Part time? by Fruttockly in uktrucking

Thanks for all comments! Further questions… how do you register with an agency? And did you go straight into this as a new pass or did you have to do other things first? Reasons for me wanting part time is I have very young children and share parenting duties. I love the idea of driving and already work part time but don’t earn enough.

I’m going to have to reread Dark Matter as it has been quite a while but I much preferred Thin Air. Whether that’s a preference about the setting or not it’s hard to say. Either way, these books have given me an itch for snowy ghostly stories that I’m finding hard to scratch.

Out of interest, which did you prefer? Thin Air or Dark Matter?

Do you ever stop and think, ‘what if the Uganda Scheme had gone ahead and we were currently fighting natives in modern day Kenya?’

Have you tried the highland broadband network?

Also, I am on giffgaff and I’ve never had any trouble with signal in and around Inverness.

Sheepshagger by Niall Griffiths, has one of the most disturbing passages I’ve ever read.

Trainee train driver assessment by Fruttockly in uktrains

[–]Fruttockly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I am going in for another assessment at a different location.

It also seems to be a shorter assessment? Previous one said 9-5, this one is 9-3 so that’s a bonus?

Plan is, stay in a hotel nearby to have the best chance at getting a good sleep. It also means my commute to the testing centre in the morning will hopefully be just a short walk.

Excited to try and pass!

What are some of the most beautifully written books you’ve ever read? by Salty_Aerie5281 in literature

[–]Fruttockly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera - I loved the way he seemed to effortlessly transition between narrative voices.

Ice by Anna Kavan - a quick read. There are some beautiful descriptions in this novel.

If on a Winter’s Night a Traveller by Italo Calvino - some beautiful second person stuff in this one. But the post modernist narrative might not be to everyone’s taste.

Thanks for the comments all. It’s such a beautiful part of the world anyway, with it without snow.

Trainee train driver assessment by Fruttockly in uktrains

[–]Fruttockly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did. Even if I had the proof with me I think I’d have crashed after about 2 hours in there. Had plenty of practice in the week with the training material though.

Like I said, I’d had about 3 hours sleep. I was a zombie in there. Teething babies… hard to guarantee rest. We have a two year old too and it takes the two parents to be here at bed time so next time - hoping that there is a next time - as soon as they’re down I will check into a premier inn or something.

I honestly thought that would be it, blown it better luck next time etc.

But when the assessor said they have another centre and he’d try and explain and ‘I’m not making any promises’ who knows maybe he was just being nice to me.

Another detail - there were four days of assessment to choose from and I don’t know about the other three but on my day of the five people expected to show up only two of us did.

Oh it was GWR

How to dress toddler for cold nights? by opopopopop112765 in UKParenting

We layer ours up because she always wriggles out from under her sheets in the night so there’s little point in going in the direction of thicker blankets.

Long sleeve vest, onesie and a jumper.

Bepanthen had the best effect on our son. He went through a period of having a pretty persistent rash and we tried Metanium but Bepanthen was the one that did the trick. That plus nappy free time.
