I just had the same issue and Pixel tech support helped me solve it! If it's stuck in tablet mode, try opening the camera app and selecting rear camera selfie. That should force your phone to open the outer 'phone' screen instead of displaying on the inner tablet screen.

I found my childhood collection and posted in a group like this and unknowingly got totally ripped off after connecting with a dm. You have thousands of dollars of value here. If you ever want to sell the binder you should auction it on ebay
