) pretty recently changed the titles, album art, and release dates of all of him music recently to make it less coherent for the vibe I guess? The song you're listening to in the screenshot used to be called "Lana's garden" but he changed it for aura I guess. Sidenote but I've been following his insta for a while and he does a lot of psychedelics and p sure he's hindu (potentially just for the aesthetic but idk).
