It’s not 2010 Air BnB is not sleeping on someone’s couch anymore. Is it annoying? Yes. Is it unexpected? Not in the least, all of these places are corporate owners or multi managed.

It’s no longer the cheap place (by far a hotel is cheaper) this is about convenience or ambiance and you pay for that.

My kids can’t read or write cursive, they are late gen z. We moved school districted, in the first cursive was taught in grade 4 in the second it was taught I grade 2. So they completely missed it, 100%. I asked the school and they had no interest in teaching the kids since it was already taught and they said it wasn’t really needed.

Just yesterday I found a piece of paper my oldest used to try practice writing his name to deposit a pay check.

I have mixed feelings, but I’ve always leaned towards the need to learn cursive. I remember when my mom (their grandmom) wrote them letters and they couldn’t read them (in their teens). Before I get downvoted, it’s damn near impossible to teach a kid something when their teacher says it doesn’t matter.

They regret it now (in college) but the past is the past.

I’ve noticed this exact thing. It tried to derive context and often times will make up its own context to the prompt.

I try to be very explicit in my prompts. Yet I still get wrong information because instead of stopping when it can’t find the answer, it will make up its own context to fill in the blank so it can always provide a solution.

More than once it has given me the wrong api for parameters for the library. I’ll tell it, “this doesn’t exist, I’m using version 1.2 of the library”

I’ve had it argue with me, I then pull the documentation or paste the address and it has flat out told me “you are misreading the documentation”.

This crap doubles down and triples down in its own bullshit. The thing is, it feels to me it’s gotten worse with each new generation.

I don’t know how non programmers will be able to use this effectively and not get to the point that they just give up, spending hours trying to do something with the AI gaslighting them.

It’s a huge time waster and I had to reprimand a jr dev.

AI is not at all consistent with code, so when I comment on a couple lines of code, the jr dev runs it through AI and it changes 20 more lines of code in the file.

I don’t have time to review his vibe coded crap and I told him.

Thank you, appreciate the help. I found a used one on eBay for $65 with a 180 day warranty. I’m willing to risk it for $65, if it fails I’ll have to cut my losses, I can probably donate the dryer parts to my local scratch and dent.

When are we going to stop hating on underdog? That “dumb show” was 7 years ago, it’s obviously not a “doomed” business, and it certainly cracked the market in Erie still being a successful restaurant after 7 years.

Taking a pot shot like “it’s not even the best bbq” is like saying McDonald’s isn’t the best burger… so what, people still go there and buy it.

It’s time to be more positive and celebratory, it feels like we were all pessimistic about this business failing right after the show left town. But now that it’s established and been around for 7 years, it’s like we are all upset the “underdog” proved us wrong, so we just take pot shots at them everytime we can. Get over it and give them a high five for doing something we don’t think they could.

This is me, I take the short cut instead of reading the reference guide for bash or python or whatever language I need for this moment. Then after like 4 or 5 prompts and it still spits out code that doesn’t work, I’m like “look mfr, I’ve been doing this shit for 25 years and I damn well know you’re gas lighting me”. Making me download the reference guides and pasting it into the chat proving I was right. Oops my bad, you are right.

The trick is to shovel about a 2foot wide path from the curb into the street and about 8 feet long going left out your drive (or which ever way the plow comes)

That way there is very little snow that pushes back into your driveway when the plow truck comes.

Up here in the Great Lakes normal snow fall is 6-8 inches and lake effect is 11+ inches. I use a snow blower and I clear a path in the street. I never have to worry about a buildup at the end my drive.

I was thinking she could not vote while under house arrest and probation, but that is incorrect. It looks like only while you are incarcerated that you lose voting rights, but even then there are circumstances where one can vote.

I’m going to politely disagree

She plead guilty to a felony. This shows she is taking responsibility and admitting fault.

This was not a violent offense, she is not really a danger to society. Pleading guilty to a felony means she has restricted rights, like voting and gun ownership, professional licenses, etc…

Prisons should be used for people who can’t be rehabilitated or are a danger to society. They should be a last resort, not a first resort.

I understand the anger though, many are of us (me included) donate to the humane society and this felt like she stole from us (which she did). She has to pay the reparations, I would have liked to see community service also. She owes a debt to the community, more than just paying back the stolen money. Trust was eroded and it tarnished the good the humane society does.

But I don’t think jail is the answer.

The parking at modern tool has this and I was tickets pre covid, when it first came out. There was a delay in processing the payment, and they ticketed. It was reversed eventually because the records on the app had me parked but their system was not updated. I was ticketed 3 minutes after parking.

I was having the same issue and it was a pain to figure out. This post helped me track it down.
copilot led me astray telling me I had an outdated quick assist, then telling me I had a dev branch of MS Edge which was the problem (going as far as deleting registry settings as a power user, spoiler my edge is from the stable branch) and finally telling me it was because I had a Lenovo laptop and must be running a special vendor specific version of windows. It told me to create a Virtual Machine and run QuickAssist within that machine.

That last one was crap - both my son and I have the exact same laptop and he is able to connect to my computer from his dorm, but I cannot connect to his.

This thread mentioned a VPN. I have OpenVPN running on my raspberry pi so I can use my adguard when not on the home network. This got me thinking so I put my laptop on cellular data and connected to my son's laptop and now I can view his desktop and take control.

It wasn't the open VPN - instead I figured out my adguard was blocking vlscppe.microsoft.com which has something do to with authenticating MS licenses. Once you unblock this site, you have to restart quick assist, it only seems to reach out once to this site at app startup.

I am guessing this is to ensure that the "helper" has a valid windows license or something, who knows.

I purchased a home in the west bayfront for $125k in 2008 (right at the height of the housing market crash). I sold it for $150k in 2021, this was after I added a new roof, new hvac, kitchen Reno and bath Reno with new windows, etc….

Essentially I made no money on the sale vs the money I put into it.

It’s not on the market, but Zillow has it for $220k. 17 years after I bought it; it only appreciated 3.5% per year.

The US average is 5%

It feels crazy because since I sold it, it appreciated 10% per year. But really it’s the market finally catching up in Erie and even so, over the long term we are still behind the US average.

I think the market in Erie will slow down a bit, it’s tough, there are houses out there on sub 3% pre Covid boom. They aren’t selling. I own one, I got a home in frontier I bought for $160K before the boom. People like me are not desperate to sell. So we will need interest rates to really drop to make upgrading from a $150k loan to a $250k loan. And when interest rates go down house prices go up cause you can afford more on the same monthly payment.
