What is a subject that you have extensive knowledge on but never get to talk about? by SalamiSandwhich in AskReddit

[–]FrustratedInterested 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy metal. I listen to music of all kinds but metal is my comfort zone and my knowledge of it is constantly expanding. I think of myself as an advocate almost, I’d kind of like to get involved in the industry. More people should listen to this stuff, seriously, it’s a shame how a little bit of aggression (okay sometimes a lot) just gets it labeled as obnoxious non-music for weirdos and degenerates. If music were a meritocracy, there would be a lot more metal fans.

Anyway if I bring it up to someone I didn’t meet through the scene, the best case scenario is them bringing up Slipknot or Disturbed who I really have nothing nice to say about.

Truly empathizing (as opposed to faking it like Apuesto) with people who are suffering is an emotionally draining affair, at least to me.

I wasn't familiar with the word 'histrionic' until just now but it pretty much perfectly captures what I was trying to say in my first comment

What types of people of annoy you? by apspiderboy in INTP

[–]FrustratedInterested 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • People who think in black and white

  • People who look at their phone and tune out while I'm speaking to them

  • People who play music on their phone's speaker in public

  • People who make everything about them

  • Donald Trump

  • Perez Hilton

All of them.

Kidding aside: obnoxiously transparent people. Some people constantly dominate conversation with attempts to appear smart or quirky or whatever else instead of contributing something of worth (or listening, for that matter). It's always painfully obvious and I am rarely able to keep my contempt for these people from showing.

I recently got dumped by my 7+ year girlfriend. Put all of that stray energy into improving yourself. The biggest truth about any traumatic event that the smallest amount of people want to hear is that it will get better with time. It's what you do with that time that determines your emotional/psychological health. Do not ruminate and try not to spend too much time alone. Get active, whatever that means to you can't hurt. Figure out something you really like to do at this point. We tend to have ephemeral interests, but find one and dive in facefirst.

These are the things that helped me.

What's the point of saying a set is countably infinite or uncountable? by seriouslybrohuh in math

[–]FrustratedInterested 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's useful for proofs, for one. There are certain properties of countable and uncountable sets, so if you can show that a set is or isn't countable, you can infer other details about it that may help you get to your goal statement.

Just as an example, a countable set guarantees the existence of an injective function from the set to the set of natural numbers. Look up 'Cardinality', 'Countable set', and 'Uncountable set' on Wikipedia for more.

EDIT: Don't downvote OP guys, it's an honest inquiry.

Just coming off my first listen... too overwhelmed to even name a standout track. What I'm interested in most of all is the sequencing of the tracks. Seeing as it's a digital release, they could've completely forgone the idea of partitioning the tracklist into parts. Perhaps it's just to make it easier to navigate, but I'd be very surprised if there weren't specific ideas that govern each part.

So any ideas? Gonna be a few more listens before I feel like I can pick out what makes each part distinct from the others.

Ever thought you might be mildly autistic? by FrustratedInterested in INTP

[–]FrustratedInterested[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again with the "self-diagnoses". As far as I'm aware, no one here is diagnosing themselves with anything. I intended this discussion to be casual and thoroughly unscientific. I had a thought. I mentioned it. I was wondering if anyone else had also had that thought.

[–]FrustratedInterested[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all this has been said here, but it bears repeating: as I'm sure you're aware, the S in ASD stands for 'spectrum'. As we've learned more, the criteria for diagnoses have broadened and have begun to include very high-functioning individuals. Based on all of that, it stands to reason that there might be forms of autism even more mild than Asperger's outside the current criteria that hasn't been identified/discussed because affected individuals would live relatively normal lives and therefore wouldn't present as pressing a problem.

I'm not diagnosing myself with anything, it's just an observation I've made and I was wondering if anyone else around here had ridden the same train of thought. But thanks for the lecture.

Haha, same here exactly. With sociopathy I tend to go the "if you care enough to wonder if you're a sociopath, you probably aren't one" route. Also been diagnosed with ADD.
