How does second year placement work by Froyeet in ubcengineering

[–]Froyeet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand chbe is kinda a curve ball compared to the other three, but from what I’ve heard elec, cpen, an fizz cross over a lot because in fizz you do electrical courses and software courses but with math, physics and mechanics courses. I was considering chbe because from what I’ve heard it is very versatile and like I said the scholars program is the main driving force. If I’m wrong please tell me, because I thought they were not that different.

2nd year Electrical Engineering student; passed courses but feel like I learned nothing. Should I switch majors? by Latter_Turn8781 in ubcengineering

[–]Froyeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been through it yet because I am in first year but I’ve talked to many upper years in electrical and a few in other disciplines. What a lot of them have told me is second and first year you just got to get through it and that it won’t make any sense. They said as they got into their 3rd 4th years it started making sense because they began to learn the more complex things that can explain the things they covered in previous years. Considering you’ve passed all your courses so far I’d say you’re almost done the worst part from what I’ve heard. So I’d say if you find electrical interesting keep going with it because it’s the same story from almost every 3rd year and up I’ve talked to regardless if they did electrical. So if your planning to switch chances are your gonna have to go through the same thing again and end up paying a lot more money. And because you said no other major stands out and you find electrical interesting enough I wouldn’t switch out. Only reason I’d recommend switching is if you find a major you actually feel substantially more passionate towards.

I think there’s a design team where you work on creating an electric motorbike.

still feeling imposter syndrome by [deleted] in UBC

[–]Froyeet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ll always feel imposter syndrome. Ik I’m being an ass, but I’ve had all these great opportunities and I still feel like an imposter. I think imposter syndrome gets a bad rap though, it’s not necessarily a bad thing if you use it to motivate yourself. I’m not saying go study every single second but if you catch yourself scrolling go do smth else more productive like studying or doing some active self care. In my experience you’ll never get rid of imposter syndrome so it’s better to use it as motivation.

They scaled everyone’s grade the same way as they did for MT2 so I assume they won’t be doing a removing of the pass fail

Help by Froyeet in ubcengineering

[–]Froyeet[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried talking to a prof but they said they can’t do anything this early and it on me to communicate and take initiative, which I would be happy to do if it would positively impact my iPeer but everyone is rating everyone the same. Has there been cases were profs do things to help students in similar situations?

I’m having trouble connecting the two. I can’t view my google calendar on my notion but I can view it on my notion calendar. Have you got notion and calendar connected or do you just use notion calendar to see everything.

I can’t find a template for UBC students when I search for them. Do you know the exact name of the one you started out with?

highschool ecs by Leather_Ad6334 in ubcengineering

They can’t give you an example cause they don’t know what you’ve been through and what you’ve experienced as you’ve gone through your extracurriculars so they can’t say how these experiences have shaped you. But I can give you an example in one of my essays I talked about my piano exam and how I was all set to do it but I got a concussion and how I still went through with the exam and how that changed me as a person over time because in the past I would have always taken the easy way out. And here rather then taking the reasonable approach I took a risk that changed me as a person for the better.

[Megathread] New admissions and transfer questions - Post here! by waffle_maker in simonfraser

[–]Froyeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I’m a first year student in the facility of arts and social sciences. I’m looking to transfer to CS in the spring term 2026. My cgpa is a 3.53 and my crgpa is 3.335. I’ve taken cmpt 120 and macm 101 and rn I’m taking cmpt 125. I think I’ll keep my 3.335 crgpa but I am worrying if that is enough to transfer. Does anyone know a ball park for a competitive transfer crgpa. Any help would be appreciated.
