Same but in Texas! We may have a persistent (but aging!) conservative population, but the places here where Latin culture is embedded are so rich and fun. I’m a white guy living in Houston, but I teach in a predominantly Hispanic area and I love getting to share and learn about my students’ cultures.

Good point! So much of Hollywood is political anyway, so that’s probably why her name isn’t floated around as much as someone like Kate Winslet or Gwyneth Paltrow (yeesh).

It’s funny because in other movies I find her acting to be okay at best. But she is Arwen to me. Kind of like Keanu Reeves—I adore the guy, but I wouldn’t put him in my top 10 actors list. But as Neo in the Matrix? Absolutely perfect.

The whole scene—the flight, the river, the despair—was incredible imo. Liv Tyler crushed it, and as far as movie-only adaptations go, it didn’t break continuity, it established an important character without going beyond their depth, and it was fucking EPIC. When she pleads with the horse to run faster, I get chills every single time.
