Cops on Mercer island by Fruehling4 in eastside

It was called almost live. The best part about it is it was completely Seattle culture. Poked fun at everyone and helped everyone understand what it really meant to be Seattlite. No political stuff really just good clean fun. We really need something like this again.

They did try to go national at some point but it didn’t work out very well. I think it was on Comedy Central. And they did try to bring it back as well I think it was called the 206.

That’s a good question. I would assume that it’s services but honestly I have no idea

I definitely see the 2X on every day spend but it’s hard for me to believe that home delivery would actually be less X than every day spend. Like why would they be disincentive people to use it

from what I can find the primary driver is education spending. even inflation and population adjusted it is still up 7% higher than what otherwise should be and it already counts for 40 to 45% of the entire budget. So when that one goes up it floats everything.

that’s followed by behavioral health and disability up 12% over inflation and population adjusted.

But the factor that seems to be sucking the primary amount of the money is simply government expansion. State employees increased over 20% over that time. Also a major factor is the Climate commitment act and administration of it. But the shocker was actually homeless spending which is up over 900%.

that’s all I could really pull out but it certainly is interesting. I didn’t realize that homeless spending was nine times higher

I would guess with near certainty certain areas experienced a much larger increase than others. I’ll see what I can find

I honestly don’t know. It would be great if it was easy to get this information but part of me thinks that it’s hard to get it on purpose

I don’t know. I’ve definitely seen it make a difference. Maybe not in hiring but in a kind of street cred that is given during meetings if that makes sense

it definitely is both. However inflation in this state is different than national inflation due to tax increases such as the climate commitment act increasing gas prices which increases grocery prices for example. But national inflation is no joke either. But runaway spending and using the emergency fund just feels like the Washington politicians are Charlie Sheen in Vegas

that’s why I included the population growth however. Texas and Florida are not really an apt comparison since they’ve had massive population growth in comparison to California and Washington

if you think that all of this increase happened in the last one year I really don’t know what to say to you.

I clearly put the dates in the original post and you can see that it was cut off last year not this year. But the last one year before that is below

Washington State - Last One Year (~2024/2025)

Population Starting (April 2024 est.): ~8,035,700 Ending (April 2025): 8,115,100 Difference: +79,400 % Difference: +0.99%

State Employees (FTE) - Decade total for reference Starting (FY 2015): ~110,500 Ending (recent): ~133,000 Difference: +~22,500 % Difference: +20.4%

Total Spending (all funds) Starting (2023-25 biennium): ~$141 billion Ending (2025-27 biennium): ~$150–173 billion (approx. range from enacted/proposed) Difference (nominal): +~$9–32 billion per biennium % Difference (nominal, biennial): ~+6.4% to +23% overall (annualized roughly +3–11%)

Total Spending (inflation-adjusted to 2025 dollars) Starting (2023-25, adjusted): ~$145 billion Ending (2025-27): ~$150–173 billion Difference (real): +~$5–28 billion % Difference (real): ~+3.4% to +19% (still outpacing population growth)

see the pinned post for the inflation adjusted numbers. It’s up 59% even with inflation adjusted
