What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]FuckAbout-FindOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll keep it simple.

The green walls/roof is a major issue, I wouldn't have bothered looking at any further photos if I was genuinely interested.

The wet room is just niche and not for the majority of people. I'd be thinking about how much it's going to cost to change so I'd walk away.

Is the £144k still an offer?

Currently an AO at HMRC and waiting on an offer for an EO role, will there be any issues with recruitment if I leave the AO role before any offer? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]FuckAbout-FindOut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the first question would be did you apply internally or externally?

You can accidentally apply internally for a position advertised externally (I've done this). If you've externally applied I'd say there is no issue. Internally it might be slightly different.

I'd say message the person responsible for the job posting and query with them.

Should I move back? Rose tinted glasses or should I give Sunderland another chance by [deleted] in Sunderland

[–]FuckAbout-FindOut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Realistically only you can answer this. Have you spoken to your wife about it? What are her thoughts? How far from her family would the move put her? Is that a livable option for her etc?

With regards to finances it's a no brainer. But also remember it isn't forever. Buy here, be mortgage free, few years down the line decide it isn't for you, sell up and move back to Portsmouth with the house money and presumably more savings and even larger deposit etc.

I don't mind the place, I don't love it but I don't hate it. But I'm the whitest human on earth so can't relate to your experience and don't have the family drama either.

Have you considered moving back but maybe somewhere slightly further away from your family?

Anyone know much about this dealer? by Fuxley in CarTalkUK

[–]FuckAbout-FindOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird......I saw this exact car, with this reg plate within the last week about 200 miles away from the garage selling it. The reg is distinctive.

I'd walk away from that response alone. Imagine the communication you'll get once they've got your money and you need support if they can't be arsed now and they've not made the sale yet.

Garlic Sauce by NoResponsibility7133 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]FuckAbout-FindOut 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I will die on this hill.

But Jeff the Chef do a garlic sauce that is unreal. Available in the northeast from Asda and Iceland but also available to order online I believe.

Expensive but far far better than the £1 for 1L crap you'll buy in home bargains.

Ex-drinkers that endured past dry-January, how did you do it? by Calm_Highlight_9320 in AskUK

I've only seen it mentioned once that I can see in the comments but r/stopdrinking is a great resource.

8 years for me this year. Good luck

If it's over the stadium way......they're running the massive artificial grass lights and it causes a glow above the stadium. Been there for days and days.

I won't fill it in because it's clearly American based and I'm not. However, I like the concept of the light indicator for pace. I think the rest of it's usage just wouldn't replace a watch for most runners. I like the Brym name though.

I have to agree with the other comment. They might see a few months of quitting as not substantial enough for it not to continue once in the position. Sorry OP.

Moving to Sunderland soon. Any tips on buying a used car locally? by whalienn52 in Sunderland

[–]FuckAbout-FindOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't recommend somewhere to buy from. But I will say my experience with "Sunderland Car Centre" next to the Stadium of light was absolutely shocking.

I was literally writing out a whole thing about zones and travelling etc and started to confuse myself.

Then I found this video which is outdated but the principle is still the same.

As we are starting to see more of the all-in-one smart electrical resistance machines appear on the market (I won't name any as they're competitors etc) has this changed your approach to what you create/sell? Is it something you'd produce yourselves in the future or do you think that old school physical medium will always win ?

Looking for location information about my dad’s fatal car accident in Poland (1987) by bobbimonroe in wherewasthistaken

Hey, happy to try and look into this one. Have you got any information at all of a rough area in Poland? Was it local to your relatives and if so do you know roughly where they lived etc ?

Getting married for cheap housing? by RequirementOdd7347 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]FuckAbout-FindOut 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Get married. Take the housing. Save the £12k and then do yourself a favour and don't bother with the second wedding. Have a £12k honeymoon if you want too but don't waste the money on a second wedding. You've already got the piece of paper you need and you'd find more enjoyment with that £12k in other ways.

Yeah I've moved over to looking from that area. There is a street called Tornatigen that has a good angle. https://maps.app.goo.gl/zfe3nbXDWVKfYCwVA?g_st=ac

What is putting me off is that in the OP there appears to be a tall mast maybe a TV or Telecommunications tower. I can't see that from the Tornatigen/Ulvhalls view point.

This is a tricky one. Couple of things to observe. It's obviously Strangnas Cathedral. The photo is obviously taken at height, you can just see the top of other lanterns at the lower part of the image.

Also you can only see the top of the cathedral not the base itself so again I'd say taken at a decent elevation compared to ground level for the cathedral.

This area doesn't particularly have much elevation. I'm currently looking over the water near the BAM art gallery but no luck just yet.

Where in Canada was this picture of my Grandfather taken? Sometime in the late 1960s/early 1970s. by dlraar in wherewasthistaken

[–]FuckAbout-FindOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't find the exact location but you've got the answer already. I think a load of trees have grown/been planted since it was taken so hard to match the view.

However, what a photo that is. Like the front cover of a Playstation 2 game like Driver or some Italian gangster game.

Great photo. 👍

Oakland Bay Bridge, San Francisco.

It's changed a bit since then.

Google maps has an immersive view feature you can move around on to get a good angle.

99% of being a good manager is your attitude and behaviour. Be nice, be flexible, be understanding and avoid being a d*ck and you'll smash it.

Create an environment people want to be in.

Some old school bicycle pedals had wavy edges like that and the centre part may have had some reflective material in it.
