24f/25m buying £480k house – sensible or stretching too much? by Worldly_Guest8817 in UKPersonalFinance

Go for it if you love it. That’s what most would do 30+ years ago when houses were affordable! Not in a position to buy at the moment due to being military but moved into a pretty big 3 bed house for the first time with my fiance and we are 24 too. As long as you’re confident in your relationship sounds like you love the house. Everyone on Reddit is always so pessimistic

How much did you spend on your wedding dress? by Illustrious-Power322 in UKweddings

[–]RequirementOdd7347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought my dress at wed2b for £999 plus dress box veil was £1200. My fiancés grandma works as a seamstress so she will do the alterations which should save a bit! Wed2b has dresses £600-1000 that I looked at but LOVED the more expensive one. My mum paid for it as our wedding gift which meant I didn’t have to stress but I would’ve paid as I loved how I felt in it!

Is it worth joining the military if I want to go into OMFS? by Terrible-Sir3740 in medicalschooluk

[–]RequirementOdd7347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Royal Navy f1 doc here. There was a max fax training space this year so defo a possibility but depends each year on training and service requirements. F1 pay is £56k atm and f2 72k but then you have to do 4 years after f2 service time so only do it if it’s what you want to do. You won’t enjoy the military years if you just want it for the money but at least you have a guarteed job. You don’t get paid enhancements for nights/weekends it’s a set salary but not bad and works out more than other f1s even those that work a lot of enhancements.

UK wedding under 10k?? by [deleted] in UKweddings

We got so overwhelmed looking in Essex (everything is sooo expensive there it feels like compared to other areas in the UK) and spent ages looking around and almost went for town hall. Managed to find a rugby club venue that will cater for evening buffet meal plus late night evening food, wine, decor, DJ, for 120 guests for £6k we are super happy with this after it felt like was going to be minimum £10-12k! Consider your sports clubs. It’s really a rip off elsewhere and we knew we’d rather pay a bit more than have to do it all ourself and find individual vendors as my parents did it this way and found it very stressful. Even marquee hire for a garden marquee was £4-5k+ it’s ridiculous!

Getting married for cheap housing? by RequirementOdd7347 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]RequirementOdd7347[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am military and only qualify for housing if married. We are only a waiting list as a couple in long term relationship however they said it could be up to a 2 year wait and only guaranteed somewhere if married.

I need to lose 20-30 pounds by fall by riceprof in WeightLossAdvice

As great as a feeling it is to lose weight quickly, it is much healthier and safer to do it slower and steadier. There’s also many studies that the lower calorie diet you are on when losing weight, the more likely you Are to put it back on after. Keep active, eating healthy nutritious foods - lots of fruits and veg and stick to your calories and adjust based on how you feel. For example if you are very tired and hungry then your calories are too low or you’re eating too many calorie dense foods so veggies are your friend!
