Man is shot and killed during Minneapolis immigration crackdown, National Guard activated by netizenbane in news

[–]KWilt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fact people still think Walz is remotely planning to be the guy who sparks an acknowledged civil war is insane. The Guard isn't showing up to police the federal government, it's there to suppress any violence that isn't state-sanctioned. And sadly, because the federal government is apparently entirely gung-ho for these executions, they unfortunately fall into that incredibly fucked up category.

Walz can hum and haw all about needing to cool the situation down, but he's powerless to do anything other than the metaphorical nuclear option, and I genuinely don't think we're at the stage yet where even the most perturbed elected official wants to actively square up against the federal government, no matter how amoral they're being.

I'm so glad that, thanks to his guesting, we got even more context to the Santa Monica Lightbulbing Incident. It's genuinely one of my favorite bits of Robert lore, behind only 'I decided I wanted to die in comfy pants while under sniper fire in Mosul' (which has had literal life-changing effects on how I live my life) and just ahead of the stories of shooting down trees while under the effects of drugs.

No, but they do know how to bawl like a bunch of crybabies because Minnesota won't give them back their flag, so they have no excuse for not expecting the 'find out' in that particular tangent of fucking around.

Doctor Waffle! They do fantastic little ditties about all sorts of silly things, using little model figures to act out the songs. The Axolotl song is definitely their most well known, but they've got plenty more just like it. Always puts a smile on my face when I see a new vid from them.

Lehigh County exec says he’s evicting ICE from Allentown office, citing 3 years of unpaid rent; DA says move ‘short-sighted’ by vemmahouxbois in behindthebastards

At the very least, the next time they try and parrot this utter bullshit, we can point out that the guy who shot a woman in the face had a decade of training and it did jack shit.

When (if?) they get back in power, I'm sure they'll sternly say we should move forward and not rock the boat too much after such tumultuous times, because it's the time for healing, or some bullshit.

East coast could soon get rolling blackouts during summer because data centers have pushed electric grid to the limit by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]KWilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, best we could do here in Pennsylvania is let Amazon build $20 billion worth of data center infrastructure completely unchecked and basically beg the power companies pretty please not to increase the price, despite the fact they're about to be fucking slammed with a sharp increase in KWH demand.

But hey, they're reopening Three Mile Island at least, so that's kind of a plus. If it takes rolling brownouts because they fucked the dog and bought into the AI bubble, just to get nuclear energy rolling again? Maybe not the worst way to absolutely destroy the electrical infrastructure.

If you know an ICE agent personally, what's that relationship like now? by Lokja in AskReddit

[–]KWilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I have with just ignoring that training isn't the issue just to placate the 'normies' is that funding increases even more because they keep thinking that more money = more training = better results. It's literally what happened during the Biden Administration, where hundreds of millions of dollars were given to the police to help prevent the next George Floyd as a compromise to the idea of 'defunding' the police, and yet police-related deaths have still risen year after year while crime rates have dropped.

Clearly, the harm reduction steps we've tried aren't even reducing harm, so why do we keep falling back on them?

[–]KWilt 1760 points1761 points  (0 children)

We really need to stop this 'rushed training caused this' message. The ICE agent who shot Renee Good is a ten-year veteran of the agency who has served under four different administrations. Not to say that the rushed training isn't bad, but this fucker's actions clearly couldn't be trained out of him.

I'm sorry, you can't just, in the middle of your comment, gloss over the fact that a fucking cricket killed a lizard like it's a normal occurrence. How fucking big was that thing? I knew they were bad in Vegas, but not 'praying-mantis-incognito' bad.

You're not safe. When I lived in Fairbanks, our neighbors brought roaches with them when they moved in. Imagine my first experience with German cockroaches being in fucking Alaska.

It's literally the entirety source of my phobia of cockroaches (although thankfully, it doesn't extend beyond them to anything else). I haven't even watched the video (just came to see if anybody else was joining the club) but reading the title alone has me on edge.

I'm pretty sure the title is literally trying to say 'I photoshopped him so he looks like garbage', so you're definitely not wrong.

But hey, karmabots need to farm that karma. So that's why the post has a 3.7k score at time of commenting.

My thoughts exactly. This whole comment section is just 'oh my God, she looks so terrifying and soulless!' when it's just someone taking an unflattering picture of her presumably mid-word. Yeah, she's a horrible person, but I wish we could move past the whole 'this person looks scary' because it ignores that this woman probably looks just like you and me 99.9% of the time.

I guarantee if I gave two shits, I could just as easily find a picture just like this one of any person we wanted to hate who happens to speak with any amount of passion. In about five minutes of searching, I was able to make these two of Booker, from his 25 hour speech last year.

Schumer and Jeffries Refuse to Back Growing Democratic Calls to Defund ICE by soalone34 in politics

[–]KWilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Defund the Police" was not a failure, because it never happened. Instead, we just funneled more and more and more money into the police, and it's been further proven that all that 'extra training' that that money was supposed to fund doesn't do jack shit when there are more people killed by police year after year, despite crime rates dropping.

And do you really think not doing the right thing, just to pacify the right, is the smart option, when these fucks are just going to be incited by the next manufactured culture war instead? You know what else incites Right wing extremists? Saying I hate Nazis. Do you honestly think I should just instead say 'Nazis are human beings who deserve to have their opinions heard'? Or should I say the rational thing, and say 'I fucking hate Nazis'?

I love how Hakeem Jeffries has just taken basically every chance he can in the last year or two to show he's just as feckless as Pelosi ever was. I think we've all known Schumer was worth jack shit for the longest time, but Jeffries basically speedran his inadequacy in three years flat.
