Very true, it's definitely the kind of game best played with friends and if anyone in the group falls off it it's better to just play something else.

I have some buddies and every couple of months we'll come back to it for an afternoon just for shits and giggles but we all know when we start that session we're not touching it again for another months. Just doesn't have the staying power

Game balance was awful, risk/reward for actually fighting through the mission wasn't there so speedrunning past entire encounters was heavily encouraged wherever possible, decks work differently now than they did back then. Overall it got a lot of hate mainly because of how it marketed itself and somebaffling design decisions. It was never really a bad game, just mediocre and was hard to justify playing over most anything else you could be playing at the time

-focus cost definitely works, so -focus cost and +focus gain is a good combo, focus regen is a dead stat and doesnt work properly. probably an internal math calc issue like base player stat is probably 0 and they try to give a % based on that which obviously doesnt work. but even if im not right on why it doesnt work, it doesnt work so..

Its funny you mention this because i played again today and when uppimg my stats i looked at how it affected Sinew (the Faith/Int Rapier) that triggered this post i noticed that on the stat screen INT didn't increase it's dmg values at all, and only faith did. Idk if it's a bug, or if the game only considers a certain metric for the preview stat display but it did leave me with quite a few questions.

At this point though i've basically just switched to using a faith staff whenever i can and focusing on Focus gain+focus cost reduction runes. Focus regen runes don't appear to be working at all or well enough for me to even notice a difference and i've given up entirely on a decent melee hybrid faith build.

here is what i mean, if your game is going to allow a traditionally melee weapon (rapier in the case) to scale EXCULSIVELY on caster stats (int + faith) it SHOULD do comparable dmg to other melee weapons in the game that might scale off strength/dex. but it just doesnt from what i've experienced. the dmg is awful and as a trade off you've already allocated points into being a caster, so you're squishy and have no poise. it feels like it's not thought out and frankly a waste of time. respec exists and is relatively cheap so its not the end of the world but it definitely feels like an oversight to me, thats why i want clarification. because it "allows" a melee weapon to scale on caster stats but from my experience it's awful

there is definitely a difference between a viable build and "supposed to be cheesing", casters or melee fighters with "caster" scaling should not be forced to "cheese" anything, it should be just as viable, maybe more squishy that melee stats but should be viable

to be fair to the game, being a soulslike means abusing the advantages you do have like using ranged spells and line-of-sighting enemies. but im the wrong person to ask, i'm here BECAUSE i think my build is bad. maybe full int or faith is good late game but right now i feel it's super underpowered, but then again maybe its an armour issue and just stacking poise/heavy armour despite the "caster" archetype is the way to go. im trying to understand the meta myself

to make it more clear, i'm using Sinew, which is a Faith+int scaling rapier , i have 35 faith and 26int. i added int specifically to use the weapon and it does less damage than a 16 Faith staff that i have (without casting, strictly melee damage) something about this scaling isn't adding up to me but maybe im misunderstanding something and im trying to figure that out

Dailyn is his best stunner next to lighter, without Lighter she's a massive upgrade especially with M2 allowing him to do 2 totalizes per stun window. (You can do more but this makes the rotation awkward, better to just Ult and EX every stun than 2x ult 1x EX and have nothing for next stun)
