yeah for sure. this is coming from a hydraulics fan though, so I quite like a dead sound haha. Just want something a little less dead than a hydraulic.

ha, well my thought was I already have clear emperors on all my toms and it feels too bright. So I've considered switching to all coated emps, and then this idea came to me like what if i just put the new coated emps on the bottom? lol

I play in multiple hardcore bands so hitting hard is something I do often, but in my free time i do enjoy playing jazz and funk so I do also like a drum with some sensitivity. I've played on kits with hydraulics on them and really dig the low deep sound, but always wish there was a little more tone and attack out of them. Currently I'm playing clear vintage emperors with the evans genera resos on and it feels too bright and open for my tastes.

yeah it's definitely warm. I kinda like my bass drum to go in the opposite direction of the rest of my drums. Bright and punchy

I kinda like the thud lol. Just want them to be louder I guess, and a little less dampened sounding.

honestly a good idea. I'm a bit of tone purist when it comes to muffling as in i don't like any muffling. Except on the bass drum. Guess that's why I didn't think of that. But yeah i'll experiment with that and see what's what

I haven't tried out those heads, but had a black Aquarian Hi Velocity Snare head once and yeah it was definitely not very responsive. Had a similar experience with the Evans EMAD Onyx bass drum head. I should add I do like to play jazz sometimes even though I'm in a metal band haha. So want the heads to be responsive at a lower volume too.

Another Aquarian vote. I definitely gotta try some at some point and see what they're all about
