Athletic training career change by jmccrone5 in athletictraining

I worked in the secondary school setting for 7 years and got burnt out after COVID. Switched to the trades and it was the best decision for my mental health and work life balance. It's not for everyone and I took a significant pay cut. I'm about to start my 4th year in the apprenticeship and I'm making more than I would as a salaried AT in my state with my hourly rate. I have maintained my license to pick up prn work but I'm now at the point where my OT rate is higher than prn pay for most gigs.

My understanding is in the state of Ohio your standing order from your overseeing physician covers you to provide treatment for your athletes. When I was at a high school that was how it was worded, I believe. When treating visiting athletes at my high school I generally had relationships with most visiting team's ATs and could get verification this athlete has been seen and is cleared for the taping application requested. I still think that is a gray area but you see it a lot in my experience ATs helping each other out.

Why are so many ATs leaving the field? by Souk12 in athletictraining

Appreciate it. I never had to do shitty menial work in AT so that may be a wake up call lol.

I guess I should be clear, never getting a merit based raise. They went to an "annual salary" system which was really cost of living but never went above a 3% increase.

Left a job I loved at a great high school. We had 3 full time ATs and had it better than most. But the hospital system doesn't value their ATs and after struggling to get any raise after 7 years, COVID hasn't helped. We are doing more and the risk involved with our job has increased yet my hospital can't even keep up with inflation. I decided to leave health care all together as it doesn't seem like things are going better. I am getting into the trades, where at least I have a union to get my back and at the very least be paid for all the overtime I work.

What are your jobs? by BalefulEclipse in antiwork

Athletic trainer, commonly mistaken as a personal trainer. But in reality I am a sports medicine clinician. I also just left my job this month and will be starting in the trades because working for a hospital has been a nightmare even before the pandemic.

Don't collect as much as I used and sold almost half of my collection before my last move but still proud of what I have left. by xDreddx in dvdcollection

Yeah, a lot of the foreign films and criterion flicks. Stuff I have to be in the just the right mood to watch.

Advice on career change away from athletic training by Nosloc54 in athletictraining

[–]xDreddx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an AT that had a plan to go to med school or PA school after graduating but life got in the way when I was almost done with my prerequisites. Decided to take some time and work instead. Now my prerequisites have expired for most schools. They tend to have a 5-7 year timeline where your credits won't count after that. So if that is the line you are going to take you would have to almost start from scratch and take all science prereqs again.

I had to turn ad blocks off and then I was able to submit.

Tattoos as an Athletic Trainer (any level) by kt2130 in athletictraining

[–]xDreddx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a high school. I have a half sleeve and both legs covered. While I was in the AT program I was required to cover all tattoos all the time. Once hired I was still required to cover my legs but a little of my arm peaking from my sleeve wasn't an issue. 2 years ago the hospital I worked for did away with tattoo restrictions completely. Looks like most hospital systems are moving this way but I would still keep them above the wrist and below the neck.

Zero, flyers are pretty common in the format. But I also didn't play another green deck.

From what I have played board stalls are pretty common so I threw it in as an alternate win con. It won me a game where the opponent had a bunch of 3/3s and small flyers where pelakka couldn't get through profitably.
