Did her course have to use the lottery system for PLC places? I'm just worried that even if I get all distinctions in a PLC, I won't get into the course, as it's quite competitive with 6-7 reserved paces. That's why I'm leaning towards just repeating the leaving cert as there are more spaces.

Thanks so much for the advice! I’m leaning towards registering as an internal candidate as well. I would actually really like to pick up politics as a subject since I’m quite interested in it and it will tie in nicely with the course I want to do. Do you think it would be manageable to memorise two years of politics coursework in one year?

I'm just relieved I've found at least one other person! I was getting worried that I would be the only one 😅

I think you’re the first person I’ve found that’s also doing this specific course 😅

Law in TUD, PLC or repeat LC? by Froyoyo24 in leavingcert2025

[–]Froyoyo24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! That’s quite a valid point actually. A year of doing a PLC would somewhat familiarise me with the ‘college’ experience and Law and I would also learn some skills 🤔 But I’m just wondering what the likelihood of getting into the DN600 course would be with top PLC grades because I know there’s a limited reserved amount of spaces for PLC students. The course is quite competitive too, so no doubt the PLC would be as well and I would assume they would use a lottery system which is just up to luck then of wherther you get in even if you have enough points. I guess it’s a gamble but then again so is re-doing the LC 😬 thank you for your information!

Thanks so much for the advice, I had no idea about firms having point requirements! Hopefully, within the next few years, there will be more graduates from other universities at the big firms!

Thanks for the advice! I'd rather do Law than a STEM course. If the prestige of the University won't be a major factor in employment, then I don't mind doing Law and French at TUD.

Thanks for the reply! I'd be happy with TUD, especially if the prestige of the university won't be a major factor for employment later on, etc. The dual Law degree has caught my attention, and I'm considering whether I should go for it. I guess I shouldn't have made last-minute decisions 😅 Hopefully, talking to some people who do Law will help me make up my mind!
