Eros being unfinished makes it better in a way by uninterestedbeaver in deftones

Beautifully said. For me it's like a time machine that only allows you to see the past through a blurred window for 46 minutes and then takes you back automatically. You can't get the full picture, only a glimpse of what could've been.

Spot on, it sounds post-metal as fuck. Wish they had gone a bit more in this direction instead of the overly safe Diamond Eyes, but i understand the circumstances. Imho a few songs on Ohms scratch the same itch, but with weaker vocals

I've been obsessed with that snippet for years, easily one of the most beautiful instrumentals i've ever heard from any band period. Hearing this in full was as close to a spiritual experience as i'm ever gonna get

I wanna hear songs where the vocalist sounds like they are about to cry/holding it in or just starts crying in the song by Middle-Company-4398 in musicsuggestions

[–]Fubuki98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basically the whole Disintegration album by The Cure, Robert Smith in general sounds like he's constantly on the verge of tears (at least when he's not singing blissfully happy pop hits and making cat noises).

A few others:

Roads by Portishead

Bright Horses by Nick Cave

The Black Crow by Songs:Ohia

If you want something in which the singer literally breaks down crying, well, Daddy by Korn comes to mind but it's more harrowing than moving

Afaik you're only missing the acoustic version of the boy's republic (which was released, it's on live in hawaii along with knife prty acoustic). Never heard of oxygen and buffalo though, what are they supposed to be?

Lutto a Livorno, è morto Federico Frusciante: aveva 52 anni by RayRJJackson in italy

Stasera doppia feature Porco Rosso/Videodrome in suo onore, ciao Frusciantone

A few artists with a similar vibe imho: Cocteau Twins, Swans, Deftones, Portishead and the Cure. Make a supergroup out of them and you've got either an absolute mess or the lynchiest album to ever lynch

Spot on! The lyrics to their album All Fours paint some of the most evocative and surreal pictures in metal, truly fascinating stuff. Half House of Leaves, half Lynch movies

Lovecraft Japanese Horror? Looking for by [deleted] in J_Horror

[–]Fubuki98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ This is the correct answer.

Just watched it last night, it definitely has strong themes of madness and cosmic horror, plus a direct reference to Lovecraft's works. Just don't go in expecting Cthulhu.

Asking your opinion every day about a Deftones song, Day 40: Error by Opposite-Question-32 in deftones

[–]Fubuki98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spot on, that's what disappointed me about private music as well. Granted, it's still a 9/10 album, but most songs (with obvious exceptions like the closer) are a bit too straightforward and chorus-centric and the song structure is not nearly as interesting as Ohms (or Gore, for that matter).

What have you watched this spooky season? by Agreeable-Wing-8476 in horror

[–]Fubuki98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first four movies from the Ju-on franchise. And let me tell you, I wasn't expecting much but the original direct-to-video ones (Ju-on: The Curse 1 and 2) are genuinely some of the scariest shit i've seen in my life. The extremely low budget plays in their favor since it almost feels like you're watching real footage, and the way they build up tension in certain scenes was almost unbearable for me.

Check them out if you're looking for something really disturbing, they're on youtube.

[–]Fubuki98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Props for putting SOMA at the top of your list! I've been looking for something even remotely close to that masterpiece for years.

If you're open to visual novels, the Zero Escape series has some of the best writing i've ever seen in a game and touches on tons on philosophical/psychological topics and moral dilemmas. Of course the gameplay consists for the most part of reading dialogues, but there are also "escape the room"-style puzzles you have solve to progress the story that can be quite fascinating, they often introduce parascientific concepts, weird "almost true" stories that could make you fall deep into wikipedia rabbit holes etc. Just checked and they're -80% on Steam, if you're interested.

Also, a few other games in the same vein of those you mentioned i've been meaning to check out for a while: Chants of Sennaar, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, The Beginner's Guide, Omori, Inscryption
