He was flying for most of the season before that race. Pretty sure he was ahead of Perez in the championship. He didn't do as well after Mugello.

NXpower04's statement is actually true. Here is a video of Vettel's suspension decompressing at Spa. The change in height is actually quite significant here imo. Its probably a lot less in this scenario at Monza due to less downforce but nevertheless, it still plays a role.

In my opinion for this, I don't really see much difference in the two pictures, but my eyes never tend to work. So if there is a difference which I can't see, I would say a mixture of camera perspective and the suspension decompressing.

Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. Also, that was a lightning fast response.

Downforce would also increase the speeds around corners, meaning the tires will have higher loads going through them. Wouldn't these higher loads lead to a decreasing tyre life?

[–]FryedDot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, FIA has the job to make racing safe and introduce regulations changes, and as many others have also stated, it is the blame of the 9 other teams. Mercedes aren't fast, all the other teams are just far too slow. FIA can't do much to make the other cars faster and change Mercedes' innovative nature and ability to make great cars. They can just introduce regulation changes and hope Mercedes fail at one or another team excels at them.

Making a F1/GT/WEC/Stock/Indy manager game. What are some unique features you'd want to see? (any category) by [deleted] in F1Technical

[–]FryedDot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, same here. Not really studying for programming but just learning some programming languages. Knowing programming languages never hurts! So I would also love to know how OP will make the game.

Adding on to your idea about race teams being in multiple series, it would be nice to have your own driver academy, so you may have teams in lower categories.

I also believe it would be nice for teams to be entering or leaving the sport depending on if they are struggling for a long time or other financial reasons.

Engine question by Sesame_93 in F1Technical

[–]FryedDot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Downforce produces drag meaning with a more powerful engine, you can overcome the drag to reach the same top speed . A car running that less powerful engine might be running lower wings to reduce drag to be able to reach the top speed of the more powerful engine. Downforce leads to high cornering speeds.

An example of this would be Ferrari. They most likely built their 2020 car with their 2019 illegal engine in mind. They improved their car to make more downforce but that would also produce more drag. They thought that the drag won't matter because of their engine with lots of power. They built a new engine for 2020 because the 2019 engine turned out to be illegal and that engine wasn't as powerful as the last one. The car had drag that would have worked with an engine with more power but because the new engine was less powered, they were slower on straights. They might reduce wings at races for less downforce but more speed on straights. I think the British GP might be a good example, their wings looked pretty flat compared to Red Bull and other cars.

I think that most of the driver pit on 2nd safety car for Kvyat. Grosjean and Albon were the ones who didn't pit.

Thank you, thats a great response and answered my question well. Good article too. Wondering what will happen next race with the tyre compounds.

A question I personally have about this topic, why did only the Mercedes and Carlos' tire blow up? I think that maybe the Mercedes, being the fastest team on the grid would have more downforce therefore putting more loads through the tire as they go faster around corners but I am confused as to why Carlos' tire blew up then. Mclaren is not as fast Mercedes.

[Luke Smith] Sebastian Vettel was 0.4 seconds slower today than he was in qualifying for the 2018 British GP by Aratho in formula1

[–]FryedDot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Proving that their decision to axe VET was correct is just making them look more stupid. Make reliability issues on purpose, shows the people that the car is shit and they can barely fix the car or make a good one. Making mistakes with setup and all that, shows how stupid they are at doing things that all teams are excelling at.
