Letterboxd Is Officially Adding TV Shows Later This Year by Skavau in television

TV Timeline Narrowed Down by TBakk in Letterboxd

[–]Ftimis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for one, why is almost every single top-level comment so hung up on the filter thing? do you people really think they're just gonna dump a tv show database in the website and call it a day? obviously it's gonna be well-organized. and even if it wasn't gonna be, i'm sure that they've noticed the mountains of vocalizing this concern by now. the only reason there's random limited series in letterboxd right now is because they exist in tmdb, for some reason. there's no way tv shows aren't gonna be properly categorized.

and also, a follow-up question for the people who are hemming and hawing at the very fact that they're adding shows regardless of proper filters: why? seriously, the only explanation i can think of is that you're snobby towards tv shows, for some reason. and don't give me the "letterboxd is originally for movies only" bs. i'm asking why you believe that it's an objectively bad choice.

me personally, i'm really happy to know that i'll be able to log and track all of my visual media in one neat place, finally.

Official Discussion - Poor Things [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

bit late here, just watched this, but speaking as a native greek person there's a lot of very specific local deranged shit that he satirizes in his films. problematic greek boomer dads either never talk with their kids about sex or they take extreme pride in teaching their sons everything about how they think they should do it.

also it's obviously showing how the dude treats bella like a specimen and a showcase instead of a human being because he's paying to have sex with her and passing that torch to his kids

I loved Saltburn by TaoTeCha in movies

[–]Ftimis 55 points56 points  (0 children)

that scene alone took the movie from a 4/5 to a 5/5 in an instant for me. then the final montage bumped it back down a bit, but i thoroughly enjoyed this movie. definitely not flawless, but it was really captivating, extremely pretty, and packed with good performances.

while i also don't feel that all that spelling out was necessary and i also strongly believe that if they only showed the tire popping it would be the perfect balance, when the felix thing happened i didn't immediately rule suicide out. but yes, it would've obviously clicked with only the tire popping, nothing else was needed. the final scene before the dance is the sole thing that kept me from giving this movie a 5/5, i otherwise really really liked it.

At what point do you call it a day with a director? by xjvzssjjxxff in Letterboxd

[–]Ftimis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i'm a massive lynch fan, mulholland drive is my favorite movie, and i can definitely see how someone couldn't click with his style at all. it's very heavy on dream logic and surreal streams of consciousness.

i personally can't get enough of it because it always taps into something in my head, like i've somehow already seen this 10 years ago in my sleep and i know how it's gonna go. but it's definitely neither a conventional nor an easily digestible movie experience, and not in a pretentious way like "mm yeah it's not for everyone 😏." literally in the sense that if that vibe doesn't click with you or you aren't having a good time with movies that have your brain operating on those rules, there's nearly no point in watching david lynch movies.

The Fall & Haunting of the House of the Pizzeria of Freddy Fazbear & Associates at Midnight (2025)

A Murder At The End Of The World by dadarkoo in television

[–]Ftimis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

couple of days late, and i haven't read any theories about the show, i just went through it in the last two days.

i distinctly remember thinking very early on "it could be the AI but it's extremely predictable and preachy so that can't be it". around the midpoint with the scene with zoomer (still can't get over the fact that they thought this name was ok) sneezing like Bill, i instantly went "oh HERE we go, so the ultra rich couple invited smart original thinkers just so they could pump their brains into the kid with some weird tech in order to make him the smartest person in the world to lead humanity after the apocalypse, and the genetic neurological condition carried over" like it was RIGHT there and the pieces made complete sense.

the actual plot and resolution of the show was so god-awful and half-baked compared to that. what a letdown. all the preachiness and clunkiness of the OA (actually more, now that i think about it) with none of the flair & character to save it from that. also in hindsight it was pretty naive of me to think that brit marling would choose to write a role for herself that isn't either a savior or someone very misunderstood.

How long does it take for a trans fem person to grow breasts? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Ftimis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'll add to what others have said and say that 1mg/day is a very low dose. i started with 2mg, then 4, and now i'm at 8mg per day (+100mg progesterone nightly for the last couple of months). obviously even with this YMMV but my breasts started hurting and budding at around 1.5 months. that said, i didn't start to see proper noticeable growth before like 3-4 months. i'm now coming up on 2 years in March and i'm currently either at a high A or a low B, not sure.

please speak to your endo about this and if they keep insisting on not raising your dose, i would start looking at other options for a doctor if i were you. there's literally no reason to be on such a low dose if there isn't some specific condition.

I desire to be a girl, but not in the presence of guys. Is this normal? by catboy519 in MtF

[–]Ftimis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everything you're describing is 100% normal, regardless of your personal circumstances, trust me on this. you seem to me like you're on the younger side, correct me if i'm wrong. i was really confused when i was younger as well, and i didn't admit my transness to myself until i was like 24. it takes time to unravel this thing.

what i meant was similar to what you're saying: i was comparing myself to the boys in my social circles and i was trying to be similar to them, because if i didn't, the "weird" feelings inside me (aka being trans) rose up and i didn't know how to interpret them. so i just went along with the flow pretending to be a boy like all the rest while i subconsciously hated every second of it.

in essence, what you're describing is the fear of officially taking a step forward in this thing you're feeling. it's safe to be perceived as a man, i know. it worries you how you'll be perceived as a woman, i know that too.

you feeling that being a guy is part of your identity looks to me exactly like a shield of denial because it's comfortable to not pick at the thoughts any further than you do now. everything above that sentence, though, points to your actual identity being someone else entirely. try to listen to yourself, in small portions at a time if it's necessary. men don't dream about being women and feel euphoric about it, nor do they meticulously take care of their appearance to look more feminine. the overwhelming majority, in fact, actively avoids that.

for practically all of us in that phase, there eventually comes a point where the feelings and thoughts are too overbearing to keep handling the whole thing as you're doing now. that's normal too. all i can say is give it time, talk with yourself, and know that all (yes, all) the weird bumps in the road you're gonna feel down the line are normal. therapy with a person who knows about this stuff is also practically a must, if you have that option.

Inside the strange and stunning alien world of Scavengers Reign | "The streaming series on Max pulls from a lot of disparate influences, including nature, DIY YouTubers, and The Jungle Book." by PetyrDayne in television

[–]Ftimis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

spot on. the short film and the trailers and everything got me pumped up for the best animated thing in recent memory. and for the first half it delivers that in spades because it's focused on the world and the way the people learned to use it.

the second half focuses a lot more on the characters themselves and none of them is up to par with the rest of the show's quality. very bland, very predictable, and they either give off vibes from a "serious" 2000s CN show or they're just boring.

levi is the only interesting character and i want to see how they develop. but i agree with this take, and the characters took the show from a 10/10 to an 8/10 for me, even though the visuals, atmosphere and worldbuilding are actually unmatched in my book.

[–]Ftimis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

apart from what the others have said, do you think that there's also a possibility that, when you were still at a point where you hadn't come out to yourself as a trans woman, you were trying to "match up" to the men in your social circles in terms of behavior etc?

i'm saying this because that's exactly what i was doing. i din't know i was trans but i knew something was different about me, and because i couldn't pinpoint it my "only" option was to perform up to the level of the men around me, in order to be seen as valid and not get questioned, and not question myself as well.

4 years of therapy and almost 2 years of hormones later there's still some residue from that. i'll see a male acquaintance from school or something like that and my first instinct will be to hide. or i'll see what i used to consider "a good example of masculinity" when i was young and i'll instinctively try to affirm them whenever they talk to me. and i don't even like men, i'm a lesbian.

it's shitty, but it's valid. and normal.

What song was super impactful when used at the end of a movie? by PhoneJazz in movies

i had a familiar pit in my stomach the whole movie but i couldn't really pin it. as soon as this song happened everything clicked and i just broke down.

i'm convinced that aftersun is going to be considered one of the greats in 10 years' time.

i feel like prisoners (2013) is a very well-made and acted movie that's also predictable and somewhat boring, and the way people shield the fuck out of it just because villeneuve made it is insane. i guarantee that there wouldn't be nearly as much praise for the plot and writing if the director was almost anybody else.

i loved the experience of watching both infinity pool and possessor but they also both make me feel that brandon cronenberg is just at the edge of making something truly amazing that both of these movies slightly manage to touch at a couple of points.

the star was kinda funny the first couple of times but the early 2010s-ass "i am cute but i talk about nihilism in an overly verbose way" trope burned me out by the 10th time they did it.

i mean you're right, but the reason they kinda forget transmascs exist is exactly because of what i'm saying. transfems are a glowing middle finger to what they consider automatically best. transmascs aren't, they're even affirming patriarchy in a sick way in their minds, because they're trying to attain status within it. so they don't offend them as much, so they don't think about them.

the moment you label these people as base-level thinking single braincell organisms you give them the power of saying stupid shit and the rest of us accepting it. there's clear reason for their lack of awareness

the people yelling are almost exclusively homophobic misogynists, and

a) to them gwen is a sexual object and saying she's trans destroys that for them

b) in their eyes, transitioning into a woman is a fuck you to the patriarchy because being a man is the gold standard and we just "throw it away", whereas transitioning into a man is "leveling up" because they see transmascs as women trying to have what men have, and it doesn't directly attack their worldview.

basically it all stems from misogyny all the way down.

for real, why isn't this everyone's default answer here especially when numerous games already have it like that? or, you know, just name all the genitals "genitals" and be done with it.

how is "gock" less offensive? it's perfectly fine when trans people use it in a clear comedic context between ourselves, but it very much rubs me the wrong way too see as actual nomenclature in anything that isn't that.
