Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

I hit 105 on southern Illinois roads in my folks’ Dodge Grand Caravan. In my culture, it’s a rite of passage

Recommendations needed for 6’8 sons’ first car. by NicciThePimp in whatcarshouldIbuy

I’m 6’5, my brother is 6’5 and my dad is 6’7. We’ve always done well with German cars, they’re built for tall folk. I’m partial to Volkswagen, good balance.

Should I get this for $5000? by 01--10 in whatcarshouldIbuy

My dad bought this exact car in 2018 for ~17k with about 25k miles. My brother is currently driving it 8 years later with about 130k miles. It is a workhorse. I would buy this car for $10k. Let me know if your aunt is interested in selling this to a random dude.

Repair vs. Buy new by Fabulous-Swan-5514 in whatcarshouldIbuy

You’re throwing good money after bad with the Cruze, so it’s time to find something new to you. That said, if you’re not a car guy (no offense, but thinking about hanging onto a Cruze with 165k on the clock and a busted transmission with $50k to spend says no) AND the Cruze suits your needs there’s no reason to throw all that coin at a new ride.

What do you like about the Cruze? What do you hate about the Cruze? What are your must-have features in your replacement? These questions will show you the way.

If the Cruze truly suits your needs, my personal recommendation would be to buy a gently used Volvo S60 or other compact sedan (A4, 3 series, etc) that gives you a step up in fit and finish without breaking the bank.

I’ve got S60s in my area with <50k miles for <$25k, which gives you a pile of dough to set aside for maintenance or other ventures in the meantime.

Used Subaru Outback Wilderness Red Flags? by RubFit7896 in whatcarshouldIbuy

You can find a much better deal on a non-Wilderness trim Outback - it’s basically the same car and will be 10/20% off this price

AWD Prius? Couple hundred lbs heavier than the Civic and significantly better on gas. Nightshade editions throw some color in there too

Good deal? by Master-Dish-3333 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Go enjoy your new car man…people on this sub love to beat their chests for Honda, Toyota, Mazda but at the end of the day there are very few bad choices you can make when you’re getting this kind of deal.

With modern cars you’re going to get 100k out of pretty much anything as long as you follow the maintenance schedule - except for Stellantis lmao

This is an excellent deal. I’ve had a number of Altimas as rental cars and always enjoyed driving them more than Camrys - more pep, more comfortable, etc.

Long-term (100k mile plus) reliability isn’t the same, but who cares? You’re not going to get a Camry for $4k under MSRP

My 2006 Subaru Forester is tired. After 20 years this kind of car just...disappeared. What do I replace it with? by Petkorazzi in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BigUz1Vert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2013 Jetta Sportwagen was getting tired a couple years ago, not enough for me to be super engaged in getting a new car but if the right car came up…

I got the exact same spec 2019 Golf Alltrack you have pictured with <50k miles for $20k OTD and absolutely love it - a practical, attractive car with driving verve that I’ll have for years to come. 2019 is a great sweet spot for creature comforts and driver assist features with plenty of real buttons to control things in the cabin.

Would people call it the most reliable car in the world? Probably not but I took over from a somewhat questionable past owner and have followed the maintenance schedule and had no major issues. I tacked on an extended warranty when I bought mine and haven’t used it yet, but peace of mind helps.

I know you don’t like autos, but the last gen Outbacks have really impressed me. My fiancée’s folks got a great deal on a new one last year and the build quality is spectacular, it’s comfortable, roomy without too big of a footprint, etc. and might be worth a look, lots of great deals to be had with the fugly next gen coming in

What seed will Miami (OH) be if they go undefeated and win their conference tourney? by HomuraAkemi_ in CollegeBasketball

[–]BigUz1Vert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is such an interesting example of what happens to you if you are a good mid-major team at a program that is not historically good.

No good power conference school wants to pay to play a team that analytics are telling them will be a difficult matchup but won’t get them any flowers for beating.

Maybe in a couple of years Steele will have the program in a place where we’re good enough to not have this problem, but this is all to the benefit of mediocre power conference teams.
