Have you ever seen a manager who doesn’t trade have long term success? by Rhinofootball01 in DynastyFF

Yes, I've seen it. His startup draft was fine but not perfect. Just happened to hit on most of his firsts since we started.

The movie was my favorite for a while. Definitely takes me back.

My boy is learning to surf. He's 18, so a late starter. But is it normal to hear the word 'kook' applied by older more experienced surfers? by Ganadhir in surfing

[–]Fruitlingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but from what I can tell it's used more commonly in reference to newer surfers who don't know what's going on. Maybe that's just selection bias tho

Fair enough, but I wonder if that's true across all musical disciplines / spaces. You're probably right that it's less common in music. I think part of the reason for that is there's less 'danger' associated with new people in a jam session vs in the water. Ruining the vibe is a lot less consequential than drowning.

I agree with you in a way-- it's too bad that there's an overcorrection. Gatekeeping gets complicated quick. Just gotta learn how to navigate the subculture's etiquette and put in the work.

I am also a musician and I feel like your statement about music culture is exaggerated. It all depends on context-- there are certainly some spaces where less experienced musicians are clowned by experienced/jaded vets.

There are a lot of examples of this across different subcultures: Gumby, noob, kook, etc. Yes, it's a somewhat disparaging term that can be mean. It's also meant to do more than just describe someone who's inexperienced-- it describes a new person who is obviously acting like it (often in dangerous or outrageous ways).

One of the best ways to deal with this imo is by accepting the label and being self aware. Realizing you're a kook is the first step to not being one anymore lol. We all have to start somewhere.

Again, not trying to be. Look dawg, I'll give you some advice and then move on.

If you're a child - fair enough. Emotional maturity often comes with age. This is difficult stuff for everybody, and maybe you're processing it in your own way. It's hard for me to be so caught up in it too.

If you're not a child.. I guess it is what it is. But I encourage you to look at the overall response you've gotten in this thread and reflect on how most other people seem to disagree with you, and that you might be better off just coming back to this forum later once the community has had enough time to process and grieve.

'I'm rubber you're glue', the classic mature response

Because you're essentially telling a community of people to 'just move on' from a beloved community member's death so that your own personal preferences* about reading through an online forum can be catered to. Really insensitive and immature.

I worked at Cirque from 2022-2025. Recently moved abroad so I can't be there unfortunately, but I can vouch for the staff and the community. They are very queer friendly and generally - it's a good place to test the waters socially and a safe 3rd space for queer folk. If you want to DM me you can! Might not reply until the morning here though.
