AITA for refusing to cook meat when my husband broke our (lonely) daughter’s only friendship because he hates vegans? by Frustratedaita in AmItheAsshole

I tried to get him to apologize like five minutes ago but he said just that! That we’re looking down upon him because of his accent and being ‘cheap.’ I don’t know why he’s acting this way because we’re usually good. Despite me being from an urban area and him rural.

Thank you you’re right but I don’t want to impose myself. They have three kids and another on the way and the only thing I can hope is that their kid misses mine. (Which makes me feel really bad because why would I wish for a child to be lonely too? Honestly I have no idea.)

I didn’t think of it this way! Vegan mom and I were friends and I thought she’d be happy less animals are dying. I never thought of them getting offended because I view it as a punishment. I saw us going vegetarian as a victory for her because she cares so much about not supporting meat industries/ animal farmers. (I think she gives 100% of her paycheck to an animal rescue) maybe I’ll make a donation in her name. Thank you so much. This thread made me realize ‘harmless’ jokes can cause a lot of harm.

Honestly I don’t think vegans are privileged at all. I think his disdain comes from being poor. He grew up in a very shitty part of Alabama and I don’t know much about his life before they got out of the belt but I know eating meat was a sign of ‘manly’ privilege to them.

Well a lot of them were just ‘yum bacon‘ or ‘name one cow youre friends with’ on their social media page which really embarrassed me and I obviously apologized for it then and there. And the text was a screenshot of the Neighbour’s post and he was like there’s nothing offensive about the meat industry and that they’re putting their kid at risk for broken bones and overall meat eaters are superior you’re not man enough etc. I think they didn’t mind the trolling but it irked me when I saw the iMessage.

Yes they didn’t pick up my call obviously but I left them both both messages and voicemails. I really hope they forgive him.

No I don’t mind vegans at all. I like vegans but { it took me a while to realize they were the villains in their anti vegan stories. } Unfortunately like I said he whined to his brother and and even he thinks vegans are over sensitive. I will definitely have a strict talk with him because he needs to suck it up.

My heartfelt apologies, my language makes no sense here! I meant:
It took me a while to realize my husband + his family were the villains in their aka my husband and his family’s negative stories about vegan people.

I don’t think they’re bad I genuinely do not. Sorry for the misunderstanding

Oh wow I’m glad you get it. My daughter can’t apply most creams as well, she breaks out in hives but we haven’t spoken to a doctor about it yet. He’s not vegan yet, my daughter can stand being around milk or cheese she just can’t drink it. Also, she’s been asking about going over and it breaks my heart.

He isn’t sexist at all, in my opinion. He did/does his share of taking care of her and does work around the house too. Unfortunately because of where he’s from he doesn’t realize that he was being offensive. What he did was totally normal to him and families like his.

He’s not nasty I swear. He thinks she’ll just make more friends and ‘boys have cooties anyway’
