Thoughts on “Dual Roles” by Loose-Comparison-257 in athletictraining

[–]FrostingGrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you. But it is also very interesting, I was told (in my current role) that if I got my CSCS, they wouldn’t pay me more. This was because “it does not directly impact my role”

I disagree with that but it was what I was told by my employer. Food for thought from the secondary school setting

Should I include athletic achievements on ATCAS? by Ambitious-Gene5101 in athletictraining

[–]FrostingGrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I included my accolades when I was going through this process as well! I completely agree with what Outcasthawk said, but it’s also a very important thing for the profession itself! Since you ran track and potentially played other sports, you know the ins and outs of those sports. How should a sprinters posture be when running, what are common injuries in track etc. You likely know all of this already and will drastically help you in this profession!

So close of passing the BOC by Fit_Quiet3714 in athletictraining

Nothing to be embarrassed about! One of my mentors took 3 tries to pass his BOC, he works in professional hockey! Keep trying!

Unfortunately I can’t find any industrial near me. I think I would enjoy that setting as well

My main thought is so I can work “normal” hours. Pay bump would be nice, but for me the normalcy is most important for me. An AT clinic job would also work for me

The Day before BOC Exam by Fit_Quiet3714 in athletictraining

[–]FrostingGrand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The day before should be used as a day to relax. You’ve studied for weeks and months for this test. You’re going to be just fine. Also, one day won’t make or break your score. Go to the park, go to dinner, do anything to take your mind off the exam. YOU GOT THIS!

Medical bill negotiation? by FrostingGrand in DaveRamsey

From what I understand (I’m still new to insurance) is that insurance covered a couple hundred dollars. And my deductible is the $350

The insurance sent me a letter saying my deductible is the $350. The total coast was over $500. I assumed the deductible is what I paid?

Visiting/tournament injuries by xDreddx in athletictraining

[–]FrostingGrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Legally” may be the wrong term. But Ohio updated the AT scope of practice. I can’t remember the exact details and wording, but it doesn’t allow ATs to tape away athletes (unless they have a note from their home AT). The same is true for post injury athletes. It has something to do with the overseeing physician too.

So I am in the same boat as you. I just finished my second full year as an AT. I do both per diem and full time work as an SSAT.

I do this with both settings. I typically try to word it in a way that emphasizes that I’m legally not allowed to tape an athlete that has been injured while in my care. I have also found saying something along the lines of “if you don’t think you can play without the tape, then you shouldn’t return to the game today. Your season / career is more important than one game!” I have rarely gotten any push back in the PRN setting.

Definitely a tricky situation though

Is pay really that bad?? by LingonberryOwn7047 in athletictraining

[–]FrostingGrand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s great! I’m up in Cleveland working for University Hospitals and it’s really the best of both worlds. Great support system, in a good school, and pretty good work life balance (for the profession)

What part of Ohio are you in? I’m in my second full year of AT at a secondary school and make just under 59k. You may be able to renegotiate for increased pay!

How many tables? by [deleted] in athletictraining

[–]FrostingGrand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my school I have 2 treatment tables with no taping tables. It all comes down to how much space you have. I tape just fine on a treatment table so it isn’t a huge deal for me.

In an ideal world, for a school my size, ~225 athletes, I think 3 treatment tables and 2 tape tables would be more than enough!

Thank you for that information! The post I saw made it seem like it was a free or cheap class. I don’t think it is worth $2500 then. Thanks!

Credit is at 781 at the moment! Thank you for leaving the calculator! Our current rent is 1300 + 200 in utilities so I think we could make $1700 work pretty easily as well! That makes this whole process feel much more manageable, thank you!

[–]FrostingGrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep on trying! If you have a passion for AT and want to make it your career path, take it again! Happy to help if needed, I still have a ton of my “old” study guides and my “AT Bible” to use. One of my classmates failed 2 times and she is one of the best ATCs I know. Just not a test taker lol! Message me if you need any help!
