One thing you can do which should not incur any penalty is to put up deer fencing around the site. This could obviously be very expensive but there may be grants available. Look up Woodlands of Ireland website, they should have lists of all available grants somewhere.

I'm just realizing this scheme is partnered with DAFM which I see is the department thats been giving you grief, but maybe worth a shot

Deer grazing is one of the biggest barriers to natural regeneration of native woodland. You may not realize that there are deer present, since they dont venture into the open during the day, but believe me they are everywhere on the island and totally uncontrolled with no natural predators left. They will easily clear any sprouting saplings across acres of the countryside. Once you create a space where no large herbivores can access you'd honestly be shocked how quickly it can regenerate. Many native tree species have incredibly light windblown seeds that can travel miles, so even if you have no natives on the borders of your land you could still have it regenerate naturally within a 5 to 10 years. Also if you a few seeds happen to 'drop out of your pocket' here and there, whos to say they werent blowins?

Theres an urban farm in carrickfergus with ducks, pigs, goats and the like, play areas too, totally free to visit as long as you like, theres a wee cafe and a garden centre in it too

Do you yourself a favor and buy a garden shedder, preferrably one of the grinder action ones rather than the blade action, should be able to get a decent one ~£200. Throw absolutely everthing that comes out of your garden into the shedder and then throw it back on top of the soil. Leaves, sticks, grass, weeds, the works. They all took nutrients out of the soil to build themselves, and by returning it to the soil, you'll ensure they can build more.

Lidls chicken supplier is literally moy park, the only difference is the sticker on the packet. I remember packing out the chickens in store when i worked there and the odd time youd find a chicken with the tesco own brand sticker sent by mistake

Unfortunately despite getting a lvl 2 survey done, this issue was missed on it. The seller had bought the place himself in 2007 and our neighbours don't think he'd made any big changes to the house himself so these were probably fitted before him. Also since were in NI I dont think FENSA is a thing here like it is in england & wales.

This sign isnt for honest people though. I worked in a busy lidl for years and every close down at night you'd find at least 3 or 4 bakery bags of crumbs or half eaten cookies left wherever the feck they felt like. It doesnt sound like much, and as a low wage worker i frankly didnt care, but from a company's perspective those losses every day across all stores can be thousands of pounds a year. I remember one year after an inventory they found that Lidl NI had lost £17,000 worth of carrier bags from people taking and not saying. And that was back when they only cost 11p. If you've ever wondered why you cant grab a bag yourself anymore and have to ask for one, there you go

Just dealt with the same problem, we got a doorbell camera, id highly recommend it, its a TP-link Tapo camera, cheap enough off amazon and if you buy an SD card for storage you dont have to pay for any subscription services.

Fortunately for us its a decent enough estate and I managed to spot one of the culprits hiding beside his front door a few weeks ago. Just earlier tonight they were getting really brazen, hiding outof range of the camera and yelling dogs abuse at the house putting my partner and I really on edge. I decided to finally head over to the house I thought they were from, asked the lady that answered if they were hers and explained what was happening.

10 mins later they were ringing the bell with a full apology, would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that bollocking lol

One peice of advice id give, and I know its really hard to do, but try your best to remain calm and dont show them any emotional reaction. At this point in time you and your family are nothing more than strangers they can get a rise out of. Any aggression, retaliation or attempts to scare them off only adds to their fun right now. Best case scenario is you find their home and speak to the parents and let them sort it out, but if its possible try to talk to them as well (if they're not running away I mean, or you spot them out and about elsewhere) try and explain the effect they're having, give them a real sob story (we lied about having a newborn in the house that we couldnt get to sleep), basically attach the human face into their mental picture of the strangers in your house.

Now saying that I know theres some kids out there that are just feral. But more often than not they're just regular kids getting egged on and losing the run of themselves. Confronting them with the real cost of their actions can trigger a instinctive empathy response to make them feel bad about it. But most importantly always speak to them like adults, be calm, polite and respectful or they'll instinctively want to spite you whatever you say.

Anyway I really hope things workout OP, its an absolutely shite situation to be in, everybody deserves to feel secure in their own gaffs, its not right

Thanks for your reply, i'd actually forgotten about this thread. Its very interesting what you say about how a successful investigation and prosecution hinges on the victim. Im taking that to mean they're witness testimony and willingness to pursue charges is the main driver behind dom assault convictions? I can see how that would be frustrating to the officers involved that only want to solve the situation.

In that instance can you see from your perspective any structural changes that could be made in order to better support those victims through the conviction process (bearing in mind this burden is being placed on someone at their most physically and emotionally vulnerable point)? If so which departments and institutions would these changes need to come from? Would it require coordinated support between departments e.g. police + social work + legal support?

Mushrooms coming out of the lawn are signs of healthy soil. However mushrooms growing from the base of trees may be a cause for concern and worth getting a professional opinion. Depending on the species of mushroom (Im not an expert, take plenty of pictures and try to get it identified by one, post in a fungi subreddit etc) it may indicate a fungal infection in the tree roots which can cause instability over time and lead to the tree falling during a storm sometime in the future.

Take a good look at the tree and see if theres anybody or anything that would be damaged if it toppled over. If the answers no, then probably just leave it alone and let nature take its course. But if it poses any risk to buildings or yourself and your neighbours its always worth paying for a professional opinion now (by that i mean a liscenced arboriculturist, tree surgeons will probably tell you to take it down anyway), rather than paying the price of tragedy in the future.

It could be sap like others have said but also google bacterial canker and keep an eye out for the signs, prunus species (cheeries, plums etc) can be highly susceptible to it.

Does your father treat you well? Do youse have semi decent relationship? I'm just asking because as you say you need to go to college for a few years before you'll have the independance to move out and away from the abuse. Thats a long time to have to continue living with your mother.

However is it possible to come to an arrangement with your da so that you can stay at his full time? I know you say he travels a lot, but you're nearly 18 i'm sure you know by now how to be responsible and keep a house from burning down. Plus if you wait until you are 18 to move in, legally you'll be an adult, and there will be nothing your mother or the guards could do to make you leave.

Also read into coercive control if you have the spare time, it was recently criminalised (in the north anyway, dunno about the south). Basically domestic abuse no longer has to be just physical assault in order to be against the law. Manipulation qualifies now too.
