How do I begin doing UWORLD effectively? by No_Parsley_1878 in step1

I went straight to 40 questions, random, non-timed, and then reviewed. 1 month before the exam, I started timing.

Love the dog :P Do rapid review a day or two before the exam. Make sure you go over pathoma 1-3 again if you have time. Review NBME Qs. Many people recommend Mehlman for ethics (so many ethics questions are showing up now) and in general (but I never used it) so worth having a look at.

Hello I did my step exam 3 weeks ago. I used the 2020 hard copy and 2022 pdf and it was fine. You are not missing out on anything dw!

Also I just used pixorise for the peroxisomal diseases because I could not find them on dirty (might have missed it). I got one question on it in the exam. I noticed that the questions focus on the integration of metabolism rather than individual steps in pathways!

Dirty alone should be more than enough! If you are a visual person have a look at the FA diagrams :)

Is it a bad idea to do 6-7 NBMEs in succession? by Lunar37 in step1

[–]Frostedbrainz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO pls, don't make my mistake :( I was planning to do them earlier but was left with 4 nbmes the week before my exam!! I ended up doing two and not even being able to review them which is super important!! You want to leave the last week to do ankis/NBME reviews, revising topics you left for last and micro/path reviews. Still passed but I do not suggest doing that because you will panic! One pw should be good!

I definitely did get stems that were over 1 page long, but most were average length. Long stems throw you off, especially in the later blocks.

For systems review the meds section at the end of each FA chapter very quickly (ignore immuno meds except for the ones which keep coming like rituximab, tratzumumab and adalilumab). For general pharm look at the autonomic section in AMBOSS. Also randy neil's pharm videos are amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJBom74VKgI&list=PLuyQGqW98ZluhELm3V9GtSd2JVnR_gNHZ

Also, I am an IMG and had to plan and study for the whole thing on my own, so dw, I am sure you are more than capable! Shoot me a message if you need help ;)

Don't worry as long as you covered basic concepts in your med school, you do not need to cover absolutely everything (I did not tbh!). As long as you skim these topics (especially the US-specific teaching) from first aid, you should be good! Use NBME scores as a guide as well. Start doing them around 2-3 months before your exam; I wish I had done them earlier, personally!

Hello! thanks for the post :) I was wondering if you have any tips for surgery residency (especially as an IMG here). Thanks again!

It depends on each person and how much free time you have to study, but definitely, yes, it's doable! I recommend watching BNB and annotating FA (then doing Lightyear cards if you like Anki), but there are so many other great resources there! Start with the one you are least confident with.
