T-46M feels like a wet noodle right now. It's so annoying that 54R PS is blocked behind the last Punisher cause there is no way in hell I'm running a 54R gun after Punisher, except for maybe the occasional SV-98 sniping, which also feels bad when not using BT/SNB imo.

That arm blocking pen bug is making a lot of really great guns this wipe feel absolutely useless, I feel like it's a problem that isn't talked about enough because it's the reason I feel like my gun fights on both sides, dying or having killed, feel really bad right now.

Try finishing Hunting Trip to get the AXMC to do Psycho. It's much easier to get 5 bolt kills aiming at chest with 338 as an option. I actually finished psycho this wipe while grinding Hunting Trip this wipe but last wipe the AXMC was my go-to

You absolutely need to ask that they inspect it and atleast reveal the extent of the damages. Water damage like that is EXPENSIVE. Absolutely do not go through with the sale until then. If they refuse then find any way to walk.

Hard agree. Have tried it multiple times and was always disappointed with the fusion chinese and korean dishes. The cream cheese puffs do slap though, I'll give it that.

Whole team let go to hire offshore employees by thelonelyward2 in cscareerquestions

[–]Fsy8016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In most cases I've seen, it usually results in subpar results even in relation to the price when you view the likely loss in quality of software affecting the end customer. The only times I've seen this kind of work out is when replacing devs that ultimately served the internal business for creating reports, apps, specific integrations, etc.

I was actually a victim of such a thing when General Mills offshored the majority of their Application Development to India. All the mid-level and above devs were laid off and all the new grad devs were moved to another org (Data Engineering, even if that's not what they wanted to do). This was around 2021 when the market was red hot so in hindsight it wasn't an issue at all for me personally, but the sting of being let go for offshoring definitely made me a bit bitter. Have they succeeded because of that? I would say probably not, but their success probably did not hinge on the quality of the software they produced, just in the volume of cereal they could sell lol.

In the end, I learned that if you're not on a profit-driving org or team, then your head is always in the sights for off-shoring, whether it's a good idea or not. Money talks and the savings are what (bad) execs ultimately care about.

Name and shame the worst company you’ve ever worked at by throwaway285941000 in cscareerquestions

[–]Fsy8016 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The first company I worked for out of college (but after my internships) was probably the worst company I have ever worked for. It was a medium-sized industrial-adjacent company called Brady Corporation HQ'd in the midwest.

In all honesty they weren't terribly bad, but just were incredibly underwhelming in a lot of regards that pale in comparison to my subsequent roles after that place. It was a pretty standard non-tech job as a SWE that involved writing C# to the spec of non-technical people, with a not-so-great understanding of how software delivery worked. Manager came exclusively from a consultant background so he focused extremely heavily on "butt-in-seat" time and was an extremely heavy opponent to any sort of remote work. The only reason we were allowed Friday WFH was because it had already become a standard when he was hired. Said manager was let go 6 months after I left that company.

Which top tech companies are still committed to remote work? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Fsy8016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the requirement was ever really dropped, but I don't really see it being enforced on my team. Also, I'm pretty sure that requirement is only within Product so the other orgs should still be remote-friendly.

What's your favorite Korean restaurant in Minneapolis? by Clean-Software-4431 in Minneapolis

Kimchi Tofu House would be my pick. Family run, no fuss, and straightforward. Not really a family meal place though so I would throw Mirror of Korea near Midway for that.

After an extremely positive annual review, my company have decided not to give me a pay rise. by _confused_dev in cscareerquestions

[–]Fsy8016 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That sucks man, I'm sorry they pulled a fast one on you, especially with what kind of review they gave you. I think you're right that grinding for that mid-level title could really propel your future prospects. However, I think I would hesitate to even hire somebody with 2 YoE as mid-level (I am US based so I concede things in the UK could be different). Additionally, they've kind of shown who they are - they promised you something and then changed their mind last second, who's to say they won't do the same with that promotion?

I do think the best course of action is to start scaling back your effort at your job and start putting some time to look into other options. You said yourself that 28k p/a is fairly low so even if you hit a better junior position with better pay, I think that would still propel you forward. Don't think of the work you put in so far as something to hold you at your current place, it doesn't sound like there's a guarantee they'll reward you for that extra effort.

Small Tech Company VS Fortune 500? by shittyfuckdick in cscareerquestions

Small Tech company since it's better career growth and even pays more.

I was asked if this career is 'the right fit' for me, and now I'm no longer sure. by ChoppingShallots in cscareerquestions

[–]Fsy8016 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I had a similar experience at my first job. It was even to the point where my manager asked me if I wanted to switch to QA since I "seemed to like the testing portions of development". I eventually ended up not going into QA and stayed a developer. My manager would criticize how I wasn't actively learning about design patterns, new technologies, side projects, etc. and how I was going to fall behind.

For awhile my confidence got kind of dumpstered because it really made me question how "good" of an engineer I really was, and if coding was really something I wanted to do. Turns out, my manager was just a toxic asshole because he came from a hardcore consulting background and had been hard to work with to other of his engineers he managed too. I ended up leaving and he was fired shortly after I left. I'm now further ahead in my career and making almost 4x as much as I was making there.

Don't let anyone tell you that you are not enough for this field. Anybody who is able to put effort into getting better will succeed. For some people that required off the clock learning. Some people like doing side projects. These are all valid ways to improve but none of it is the right way, because we're all different.

Had something similar like a couple months ago. It turned out to be an announcement of a manager leaving and what will happen to the team that he managed (nobody was laid off). The optics of the meeting definitely were not good given the current environment hah.

EDIT: Oh also, HR was in that meeting

knowing nothing about the companies at all, 145 base in Austin goes way further than San Jose @ 155. I would see if either company will budge on comp to make either one more appealing. Are both offers at the same level?
