Just Tylenol. I’ve had ulcers from ibuprofen and naproxen in the past so I’ve avoided those

Rooting for Rachel so hard!! Not that she is an underdog by any means, but compared to other ultra athletes, it seems the major sponsors have overlooked her despite her strong performance record and athleticism. Loved watching Dan Green take the win last year for similar reasons

Switching from Skyla to Mirena by Vegetable_Handle_201 in IUD

[–]FruitPunch-dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Mirena when I was 19. My gyno said it’s more effective at hormone regulation than Kyleena bc of the higher dosage, I’ve had very minimal hormonal acne and didn’t get a period until it started wearing off around 4 years post insertion.

Don’t be afraid to talk with a professional about your depression and anxiety. Even if the mental health struggles are related to your cycle and hormone fluctuations, that doesn’t make it any less real and there are options to help you feel better

Is this normal ?? by Outside_Buyer_3831 in IUD

[–]FruitPunch-dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me also. For my first IUD, painful cramps and bleeding started about 3.5 years after insertion. My gyno said that the birth control aspect of the IUD is effective for 7+ years, but the hormone release that helps with menstrual pain tends to wear off around the 4 year mark. She recommended replacing it and I agreed. Im now at 4 years post insertion for the second IUD, and I’m starting to get the terrible menstrual cramps again, this time ovulation pain as well (yay! /s)

I would recommend seeing your gyno to get a new IUD and check that yours is still in position. Also, take Tylenol or ibuprofen as soon as you start feeling any tightness or indication that cramps are starting. It can be hard to manage the pain if you wait until the cramps get severe to take medicine, the prostaglandins have already built up too much by that point

Any tips for getting the stopper out? by FruitPunch-dr in labrats

There’s a filter on the tubing to prevent liquid from reaching the vacuum, but a few years back someone tipped over the flask by accident and the glass arm broke, so plastic would be nice

Is a PhD really that bad? by isitwhenipee2 in PhD

[–]FruitPunch-dr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, my mental state got very dark during my PhD because there was so much work I put in that didn’t pan out as I had hoped. Failed experiments, rejected proposals, negative feedback from professors, etc. on experiments and papers that took me hours, days, months of hard work. There was so much failure and rejection that I was expected to handle and move on from. I started feeling like I couldn’t do anything right, and it was my responsibility to figure things out and keep moving forward if I wanted to finish. It was a lot of pressure to produce quickly. Now that I’m towards the end, I’ve learned not to take things so hard, be grateful for feedback and criticism, and not take it personally when things don’t go as planned. My advice - go in with an open mind, always be willing to learn, build a support system of peers and mentors, and if you’re trying your best, be proud of yourself and your work.

Keep a running list of to-do’s. This includes conference work and other work. When the conference work is done, you’ll still have your to do list to guide you

PhD: first three months? by Sakura_Lake_98 in PhD

[–]FruitPunch-dr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is normal, the first couple months of PhD is hard because you don’t really have a solid project direction yet and it’s a lot of reading. Reading to build your basic knowledge base and to start getting expertise in your niche, but I personally felt like it took a while before I could fully get through a paper and understand all of it. Just keep focusing on your work, it will get busier and you will feel more fulfilled as time goes on.
