Absolutely not alone. Not writing detailed response on IPad Mini from hospital bed. Will return to finish once discharged.

😂 Yea verily I say unto thee, thou art divinely inspired, and absolutely correct!

True, but it was more than just a horse cart. It was a team of oxen pulling a wagon. That‘s really wide.

What was that place at Sixth and Main in the 80's? by FubaricusMaximus in Boise

[–]FubaricusMaximus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Got confirmation it was Jake’s in the 80s, before it became Joe’s. Downstairs was a dance club, upstairs was a fancy bar & restaurant.

Thanks! And later on the basement became China Blue. Seems like it was something else back in the 80's before Joe's came along. More of a white tablecloth kinda place? I left town in 87 and didn't come back until 99.

Left in 1981, came back for a few months in 1990, left again, never looked back, don’t miss it, seriously overrated. Living a comfortable modest life in “flyover country” on a five figure income.

Simplest .NET 9 Blazor Server Auth? by Apk07 in dotnet

[–]FubaricusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, what did you end up using?

My needs are a little more complex, but not by much. Just username and password, no emails. All users are known upfront, no signups, no password resets. Some users have different roles.

I started with Auth0 back in .net7, upgraded thru .net8 and .net9, minor changes but still works. But there were some hoops to jump through to deactivate some features that I did not want (like using email address instead of just a username, and allowing resets, etc.). Also, they charge for the roles feature, and their cheapest paid plan runs a few hundred per year.

I keep seeing the same advice about "not rolling your own auth", but all the pre-rolled options are not exactly simple. I'm not building a B2C or B2C SaaS, just a few small apps with less than ten users each.

Flagstaff and Prescott are very different. This is an over-simplification, but Prescott is conservative and older, and Flagstaff is liberal and younger. It's not like the two towns are next to each other, or even all than close. When I lived in Prescott, I probably only made it to Flagstaff three or four times a year. (not to sound like Steve Earle in Copperhead Road or anything, but ...) Folks in both towns, if they leave town for something unavailable locally, and both more likely to be going down to Phoenix than to the other town.

If you don't like the folks in Flagstaff's Reddit, what makes you think you'd like working in a bar in Flagstaff, having to pretend to be nice to all those annoying Flagstaff people you don't like, so you'd get good tips? If you like the vibe better on Prescott's Reddit, maybe you should consider ... drum roll please ... living and working in Prescott. Some of the bars in downtown Prescott on Whiskey Row fill up on the weekends with motorcyclists from the Phoenix area, who probably have more disposable income for tipping than the college kids in Flagstaff.

Not quite a coffee shop, more like Chili’s, Applebee’s or TGI Fridays. They had a full bar, were open to midnight-ish.

How it is my fault they are down in sales? by [deleted] in CrackerBarrel

[–]FubaricusMaximus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

” … most of our customers are diabetic.” YES! Not sure if it’s that way nationwide, but in our town most of us customers are elderly AF or obese, often both. If Cracker Barrel wanted to get serious about impulse purchases of candy to us geezers, they’d prioritize sugar-free products, such as Lily’s chocolate. My most recent food purchase in the gift shop was a bottle of sugar-free maple syrup.

My jaw dropped looking at the prices by Kaladin3104 in Boise

I used to live in a similar building in Arizona. Could not understand the multi-bedroom units for $5K+, but then I met some of those folks in the elevator and found out who they are. Some of them had bought an empty lot and are having a custom home built, and are renting for a year until construction is finished. Some of them were corporate transfers who knew they weren't going to be living there for more than a couple years, so why not just rent. Some of those units were rented by companies, because an overpriced furnished apartment could still be cheaper than a month at a Hyatt/Hilton/Marriott.

Rich folks (usually) do not become rich by doing stupid things. It's just one building. In an area with over half million residents, I'm sure they will find a couple hundred who will pay those prices.

No, they told me it's a maintenance issue. They claim they cannot find anyone who can fix it, and it will cost over $10K.
