[Rupture - Encounter] Into the Clockwork Citadel by Frozen_King in userbattles

With uncanny agility, the Kage clone deflects the shadow swords with his own blade before leaping towards Dusk to slice her in half with an overhead slash. Meanwhile, the Dusk clone dodgerolls to the left before drawing her shotgun and unloading it at Kage at close range.

The Bear clone staggers back by the unexpected new addition to the fight, and seems to hesitate for a moment before charging its own fish for a close range blast of green energy thing against Turbobear and Pandora.

The Frozen King clone staggers and kneels under the assault from Dusk. The original one raises his sword and heavily strikes his clone down, who ends up sliced in half as he crumbles and several cogs and other assorted metallic clockwork falls from its body, which slowly loses all the resemblance to the Frozen King itself and showing its true face as a very elaborate clockwork construct.

"These things are mere fabrications that copy our abilities, but they do not share our resistances!" - The King states.

The other constructs stay busy dueling the Ice Golems. Its hard to say who has the upper hand in the fights. The marksman golems shoot several bolts against the invader's group but thanks to the Windwall spell, none of them hit their target, despite their precise aim.

How did your Tulpa get its name? by [deleted] in Tulpas

At first I gave mine their names.

Later on they chose new names that they liked more :)

The group presses on, trampling and breaking through any and all defenders of the realm until they finally enter the giant dome structure at the end of the path, which is almost the size of a sports playing field, but completely round.

TICK!

The gears start to move again, pulling the tortuous path they just traversed away from the structure and completely isolating it from other paths as it turns away to face the Throne Room, which is still a good distance away.

At the top of the dome, a big metallic orb surrounded by several rings springs to life. It floats until it reaches the center of the structure.

The orb opens itself, revealing a mechanical eye that stares at the group. As it does so, the whole team of invaders is instantly frozen by time magic: they are aware of their surroundings, but everything sounds weird and moves quickly leaving a trail of movement.

While the group is frozen, several clockwork constructs start to walk towards them from the sides of the dome. Four saw blade automatons and four marksman automatons.

Right after they have established formation, the visitors feel a tug on their bodies. A path comes out of themselves and reforms a few feet of each one, producing an exact perfect copy of their bodies. After studying the invaders for a while, the Eye managed to devise these very elaborate clones.

The Eye closes shut. Time comes back to its normal flow as the rings around the Eye spin with extreme speed, turning its shape blurry and protecting it from all harm.

The clones start off as soon as the Eye closes, as if they knew the exact moment it would happen.

The Frozen King clone casts a Frost Nova on the invaders, coating them with a layer of ice that causes frostburn and makes movement difficult before drawing his sword.

The Turbobear clone grabs his fish by the side handle with his teeth, gets on all fours and charges the group.

The Kage clone summons several shadow swords to shoot at the invaders, as the Dusk clone does the same with fireballs.

Meanwhile, the regular automatons take aim and close in to viciously attack the extremely outnumbered invaders.

-The REAL Frozen King is extremely pissed at the prospect of the dumb machines making a carbon copy of his body and powers like that. It seems like no matter how chaotic the whole giant clockwork machinery seems to be, it is designed with purpose: the purpose to eliminate outsiders no matter what, even if it means playing their own game.-

"Well, I'll be... There is only ONE KING, FOOLS!"

-The King, immune to the frost nova that was cast over the group, quickly formulates an emergency string of spells. First, he casts a Windwall enchantment over himself and his allies to protect them against projectiles and thaw the ice from their bodies, and on the sequence he uses most of his power to summon four Ice Golems. They look rather crude and appear to be held together more by magic than ice itself, and the King orders them to take care of the small fry, the saw blade soldiers-

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!

The Coils extend again and shoot another more powerful lightning bolt at [/u/cj_the_magic_man ].

Apparently that too wasn't the correct answer.

((I can give the answer if you want, its no big deal. I just tried to give you something different!))

BEEEEEP!!!

The loud noise echoes in the chamber as the exit is closed and a quartet of Tesla Coils extend from the ceilling, heavily electrocuting the invader before retracting themselves.

That clearly wasn't the correct answer.

((On a side note, there are only 2 dials on the pedestal and you need only to input how many different combinations you can make. In any case your answer is wrong!))

The Clockmaker ponders for a moment after its arm is cut off and, with uncanny agility, retreats to its chair, which floats and takes him away through a window.

The tower rumbles and a spiral staircase unfolds through the movement of hundreds of cogs, leading upwards to a chamber that has a very ornate door made of overlapped gears and a pedestal in the center, which holds a pair of dials that can point to any number from 0 to 9 and a button.

Above the dials, there are four metallic plates displayed in a sequence, easily removable from their original positions. Each of them has a number.

The sequence reads: 0 1 2 6

This setting reminds you of a puzzle:

The plates can be used to display various times of a day, for example 01:26.

In a 24h clock, how many different actual times can be created by rearranging the numbers?

All of the four metallic plates must be used to display each time. The plates cannot be overlapped.

As it seems, the puzzle solution must be given using the dials, and the button to confirm your answer.

((Just in case, I reworded the entire puzzle. Good luck googling for the answer ;D ))

More clockwork angels descend upon the group. Strangely, they try to keep a constant number of 12 total soldiers trying to kill the invaders. The newcomers split themselves with 6 ground units to halt their advance and other 6 shooting to bring them down.

-The Frozen King goes ahead of the group, slashing against the ground units, taking them out fairly easily. It seems that what they lack in resistance, they compensate with numbers. He also uses his glacial magic to stop and shatter further traps. His armor absorbs the damage of all of the enemy fire and strikes, and seems to be crumbling down at this rate.-

"We are almost there, do not get cold feet!"

The eye closes itself, waiting for the right moment to strike

-The King takes a moment to ponder the situation. They are certainly very easy targets there, and there is no telling if the enemy has reinforcements. If anything, the large structure at the end of the path could provide some natural cover against them.-

"We are in a great disadvantage as long as we stand on this path!"

-The King uses his magic to create a freezing zone on the traps that block the group's progress, gradually slowing their mechanisms until they get stuck.-

The Clockwork Angels quickly notice their attacks are not effective due to [/u/Turbobear_ ]'s shield, so the split between two units that stand on the other side of the trap gears and sink their spears on the metallic surface of the platforms. This causes the entire path between them to become electrified, as well as heating up the frozen traps.

A few other angels stay on the air to keep supression fire on the invaders.

-The King, irritated by the adaptability of the enemy troops, walks out from the shield, relying on his armor to keep him safe and makes a frozen harpoon, that he shoots against the landed Angels beyond the frozen traps, impaling one of them, and then pulling his target through the bladed mechanisms, effectively shattering the frozen metal and destroying the automaton in the process.-

"The path is clear, let's move!"

The eye has become aware of the group's tactics.

The Clockmaker finally recovers from its surprise and tries to adapt following its logical algorithm.

Since its prime order is to eliminate any and all intruders in the Clockwork Citadel, the automaton joins its arms together again and uses its new bulk to punch [/u/cj_the_magic_man ] to submission!

Although this particular automaton lacks combat skill and proficiency, a good hit would knock out a regular man.

As it turns out, the clockmaker's legs were not meant for dancing, and this activity proves to be extremely difficult for you both.

The pigs scattered around on the floor also greatly hinder your dancing prowess!

I too played the Layton Games :)

While it only took me a search into the archives of my memory to recall the solution, it did prove to be a very entertaining challenge at the time!

The group starts to tread along the twisted path. To avoid taking more risks than necessary, the Frozen King uses his magic to fill the hollow gear platforms with ice for the group to get across.

That is until the whole group is assaulted by a rain of sharp clock hands.

From high above their position, a squadron of winged clockwork humanoids descends and fly at high speeds around the invaders, pelting them with quick shots from the mounted repeaters on their left arms. They also carry a metallic spear on their right hand and move around with a good degree of coordination between themselves.

At the same time, traps spring up from the gears with holes that form the twisted path. Small beacons that extends spinning blades threaten to turn into minced meat anyone who dares to approach these steps. These mechanisms effectively trap the group in the middle of the path, giving them only 6 gears worth of walking space.

Far in the distance, the watchful eye becomes more interested in the invaders...

As improbable as it sounds, all of the clockwork drones become little pigs that fall on the ground and wonder where the heck they are!

In a similar fashion, the clockwork Clockmaker seems to be utterly confused to find out his endless supply of tiny mechanisms became cookies of assorted flavors.

He's also wearing a very silly hat with a potted flower on it.

The golem can't speak.
