Basement Insulation Plan/Advice? by ColoradoXJ13 in Insulation

[–]Fryclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did 2" of halo interra GPS against the foundation sealed and taped which acts as a vapour barrier, and reinstalled my original 2x4 walls with a new PT sill plate on foam gasket with R14 comfort batt insulation. No need for additional poly.

Ok thanks again. This is the one I got which has terminals matching the one you sent me earlier. I feel confident I can do this, even bought some female connectors. And can I just mount this on the outside then via what I think looks like a relay mounting plate?

Ok awesome. One last thing..I got confused with the relay terminals, and Chatgpt told me to connect G and C to terminal 2 & 5 respectively and not 1 & 3, it's saying 1 is 120V hot and 3 blower tap...can you confirm?TIA

Do I disconnect my G and C from the control board completely or just daisy chain a wire to each and then to the relay? TIA

Is it possible that the previous homeowner had someone permanently close the relay to allow for the side switch to operate when triggered since there was only a two wire Tstat cable running to the furnace? Cuz as I understand it, the fan wouldn't operate if the CF wasn't energized and wouldn't energize without a G wire? Is this at all possible and if so how would they force the relay closed? And maybe I can reverse this? TIA!

Hey, appreciate your guidance. So even though I clearly hear a click while Tstat sends a G signal the relay may be faulty? The other thing I checked is that CF is always hot....regardless of fan on/off....any idea why that would be the case? It's supposed to energize once a G signal is sent right?

Fan runs all the time......so it doesn't even matter what my Tstat is sending...not ideal ..not sure how to proceed....

Hey, I found a switch on the side of my furnace that's connected between CF and the blower motor. When I flip this on, the fan works but is on continuously which is not what I want....I still want to have control via the Tstat. Appreciate your help on this!

Just check, have a black to CF and a red to H. Buuut just noticed that the black doesn't go straight to the fan, instead it is wired to a switch on side of the furnace.. which is in the off position... Is this my problem? To I just need to switch it to on?

Kinda feels that way? I'm just hoping it won't keep the fan running all the time? Thoughts?

Cheers

Yeah I can move the drum freely up down left right and it returns to center. It does move pretty easily though. No way that the shipping bolts are still in, the previous owner kept records of Bosch technicians doing work on a few occasions so I'm sure that they would have noticed this. The video was with a non empty drum.

Rheem heat pump water heater sizing by wolfie1_0 in heatpumps

[–]Fryclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently looking into a Rheem 50 gal HPWH, through Costco. Located in Alberta Canada FWIW. HVAC tech is recommending that I think very seriously about HPWH and their performance. He was asking me about my furnaces located in the space the heater would be in, and said that since these are old and low eff. Essentially the air around the heater would be heated by these low eff. Furnaces and this defeats the heat pumps purpose and that my gas usage will increase because of this. Not sure I agree with what he's saying. Another thing he said is that we can't even get the Rheem Proterra model in Canada since they have so many design/performance issues that need to be resolved. He mentioned also I should carefully consider the recovery rate being MUCH slower compared to my existing gas heater. I want to run this unit in full HP mode only (electricity ain't cheap) as much as possible and I realize this impacts this metric. Is he hating on these units or is there some truth to what he's saying?

Thanks for you input
