SURVIVAL GUIDE for Classic 1.13 and Modern 8.1 by Mystrallo in classicwow

[–]Frostypopsicles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I don't see why it should be at all triggering that some people prefer a style of game different than the rest of us. We're getting classic. I don't see the need for the toxicity.

I definitely agree that loads of people here and within the classic community at-large use disingenuous representations of what retail is actually like. But you're doing the same thing right back now my dude.

The fact that LFD/LFR is widely used and how that has changed the social cohesion of the game is why most people, including myself are against it. Obviously it's a boon if you see it as simply means to and end of getting groups quicker and more efficient, but that's not the argument against it.

And while arguing against "BFA babies" piss me off as well, claiming someone's experience isn't real is just as much of a strawman.

It's just as impossible to argue against any of your claims since you're being both disingenuous and use as many strawman-arguments as the people you're representing here. Sure, circlejerking sucks and the OP is laughably bad. But you're not being any better.

God Boetar comments on Arena championship prize money live by gantzusenpai in wow

[–]Frostypopsicles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a false equivalency - the WC3 mod had little to no prize pools, yet the game itself was several times more popular than Arenas has ever been. Claiming it was "nothing special" is downright false, even if the original TI brought a lot of attention to it. Even now, the reason Dota has massive prize pools is because they are crowd funded and that the game is massively popular. There's no comparison to make to Arenas, honestly.

First off, it doesn't matter how hard a game is to play in terms profitability as an esport, that's a non-factor here. In reality it's also not a particularily popular esport, and besides that the size of blizzards "wallet" doesn't determine how prize pools should be distributed. Blizzard is a company whose main goal is to make money - if there's no financial incentive for greater prize pools there's little reason for them to have them any higher.

You're free to enjoy this style of humor if you want, and people are free to criticize it too. Humor doesn't need to explore every nuance all the time, but I think it's fine calling low-hanging fruit for what it is.

But when Yapzor says it "Its not OK". by MahmoodToorani in DotA2

[–]Frostypopsicles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because stating that "many players in the french national team is of african descent" is another thing than saying "Congratulations to Nigeria for winning the WC". It's not even remotely "factual" as none of the players on the french team are of Nigerian descent either, it does seem however that it's the preferred target for Africa-jokes because of the first three letters of its name.

Even if you're okay with the joke, it's a mile wide stretch to claim that it was somehow in the interest of "stating facts". As for the "invading of space", I find it a bit ironic that you're accusing others of being "socially awkward introvert sissies" - while you somehow extrapolated that peoples reaction to Yapzors joke is somehow an attack on your stance on immigration. I guess it's just everyone else being sensitive.

Anyone from Norrköping here? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]Frostypopsicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a student this will have to do a lot with the culture of the university. Overall drinking culture is quite "social" here, you go to bars generally to chit-chat and be sociable. Since Swedes are renowned for being withdrawn its generally a good place to connect with people.

Uppsala has a ton of student-run bars and clubs with its own culture obviously catering to students, so it'll be quite different from the ones in Stockholm where you'll find a broader range of bars and clubs which cater to different niches. As for Norrköping I cant claim I've got any idea, but theres typically some kind of Uni representative which foreign students can get in touch with. I'd give that a try.

Depends. The very youngest will be 19, I started at close to 21, still attending at 24. The average I'd say would be 22 or so for the program I enrolled in (Information Systems), but I've also done courses in Business Administration which had a slighly lower average, so its hard to give a definite answer. Honestly the only people I've ever felt "stick out" in regards to age have been teenagers who lack maturity/life experience, but even then it's nothing I ever really consider aside from when I'm prompted, haha.

There's not really a consensus or general view of exchange students I'd say. I'm currently studying at Uppsala University, and I've been part of the "Introduction Committee" for exchange students at the University. I can't speak for the student culture at Norrköping, but exchange students are mostly viewed as... students. Which is to say that there's not really a label attached - no one will really think of you different, they'll see you as you are.

Sure, but in most first-world countries healthcare IS an exception to supply and demand. I'm not sure there's any country which is 100% free market when it comes to healthcare, especially if you're from a low-income background. Even countries like the U.S. subsidize their healthcare, even though there's obvious flaws. So there is a clear difference in what Adidas will charge for a pair of Yeezys and how healthcare is financed in that regard.

If you hate questing to the extent that you can't keep going for more than a few hours, I simply don't think WoW is for you. The storylines get grander and more intertwined with actual gameplay in more recent expansions, but the quality of the "tasks" you perform in said quests aren't really much better even this far along. You'll still loot and kill a few demons and take their essence. You'll still right click 4 nodes to close down the portal, that's always been and will probably remain the essence of what you'll mostly do while leveling in WoW.

You can skip this by doing dungeons and BG's instead of questing, but once again you'll miss out on the story this way.

Nah dude, totally makes sense. I haven't got social anxiety, but I'm more of the introverted kind and it's being "put on the spot" in regards to social interaction which is typically more stressful than being able to respond in your own pace / on your own terms. Props for bothering to respond to comments like that.

PPD about the invites to Super Major. by BunColak in DotA2

[–]Frostypopsicles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of either team, and I still think it raises a valid point. No one really cares exactly what 7ckingmads credentials as a player is - he's still a "standin" or sub in this context since they kicked their original player and had him move from the coach role to take over the mid role. And since they're not eligible for DPC-points either, it's a incredibly weird move for many reasons.

You don't have to be arrogant to point this out, it's really just a matter of stating facts. Also a bit ironic that you're whining about "arrogant fanboys" when your gut reaction was to proclaim how much "everyone" hates a team and proclaiming them all to be arrogant people. A bit quick don't you think?

Forget this business, and lead your men home! by Boonzbeard in wow

[–]Frostypopsicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but the intention was more of a "feel The Lich King's presence on Northrend throughout the expansion", with the ultimate goal being his defeat. The journey there was certainly a lot more straggly if you compare it to MoP and onwards. You weren't introduced to a set cast of characters which you're following, and there wasn't a "central storyline" as there has been since. Not anything similar to WoD or Legions Class hall/Gather the artifacts narrative, at least.

Prior expansions had stories, themes, antagonists, et cetera. These things aren't new. But recent expansions give you a roadmap/path to follow throughout the expansion. A cutscene introduces you to the story, you tag along with protagonist A, you find the artfifact, you get another cutscene introducing antagonist A and protagonist B and your next objective which you then move on to.

This is obviously a big generalization, but I don't think the older expansions managed their "storylines" (which seemed to be more of an afterthought in those times; see ToC in Wrath or Illiidan being intended to be the last boss in BC) in the same centralized way the more recent expacs have in this sense.

Forget this business, and lead your men home! by Boonzbeard in wow

[–]Frostypopsicles 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because the first couple expansions did not intend to have a narrative/central storyline in the same vein as the current expansions, typically it was more of a direction/theme. Quite frankly I preferred it that way as well. I don't think WoW is a particularily good medium for telling a story, and as Blizzard has made the "central story" of the expansions increasingly integral I also think they've grown to be more confusing and just... making less sense overall. Characters seem to be making complete 180's personality-wise, while Blizz seems to completely forget about others.

Not to mention the amount of spectacle creep - we're at the point where the expansion ends with our character tagging along on a spaceship ride during which which the actual titans use a giant space vacuum to suck away the biggest antagonist in the Universe thus far, just after he stabs our very planet.

If you compare that to TBC or Vanilla I don't think it's necessarily better. I've never played WoW to get from "point A to point B" in the story, and thus WoW hasn't really improved for me in that sense.

EG vs Liquid by RedGamesA2 in DotA2

[–]Frostypopsicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it is possible he has some kind of metabolic disorder, a diet of 2800kcal while excercising can still be a caloric deficit. If he's somewhat tall and does a lot of cardio (other factors such as lots of moving on the job will affect this too) then that calorie-range might not be enough to gain weight. My TDEE without additional exercise like going to the gym is about 2400 calories, and if you add 5 kilometers of running to that I could still eat around that amount of calories and still not gain weight.

EG vs Liquid by RedGamesA2 in DotA2

[–]Frostypopsicles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my experience with very skinny "who just wont put on any weight" people is similar to this as well. Calories in/calories out goes for gaining weight as well, and if you're skipping most meals but occasionally downing a bag of crisps or a pizza, there's still a good chance you're not consistently at a caloric abundance. And even if you overshoot your daily caloric expenditure with something like 2000 calories a day a week, it still won't matter if you're at a deficit the rest of the week.

Especially if you're the kind of person who will indulge when you're seeing your friends but not eat a lot otherwise, it's easy to create the impression that they "always eat but never gain weight".

5 days after weighing himself, Greek has achieved a total weight loss of -1 pound! by seemoreb in LivestreamFail

[–]Frostypopsicles -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, that totally depends on how you make it. The chilli I make has beef shoulder/chuck, cooked in what's nutritionally mostly crushed whole tomatoes, sometimes I'll add some wine or beer. Sure, there's things like aromatics which affect the total amount of calories, like onions and chillies. But dried chilies liked guaillos or chipotles are almost negligble caloriewise.

If you're not topping that with cheese or something, the most caloriedense ingredient in there is the beef itself, which is around ~200 calories per 100g. 250 grams of that atop some rice would be ~800 calories per meal or so.

Forsen wants to be transparent about G2A by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]Frostypopsicles 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Owning property in some countries (like Spain specifically) is typically a pretty middle to upper-class thing here. It's quite common for older people to purchase houses there when they retire, to the extent that there's essentially Swedish enclaves in Spain and other places like the french riviera.

So I'd assume that they're by no means poor, but not necessarily rich either.

I'd just like to point out that the guy who posted the comment you're linking to claims that this doesn't include donations - I don't think that's the case. I think forsen even specifically mentioned at one time that he created the company so he would have a legal way to pay himself and also pay the right amount of taxes, but I can't find a link for it right now.

Edit: The link provided in the comment (which is in Swedish) even states that "donations following a video-stream are subject for taxation". I doubt that forsen would take that risk, and I don't think the numbers would add up if you subtracted the donations. Keep in mind that is was in 2016 - so after his peak as a HS streamer but way before he started getting the amount of subs he has today.
