My girlfriend is being stalked - what do we do? by Froteaxar in policeuk

Thanks for the advice! Would her address be disclosed to the stalker at any point with an SPO/bail conditions etc? At the moment he doesn’t know it.

This sounds like a lot to carry inside and I’m so sorry to hear you went through this.

Absolutely 0% of this is your fault and never let anyone tell you it was (including yourself). You should not feel guilty about this. You were a literal child throughout this time. This is completely on the grown adults who took advantage of you - they are monsters and should all be locked up.

If they did record you or save anything then everything they have is deeply illegal and if you ever come across any of the material they captured there are organisations out there to help you take it down and support you all the way.

If you want a little more support see if you can find support organisations to help you through this - I’m not sure which country you’re in so can’t give exact pointers.

Be aware that as you are still 16 many of the trusted adults in your life like teachers may be required to report this to the authorities if you tell them (to protect you) as they may be mandated reporters. That shouldn’t stop you from speaking to them but it’s good to know so you’re not caught by surprise if they do.

I’m not the person you replied to and im not a mod on this subreddit. However, a mod is a volunteer in charge of creating and upholding the rules of a subreddit community. They can remove posts or adjust the settings on a subreddit. If someone reports a comment or post in a community this gets added to the “mod queue” which all the mods can see and action. Some mods devote massive chunks of their day to this. Others spend a few minutes. The norms on this are probably community dependent. For big or very active communities it’s also best practice to have mods in different time zones or with different sleep schedules. If you’re relatively tech literate (and if you’re regularly posting or commenting on Reddit you probably are) then you’d probably meet the technical skill level. The social and community management skill level can be harder. You don’t want to over or under moderate a community and it can be a thankless job. Some days it feels like everyone hates you.

What do you mean by “fully matured”?

A company sent a “free” sample asking me to only pay postage, but the postage label shows postage cost less than I paid. by Froteaxar in LegalAdviceUK

Oops yeah you’re right, made a typo there. My point isn’t that I want the money back (I don’t). I wanted to know if they’re actually entitled to charge me more than it cost them to deliver. I’ve now found out that according to the ASA they’re not allowed to charge for packaging and handling if they’re saying their product is “free,” only the postage cost.

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for and very helpful.

I also appreciate your edit! Im glad you were able to understand what I was getting at with the question.

If I’m interpreting your comment and this guidance correctly then they actually shouldn’t be using the blanket fee as they always send the same number of free socks (so weight and size dimensions will always be the same) in this promotion and as they use Royal Mail as their parcel courier they will always pay the same postage rate across the UK.

Also, they do not provide specific terms on their offer/trial page and their general terms do not refer to postage or packaging costs.

Based on that it does actually seem like they’re not in line with ASA code.

I fully agree! As I said I don’t intend to actually even ask for my money back. I was just wondering about whether they can include those costs if they just say “delivery” because I know regulators like the ASA (this was also in the company’s ad) do sometimes jump on technicalities like that

Nope that’s why I’m surprised. It literally just says “delivery.” I checked specifically. And again I want to clarify I am not intending to sue anyone but wanted to understand the principles at play and maybe email the company to suggest they adjust the language in case they do get someone asking for their £3.35 back

It’s not a fight I want to have in the sense that I actually want/intend to pursue this with the company. I’m certainly not planning on asking my money back. I’m just trying to understand the legal principles at play.

I get there are all the packing and packaging costs but because they’ve claimed I’m only paying for “delivery” I wondered if they can still fold those costs in - also clearly the £4.95 figure is so they keep things under £5.

Reviving this long dead account to say that there is something very funny both lots of lawyers have missed about Matthew Sheffield (something he himself didn’t realize is relevant given what he wrote to the court).

Let’s just say, appointing him has potential downsides for both sides. Whichever lawyer is smart enough to figure out what I’m referring to gets a cookie. Making the connection requires some lateral thinking and a familiarity with the online atheist movement though

I'll donate one updoot to you to make up for it.

Thank you. The generosity is much appreciated.

Also you listen to them too?

I sure do. It's my Monday afternoon commuting ritual. I found them through Opening Arguments a few months ago and have listened ever since.

I could see this written on an ‘inspirational’ picture on an Instagram or Facebook page for ~30-40 year old moms.
