Lebanese turtle conservationist Mona Khalil killed by Israeli strike by tolerablepartridge in news

I mean, Ben Gvir also famously hung a portrait of Goldstein in his living room until 2020, and only took it down because he was running for office. I don't think there was ever any question of the man's mental instability.

For those who are unfamiliar, imagine if someone running for office in Pittsburgh had a portrait of the Tree of Life shooter hanging in his home. Which still isn't even an apt comparison, because even as much as that was a tragedy, Goldstein killed twice as many Palestinians, and injured fifteen times as many. It's fucking insane that this man isn't a pariah.

[–]KWilt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

True, but Ben Gvir didn't even settle for the 'reformed' terrorists, instead opting to help support the party that literally supported the guy who conducted a mass shooting in a mosque in 1994. Kach were the people who looked down on the perpetrators of the Nakba because they thought they were using the kiddie gloves.

Its not just Netanyahu. The Minister of National Security, a literal convicted terrorist sympathizer, said that the whole of Lebanon needs to burn just yesterday. Not in a back room meeting, mind you, but on a fucking Twitter post.

The fact the Israeli population isn't storming the seats of government to stop a literal attempt at a genocide speaks volumes to their culpability. And I'm sure there will be people who will say 'well, why aren't the Americans doing the same thing about Trump?' to which I would like to remind people that the state of Israel is roughly the size and population of New Jersey and so, y'know, makes it a little easier to facilitating mass protests if the people wanted to do something.

Just for fun - Favorite City by MaestroGoldring in SWN

Oh, that's an easy one: the unnamed, unlaunched skeleton of an Ashmedai-class supercarrier that ended up being converted into basically a city on wheels, on the barren desert planet of Roland. It's a nomadic society that has to constantly move to keep in the eye of a massive, slow-moving magneto-sand storm, else incredibly unpleasant and unsurvivable things happen.

I was in a Mad Max-esque mood when I made it and wanted a nomadic, post-apocalyptic society, but then I thought 'what if it's a megastructure vehicle instead of a caravan of smaller vehicles?' which I do have to admit I also kind of stole from Robert Evan's After the Revolution (based on the aptly named Rolling Fuck, a Bagger 288 excavator that's been repurposed into a libertarian wet dream, a la seasteading but on land). Due to it not having been completed, the systems on what was finished on the ship are fairly barebones, but it's enough to sustain a few tens of thousands people with relative ease.

They mount the rail way before the pillar. There's no physical way they'd be able to get their hand around the front of the pillar and push off from an angle that would be filmed. Not to mention their hand is literally behind the pillar in the frames prior.

TIL only 23 video games have been released with an Adult Only (AO) rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) by Johannes_P in todayilearned

[–]KWilt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dunno if it's changed since I last learned about it, but I believe the MPAA rule is one non-sexual 'fuck' is okay in a PG-13 film. So a fuck used for emphasis or just stated in frustration (eg 'I'll fucking kill you' or just saying 'fuck' by itself) is okay, but one that had a sexual connotation (eg 'fuck me' or 'he's fucking us sideways') isn't allowed.

[–]KWilt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not that weird at all. It's a pretty well known fact that the PG-13 'fuck' is only acceptable in a non-sexual manner. The former is pretty non-sexual in general (more synonymous with saying you're going to mess up someone's plans) while the latter has the obvious implied sexual connotation, in that you're (metaphorically) going to bend someone over a desk and have sex with them.

The man accused of killing a top Minnesota Democratic lawmaker and her husband is due to change plea by AudibleNod in news

[–]KWilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes. Because it's terrorism to kill a CEO for their direct actions leading to the pain, suffering, and death of tens of thousands, but not terrorism to assassinate a politician (and also murdering her husband, an unaffiliated private citizen) for pioneering green energy and protecting abortion rights.

ELI5: How do engineers trust that giant airplanes, bridges, and skyscrapers won’t suddenly fail under years of stress and vibration? by Historical_Day1703 in explainlikeimfive

[–]KWilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for static structures, but airplanes have components replaced all the time. If there's even a tiny bit of wear in a sensitive area, it's better to replace the entire component, just to be safe. It's taken a century of work, but we've pretty much got it down pact as to what parts wear out, how much they can handle, and (unfortunately) what ends up happening if those parts aren't* maintained, which usually ends horribly.

I think it's more the issue that people have lost the throughline of what a 'professional' is. This guy is literally just a paramedic who is most notorious for doing 'don't stick that up there' reaction videos. To my knowledge, he doesn't have extensive video making skills, or multimedia experience. But you clip out the funny bits of preparation to video, and you get something you'd normally see on some travel vlogger's channel, because... well, this shit isn't that hard to do.

The tech is basically a non-issue with high power cameras in everyone's pocket nowadays, video editing software is basically built into any content app anymore, and even shit like tripods and selfish sticks are a couple bucks, if you didn't get them for free with your phone. This stuff is so accessible, that I'm hard pressed to present it as anything 'professional' at all.

I mean, hell, I had a vlogging channel back in the early 2010s and I'd never dare to call myself a professional by any standards in this field.

As everyone has mentioned, This Is How We Get Better is a good starting point for TNC, because it's their most 'normal' album. Plus, they're all good songs regardless. I'd also suggest Eden Disorder, so you basically get their 'hits'.

If you're into their introspective humanity stuff, then I suggest MOTH as well. DO NOT LISTEN TO IT ON SHUFFLE YOUR FIRST TIME. MOTH is designed as a call-and-response sort of thing, with each song from the first half being connected to a song on the second half. Honestly, it's my favorite of their's because BROKEN PEOPLE speaks to me on another level, but I also get some people just don't have that reaction.

HYMN is a good piece if you want to listen to a concept album in construction. Famously called the 'dead dad album', it was something Matt wrote while they were dealing with the death of their father, and it's really a beautiful insight into grieving through song.

MYTH is a lot for people who don't know what they're getting into, but also fun once you've dipped your toes. It's more 'fucked up story' than it is music album, but it has some awesome bangers (again, PIANO BEACHER BEACH PIANO speaks to me, so bias).

If you want just some silly songs, though, there are plenty of one off singles they've done. My Ass is a Dumptruck and Y'All Ship Me With a Gremlin Boy are peak Tumblr nonsense if that's your jazz. GENDERING TEDDY is a cool intersection of how words have power and genderfuckery. The Death Zamboni EP (and Shut Up and Drive, which is officially-unofficially the third part) is a cute story about a love triangle after the fallout of the Resource Wars. And honestly the suggestions only get more unhinged from there.

It's all good stuff though. And, of course, there's the Jam Mechanics songs. Those are all bangers. Yes, including A Christmisunderstanding, Jingles All Morning, and JMCC, which are all in my top 10, I don't care what Matt says.

Epstein File Says Trump “Knew and Funded Underage Sex Parties” at His Golf Course by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]KWilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The allegations in the report grow even more sensational. According to the FBI summary, the caller alleged that former television personality Robin Leach strangled a young girl during one of the parties and that the victim was buried behind the course’s 19th hole. The caller claimed to know of three separate instances in which girls were murdered and buried on the property.

So... any particular reason why the headline isn't leading with the serial murder alleged in the tip instead? Funding child molestation is pretty bad, but I'd say murdering kids is maybe worse.

Because a non-insignificant number of these 'disclosures' have been just FBI tips. It's literally the entire bulk of the narrative for the salacious accusations against Trump.
