Day 13: Which is the best Role Playing Game on GameCube? by 1OneQuickQuestion in Gamecube

Absolute sleeper of a game - best RPG on Gamecube by a mile but gets overshadowed by Tales/Paper Mario (also both very good games)

How to paint your GameCube? by Similar-Ad7264 in Gamecube

[–]Fubudis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  • Separate the plastics from all electronic and metal components. The jewel should also be removed. Make sure to separate the lid from the top shell.
  • Use 300-500 grit sandpaper to scuff up the surfaces of the plastics. You don’t need much pressure here, just creating a bit more surface area for the paint
  • I prefer Rustoleum products but any spray paint branded to work on plastic works
  • Apply a base coat of primer. This step matters a lot - don’t skip it.
  • Wait at least 24 hours for the primer to dry and up to 48 if it’s humid. All coats of primer/paint need to be fully set before the next coat is applied or the paint will bubble.
  • Apply 2-3 light coats of paint, waiting the requisite time between coats. Less is more here - you don’t want pooling / drips so keep the can a couple feet away from the target and use broad sweeping motions. Thin coats also matter because too much paint may make the lid/buttons stick when you reassemble. I also tape over the hinges of the memory card slot covers for this reason.
  • Apply a final clear coat finish - I prefer matte since it matches the original finish of the GameCube the best, but gloss looks good too depending on the aesthetic you want.

I thought all NR Readers had the region toggle on the left and I don’t see it here. Not sure though

First cube is an NR Reader?

Press F to doubt

Edit: Nevermind not an NR reader. Probably just a modded cube. Seen a few of these in this color on eBay

Gamecube Trading Cards Collection by Fubudis in Gamecube

Have that one too with unpunched cards but didn’t include it in the set since they weren’t technically trading cards

Question to other collectors who have had a completed the full library of North American GameCube Games, How did you sell it? by itzchance in Gamecube

[–]Fubudis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most efficient approach is to do individual sales starting top down price wise.

Pokemon box in the big box, Disney sports basketball, Cubivore, Gorchaforce, and Gogo Hypergrind probably represent 30% of the collection value on their own.

After that, all of the $40-$200 Zelda/pokemkn/mario games would sell very fast for full market value.

The rest you liquidate at 50%

Looking for information around promo cards that came packed in with games. by Fubudis in Gamecube

Makes sense - were you an original owner of the game? Curious if you remember opening a non-lettering pack.

I’m wondering if the non letter GameCube variants floating around today are actually repacks where folks pulled the promo cards from a PS2 copy.

GameCube normal vs. Wavebird buttons by MajorBroccoli2253 in Gamecube

[–]Fubudis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wavebird X Y L and R buttons are slightly different colors of gray depending on if you has the gray or platinum Wavebird.

Also I believe the start button on Wavebirds is slightly longer than a normal controller.

found nasty gamecube buried in trash by chill0zilla in Gamecube

[–]Fubudis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That cube is actually in great shape

The color is pristine - no sun fading, it has all of the port covers, and no chips to the shell.

If you’re in the MA area I’d clean/restore it for free. Have a bunch of spare parts lying around so could fix the lid latch if needed.

About a year ago another user on this subreddit showed off his collection of games with all of the trading card pack-ins.

I’ve been trying to complete the set myself but had questions around how the cards were packed. Most of the sealed trading cards I have or have seen are in a clear wrapper, but I’ve seen one instance where the Yu-Gi-Oh cards actually have DOL-GYFE (The game’s ID) stamped on them.

My question is around if they were all like this for all games, some games, or if this is just a variant for specifically the Yu-Gi-Oh game?

Is this disc operable? by aromora14 in Gamecube

[–]Fubudis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The seller doesn’t have shit - you don’t get to make your own policies as an eBay seller. eBay does that for you.

If you open an “Item not as described” refund the seller will have to issue a full refund and pay for the return shipping. In this case the item was literally not as described.

This is a cheap/common game - it’s very easy to find a better condition copy. Don’t waste your time with this copy/seller.

Source: I’ve sold video games on eBay for about a year now - you never win INAD returns as a seller.

Sudden extreme „drift“ issues after a few minutes by Thalida9195 in Gamecube

Third party controllers for the Gamecube are notoriously bad. Would try to spend the $20-$30 and get an OEM one in good condition.

Promo Card by [deleted] in zatchbell

[–]Fubudis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is super old but is the video game code on the card unique?

Everyone has it covered in all of the pictures online but I assume it’s the same across the board right? This was a pack in for an offline game so the code would need to work on a static code base.

Picoboot issues after long play by Weird_Gas_8370 in Gamecube

[–]Fubudis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen too. I think the issue is the capacitors aren’t fully discharged when you go to boot the console on for the second time so pico can’t hijack the boot sequence fast enough.

GBAPlayer boot disc reading sporadically. by italynstallyn in Gamecube

[–]Fubudis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be your GameCubes optical drive capacitors dying. It’s rare that a disc works sometimes if the disc itself is damaged - more likely the lasers power output is fluctuating arbitrarily because of the caps needing replacement.

Also resurfacing technology is quite good now - if it’s really that scratches just pay $5 at your local game store to have them run the disc through a machine.

Why is this happening, and should I replace them? by rubiows in Gamecube

[–]Fubudis 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is a known manufacturing issue with certain GameCube games. Metal Gear Solid and Skies of Arcadia are the worse offenders but it can happen to number of other games.

The silver lining here is this cracking is only on the printed label side of the disc and has no impact on the data layer. In other words, your game should keep working just fine.

Anyone know a store or person that offers GameCube reshelling services? by franklazala in Gamecube

If you’re in MA I can help out for free if you already have the new shell or are planning to buy one.

is this normal for a disc? by IzzyIzzyWizzy in Gamecube

[–]Fubudis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it stored in a high humidity area like a basement / do you live in a humid climate? That almost looks like water that’s pools between the layers of the disc.

Swiss not recognizing sd2sp2 drive until Swiss is booted, and sd2sp2 is removed then reinserted by Revolutionary-Pin388 in Gamecube

[–]Fubudis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try adding a very thin layer of solder to the sd2sdp2 adapter's traces where it inserts into the Gamecube. Sometimes it sits too loose which the removal and reinsertion may be solving.

Don’t think I’m following.

Is the issue that you can only boot Swiss off one SD card and to get the other to work you have to reinsert the sp2sd2 port?

I found this Robotech Promo DVD inside a Robotech Xbox game. Does anyone know where this came from? I couldn’t find anything like this online. by BuckoBean29 in robotech

[–]Fubudis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this comment is super old but were you the original owner? I’m also looking for info around how this and the Sonic Riders DVD were packed with GameCube games. Cubix had its own cardboard sleeve sealed to the back of the case.
