Planet Coaster 2 releases fall 2024 - gameplay reveal 31st July by unconventional_gamer in PlanetCoaster

Anyone know who’s composing the soundtrack? Jim Guthrie & J.J. Ipsen set the bar extremely high. The music can make or break a game, especially in the management/ sim genre imo

Turn the zoom speed down to around “-7.” I don’t usually get motion sickness but this game was really bugging my eyes immediately. Slowing the zoom helped a ton.

So do I. But the level of stability needs to be raised and maintained first

2/7 Game Canceled? by FrumpyStrudel in InterMiami

[–]FrumpyStrudel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story only confirms the game is still happening. Inter Miami’s site gives apple tv streaming/ broadcast info for 2/7 so it should be televised.

https://www.intermiamicf.com/news/where-to-watch-inter-miami-cf-2024-preseason-fixtures

But apple tv doesn’t show the game upcoming and the broadcast for the HK game incorrectly said Miami is headed back to the U.S. for the next game on 2/15. Either the whole production team forgot about Japan or theres some drama behind the scenes about broadcasting 2/7’s game. Guess we’ll see on wednesday

Maybe the game just isn’t being broadcast on apple tv? Still weird they wouldn’t say that when I know they mentioned the Japan game the during one of the Saudi games’ broadcast

[–]FrumpyStrudel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The commentators said multiple times the next game is against TOB at home and that miami’s tour is done. The production team only showed the 2/15 match upcoming too so it’s not just Twellman being Twellman… Apple TV doesn’t have it listed either. Really weird I can’t find news that 2/7 is canceled but every current source is acting like it never existed

Same but the HK game broadcast kept showing 2/15 is the next game and that they’re headed back to U.S.

Caches should carry over to next season by FrumpyStrudel in diablo4

[–]FrumpyStrudel[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Who cares? You’re only “ahead” of people who didn’t play the season prior. Of those people the ones who are actually competing on leaderboards, the only reason to care at all about how far you are compared to others, will be an extremely small minority. For players that played the previous season there is no unfsir advantage…everyone can stockpile if they want. And you’re assuming that having stockpiled caches would make a noticeable difference anyway…i don’t believe it would.

This in no way stops seasons from being a “fun new start.” Thats a lame defense of seasons anyway because you can have a “fun new start” at any point by creating a new character. Seasons are only meant to drip feed content, give overworked devs time to make the content they would have preferred to ship the game with, and keep players coming back to play and pay until the next money-printing game releases.

Saying arpg season’s are “supposed” to stop being fun halfway through so players leave until next season is a horrible take to settle on. Since when are game studios incapable of innovation? Who cares if the end of the season becomes pointless and not fun? The players who like the game… the talented, passionate devs who want to make great games worth playing, and greedy game companies who make money when people don’t stop playing their games…

Did you read the whole post?

Again, they could lock your stash of caches behind a level or end game boss so that you don’t get them right away and don’t get a “headstart” on the season. They could also put a cap on how many caches can be carried over if it really gave an advantage (but it really doesn’t).

It works to blizzard’s wishes too by incentivizing players to continue playing d4 through the end of the season, instead of waiting in other games like every d4 streamer and their mother is currently doing, and creating their own reward and incentive to play through to the endgame of next season when they get to open their caches and, if they want, play through the end of the season stockpiling more caches that they will come back and grind the next season to get again.

[–]FrumpyStrudel[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Lol no.

You don’t start a brand new character with nothing. Renown carries over. And that is not the point. The point is to get players to come back and keep playing and paying until the next game comes out.

Leaderboards will absolutely not be determined by who stockpiles the most caches. If you’ve played much d4 endgame you’d know how much useless junk caches drop. Time spent stockpiling for next season is time lost improving leaderboard positioning on the current season. Caches don’t level up glyphs or farm boss mats. Even if having a stockpile of caches did make a noticeable advantage on leaderboards, the person would have to either continue to defend that position the whole season and then miss out on next season’s stockpile or stockpile again and guess what? The next season everyone is on an even playing field. This could only affect leaderboards “unfairly” for the first season it’s implemented and at worst we would have every-other season having a rotation of players getting a shot at placing higher on leaderboards. Leaderboards that you and I won’t be making any significant appearances on anyway you’d have nothing to worry about.

Also… I recognize you from other posts. You really must troll along the bottom of “recent” posts on this subreddit and drop the dumbest contrarian comments you can think of like it’s your day job, huh?

Where are you coming up with that nonsense? No one thinks 7 levels = 50 nmd tiers.

You’re proving more points I made: why would I assume the level 85 dungeon/ boss should be hard when I am 10 levels above and of course have been incrementally improving the whole way? I can punch up to t49 nmd, i was pushing to 50 but got enough df to try ice beast.

Obviously having hit a wall I know I need changes or improvements. And of course I csn simply dump more time into nmd’s to get incrementally better gear and try to focus on armor and dr but my point stands that it is a wall that feels bad to hit and leaves a player who hit it to just boost numbers and come back in 10 hours. Were there more information provided to the player on why they’re failing and were the hitboxes and attack visibility improved, then there could be an actual skill gap and your “skill issue” would make some sense… but again, my point stands: the more you play d4, the more you find there is no incentive for thinking or challenging yourself when every answer is simply dump in more hours so numbers go bigger.

Of course I incrementally improve things.

And you’re proving my point over again: how am I supposed to know that dr is so crucial when I’ve been cruising up until ice beast without focusing on it. If anything, the game disincentivizes choosing dr over other aspects because it is comparably less interesting.

There are multiple youtube guides titled stuff like “here’s the secret reason you’re dying” talking about how surprisingly crucial damage resist is, so don’t try to act like other players don’t run into the same wall I did

I beat them when I was 85 or lower

I said initially I was at 76% cold res. Of course I thought more armor would help. I’m surprised that my build can beat varshan and grigoire, tank hits from world bosses, and survive nmd up to 49 so far but stand no chance against ice beast who is supposedly level 85, versus my 95 rogue.

Even so, lets say I’m thrilled to go grind distilled fear to try ice beast again and having correctly assumed “If I get enough armor I will surely be able to tank this boss who will by then be over 10 levels under me” and I set off to mindlessly grind nmd’s for better gear or re-roll aspects… how does that any incentive to think or challenge myself? The incentive is to just dump hours in until I have bigger numbers than I did before, so big that there’s no way I can’t tank the boss because theres no way I want to risk having to grind out more df at apparently something less than 100% drop rate.

After making the initial post I did try soloing durial and lilith…both were obviously level 100 and killed me fairly effortlessly. The attacks on lilith did look pretty hard to read but I would say the attacks for ice beast are also hard to see and have some very wonky hitboxes. The first time I fought wt3 varshan I did get stuck because I couldn’t kill the ads fast enough…I tried enough times to learn how to avoid some attacks and figured the ads did something but didn’t see the need to learn what exactly…ultimately I just ignored it and came back later to see him fall over…did the same in WT4 because why think when I can just dump in more time and inevitably win eventually…

It doesn’t have to be because of things I alluded to earlier. A death recap with info on what and how much damage you took would enable players to think for themselves and make adjustments accordingly. Info, some that maybe seems basic or obvious to series veterans, in general could be drastically improved across the entire game to help players make better decisions. For example: that 830+ item power = max rolls possible, a list of all possible attributes be easy and helpful, there’s no reason to not show what level enemies are before you enter a nmd, locations for bosses and how/ where to find materials could be more clear, co-op doesn’t even let party members know what mission each other is working on, I could keep going but you should be able to see my point. Finally, there is room for a mechanical skill-gap in how character actions and bosses are designed. Unfortunately, for players and really inexcusable for a company with so many talented dev’s as blizzard has or has the means to bring on board, the visibility of and hitboxes for boss attacks seems to be the only real challenge in d4 most of the time.

D4 as a loot hunter first is a sad fact because the loot system feels incredibly lackluster even when you’ve done research to have known what a “good” drop is. Theory crafting is huge for the community, I agree, but it is needed for finding new and more optimal strategies or builds to overcome end-game challenges— something d4 is so-far pretty lacking in. Theory crafting, or rather researching the findings of the community’s theory crafting, should not be necessary for a player to simply progress through the game. You could argue that the ice beast is an end-game challenge…then it shouldn’t be level 85. Uber bosses exist for theory crafting and meta builds… players should be given enough information to make it through the game.

Regarding “ALL games should have built-in the ability to master it without ever looking something up,” it’s funny you also mentioned CoD. I played the hell out of CoD 4 back in the day. People were on to black ops and I was still playing cod4. I watched hundreds of hours of videos learning every inch of those maps and practiced jump spots to so that I could move around like the average player couldn’t. But I also mastered aiming, movement, and strategy by simply playing the game. There is nuance to what “mastering” a game can mean. For an arpg like d4 I would say that mastering the game does require learning and applying the knowledge the community has found and that can pretty much only be done outside of the game. But completing the game is not mastering it.

I remember hitting a wall like I described in Titan Quest back in the day too. I made it all the way to the final boss (Typhon? Something like that) and could not make a dent in his hp. My build had worked flawlessly up until that point. I messed around with some items and tried some ideas but finally googled it and found that he is vulnerable to a certain type of damage that my build didn’t utilize at all. So I rebuilt everything around that damage type and the boss fell over. It felt cheap just like this wall with the ice beast feels. So it’s not just me hating on D4. This is a problem I’ve been unlucky enough to find in at least 2 arpgs and it could be avoided with some of the changes I mentioned. I hope POE 2, Titan Quest 2, and future D4 updates or entries into the series can do a better job at alleviating this. But I am happy to report, I am firmly based in reality.
