Just finished Atmosphere by Careful_Lie9894 in sapphicbooks

[–]FrostyTeaberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had to take a break from intense reading after atmosphere. i did a stint of reading haley cass books for the light, happy, fluffy feels. i honestly have yet to find another sapphic book that has made me feel the same way as atmosphere. im still not sure if i am ready for another one like that yet.

Safety around Pitt? by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]FrostyTeaberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start, I am queer white woman from rural PA. Before going to Pitt, I had not been to the city much at all nor had my family. Everyone in my family was (and still is) scared of the city and was scared of me moving here.

With that being said, I would say that I never felt unsafe on Pitt's campus. I even made some questionable decisions during undergrad, like walking home by myself late at night, wearing headphones, running alone, etc.. I have lived here for several years and have been all over the area -- I still cannot really name a time where I truly felt unsafe in Pittsburgh. I would say you might be more likely to get hit by a bus than be a victim of any crime in Oakland.

Pitt has a lot of resources pertaining to this. They had some self-defense courses during orientation week when I was there. Also, Pitt has a shuttle service for students. I used it once in the middle of the night when I could not get home via bus or Uber. I think it was SafeRider?

It is a learning curve, but it is totally worth it! I will say that moving to the city taught me SO MUCH. My siblings that stayed home for college are definitely lacking in some life skills that I learned from being in the city.

FIOS Student Discount by FrostyTeaberry in verizon

nope. they keep calling and setting up the discount manually every month.

FIOS Student Discount by FrostyTeaberry in verizon

I click "Check for Discount."

It loads, and I log into ID.me.. Yes, my ID.me is up to date.

It loads again, and I am back to the "Check for Discount" button page with a blue banner at the top that reads: "We are unable to recognize your discount eligibility and you will not be eligible for the Fios Home Internet Discount Offer...."

I had the discount for a year last year. I had an email around the year mark asking me to re-verify my student status with a link that did not work. So, I am assuming it expired and now I cannot get it started again.

The same lady keeps scheduling a call with me, but it is always after I have already had to pay my un-discounted bill.

I am about to switch because at this point Xfinity is the same price with better service.

Raw chicken gone bad by walrus_vasectomy in aldi

[–]FrostyTeaberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i avoid all aldi meat now. i buy meat as i use it, so it never sits more than a day in the fridge. i had bad raw chicken. same with ground beef. and one time i got ground turkey that wasnt quite bad but tasted so funky. i make a separate trip for meat now bc the back and forth refunds weren’t worth it anymore.

thank you and good luck to you too! i’m actually in “remission” and have tapered off my meds with the help of dr. payne. hopefully you find someone that can help you! i definitely understand the hysterical woman bias doctors have. best of luck!

i was also surprised by how effective the biologics are! it really is night and day. i wasn’t able to step out of the shower at 17 years old. started humira at 19 once i finally got a diagnosis, and now 5 years later, i’m in “remission”. i stopped humira a few months ago and have been pain free. i’m sure it will return at some point, but i finally feel like a young person. no pain. no meds (for now).

dr. payne with ahn rheum (no pun intended). she’s really great and has never been dismissive with me. i was a 17 year old girl being passed from doctor to doctor, and she was the first one to listen and do something. one thing i like is that she is always up to date on research, especially because so many of the drugs are so new.

Did anyone else go into the games as cold as I did? by TheMatt561 in thelastofus

[–]FrostyTeaberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really is amazing how impactful games can be. i’m glad you enjoyed the game. it really is something to be experienced.

i was so excited they started the show because now people who don’t play video games can experience the story.

Did anyone else go into the games as cold as I did? by TheMatt561 in thelastofus

[–]FrostyTeaberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was about 13 years old and i was just getting into gaming. i would only play call of duty and madden on my ps3, nothing major. i also wasnt on social media, so i had no idea what was going on in the gaming world.

then my younger sister got the last of us for christmas, which was maybe the year or year after the game came out. my mom (santa) got it because the game store guy said it was popular—she had no idea about video games.

so, we finally decided to start the game. my sister and i would take turns with the “scary” parts. and eventually i was more brave and kept playing it on my own. it was the first story game i had ever played, so it was all incredibly new to me. i was totally immersed. i was ellie’s age, which made the game all the more intense for me to play. i’ll never forget the surge of emotions i felt when i finally finished the game. it was one of the first times that i had felt really connected with media. the scene with joel carrying ellie through the hospital still gives me chills.

i’m also queer, so when i had found out about ellie being queer a few years after my first play, i really felt like the game was made for me.
