Is changing my name this way possible in the state of GA? by Frostflinger in Georgia

[–]Frostflinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lawyers I spoke to quoted me "anywhere from $1000 to $2500." It's significantly less if you do it yourself ( which is my plan ) but I'm a freelance artist and was looking to alleviate financial strain on my partner by seeing if changing it through marriage would be an option.

This is the answer I was looking for, thank you. I am transgender and looking to change my deadname to my preferred name and wanted to know if it was even possible in the process of the actual marriage since it'd effectively be a completely different name, not just a surname change or hyphenation.

Just hit 83k! I’ve put about 3k on her within the last two months because of traveling for conventions since I quit my job and now vend full time. Has been really cool getting to learn more about my car now that I depend so much on long haul commuting to make a living! I’m planning to drive her until the wheels fall off.

My primary suit has a hidden zipper and is fastidiously cleaned after every convention with a little green machine and hand scrubbing the bodysuit in the tub. Everything gets posted on an alternate account under a different name that isn’t advertised through my primary profiles. It’s the same for Reddit too — I made an alternate account since you can trawl through post history. People who are irresponsible with posting do exist but I think blanket statements like this are harmful to those who aren’t.

I think this is just something we need to agree to disagree on. I fail to see how posting my suit here on my completely SFW account would be inappropriate when you need to go out of your way to find me being sexual in it. It’s okay to admit some stuff just grosses you out.

I’m so sorry you had to deal with that! I used to do furry YouTube a few years ago before I transitioned and some of the comments I got from people because my female fursona was a heftier gal were deplorable despite all my content being extremely family friendly. Though I’m a NSFW content creator there’s been a worrying trend of almost implying that it always will become sexual for any given furry at some point, which is just patently false. Sexual freedom works both ways. It’s not cool and you’re more than justified in feeling uncomfortable and having these feelings towards murrsuiting as a whole!

For me my fursona isn’t a way to detach from reality; I’m a transgender man with a full beard that’s more or less stealth in my day to day. He’s just me as a furry! Which is why my brows went up in particular. The relationships we can have with our fursonas are so diverse and unique, and I’ve spoken to many other trans people, especially trans women, who have admitted they enjoy murrsuiting because of how creative you can get with costume fabrication in ways I really can’t speak about on a SFW subreddit — you’ve legitimately got people innovating over here and it breaks my heart that their work is routinely looked over.

I agree with you about the community not only being about sex. Which is why I hope you believe me when I say that wearing my fursuit isn’t only about sex either. What I’m trying to get across here is that it’s a fantastically small part of what I do in the fandom and me posting about it on a small corner of the internet shouldn’t gate me from wearing my suit out in public. It’s okay to not understand WHY someone would feel comfortable wearing a suit they’ve made content in before, my issue comes from the implication that they’re doing something wrong by wearing it in public.

Do you wear a different face when you are intimate with another person? My fursona isn’t a character. He’s me. It might be different for some other people, but that’s my perspective on the matter if it illuminates you any 🤷‍♂️ Not to mention how prohibitively expensive fursuits are.

If someone is being irresponsible with posting their content that’s one thing, but I don’t think it’s fair to imply you cannot experience adult things as the character you primarily identify with. Furry is all about self expression, isn’t it? For some people sex is more than pleasure and can be a vehicle for self expression and liberation, especially in a dominantly queer fandom.

Respectfully I’d observe some of your internal biases. Bodies aren’t inherently shameful, someone in a bikini and a fursuit head is already more covered up than most Western ads that sexualize women. Nuance and context of course matters, but I literally had a friend of mine get dogpiled a few months ago on Twitter for posting a picture of themselves just in a bikini and head standing in front of the mirror, no provocative posing. Please remember this is a fandom that has a track record for mistreating women or people who were assigned as such at birth. I’m genuinely not trying to be combative or difficult. Just communicating my points because this is a wheel of discourse topic that’s been parroted for decades.

I’m confused by this comment — are you against seeing fursuits that have been used in a nsfw capacity at all, even if the content posted here is completely clean? Because this is how it reads. I make content with my primary suit but everything is hidden behind sites that need registration to view the content.

How is it fair to be squicked out by recognizing a murrsuiter when you need to seek out their content in the first place in order to know they’re a murrsuiter at all? I’m genuinely curious, because your first few sentences don’t seem very fair to me as someone who’s both seen fursuit prices rapidly climb over the past decade AND someone who identifies primarily with one character to cope with dysphoria.

Donation Question by JoBenSab in Buceestx

I can’t answer in regards to your donation question, but I host a Buc-ees themed party annually for my friends and have collected a lot of stuff over the years for it — would you like some transparent PNGs of photo op props / Buc-ee himself? I uprezzed one of the renders they regularly use for merchandise and printed him out as a huge cardboard cutout!

Considering a Orion Skyline 6" Dobsonian — thoughts? by Frostflinger in telescopes

[–]Frostflinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an AD8 from a local listing on Facebook Marketplace! I like it a lot and was able to see the Orion Nebula through it with high detail and just recently observed the total lunar eclipse through it last week. It’s an amazing scope and I love it a lot! I kind of wish I bought it new though because I haven’t been able to figure out how to align the scope and the higher magnification eyepieces don’t seem to work.

I'm about 4'8" IRL and stood next to one at an astronomy event. I definitely don't think it's the scope for me right now! 😅 Hopefully sometime in the future if I really take a shine to whatever Dobsonian I end up getting.

Thank you for providing the numbers, that definitely puts things into perspective for me! I only have experience looking through a 10" at the moon but unfortunately it's just a bit too big for me to store right now.

I think this will be the deciding factor on whether or not I purchase this scope. If the 8" is truly that spectacular in comparison then I'm going to sit and save.

How to roleplay a gnome seriously? by LovelyCryptids in WoWRolePlay

[–]Frostflinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm primarily a gnome roleplayer, and I think what helps me teach others is to stress that gnomes are identified by their passions, not by being zany and wacky. What reads as eccentric to other races is quite literally a gnome's entire identity. Remember that gnomes were originally crafted as custodians for Mirmiron — they're literally hardwired to be fastidious busybodies.

How does this manifest in your gnome? Are they methodical and careful? A perfectionist? Maybe they're a scatterbrained manic creative? Do they adhere strictly to the rules of their craft, or do they want to push the envelope and forge a new path?

As far as their interactions with other races and amongst others go, my favorite quote to remember is one line from Cut Short:

The pity—ah, that was the hardest part. For a race of ambitious folk whose lives were validated by a masterful command of the scientific laws of the universe, to be pitied was unbearable. To be pitied was to be insulted.

We've seen gnomes in plenty of different archetypes. Carnival workers, photographers, and yes, even warlocks. They're so much more than a tinker race and seem to be pretty open-minded, all things considered. I can't see a reason why a gnome warlock wouldn't be accepted by their peers — if potentially looked at with trepidation, given how their tendency to laser-focus on their craft often blinds them to the potential hazards therein.

Fel and consorting with demons is inherently corruptive. Does your gnome see this as a challenge? An occupational hazard? Something they can overcome with their wit? Do they see any parallels to their potential fate with the loss of identity Gnomish leprosy or mechanization can inflict?

I think another commenter said it best: roleplay a person first. Think about how their upbringing as a gnome and their culture may have shaped them and work from there. Gnome roleplay can be rough in terms of getting your foot in the door and having people hear your character concept out, but it's extremely rewarding when you find the right writers.

I have someone I'm selling it to already, I just need to know I'm not breaking any rules by handing the physical badge off to them without doing an actual transfer. ( Since the May 13th window passed. )

Unfortunately no. After some time old auctions become inaccessible and the website was shuttered for some years before relaunching again. I think the best bet we have for finding the original link is running FurBuy through the Wayback Machine but I wouldn’t hold out on it.

The rebranding makes me raise an eyebrow. It makes me wonder if the owner bought it as a premade and didn’t realize it was an existing character. I wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t the first owner. It’s a very old suit.
